The Red Arrows fly over Portsmouth to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy
I don't think this is captured well in video?
This is what the Red Arrow 'smoke' drew in the sky :)

D-Day 75: A Tribute to Heroes
75 years ago the Allied Forces were making their final preparations for the invasion of Normandy. Known as D-Day, the mission would prove a decisive turning point in the Second World War. Live from Southsea Common in Portsmouth, Huw Edwards introduces full uninterrupted coverage of the National Commemorative Event taking place to mark the 75th anniversary.

 Full coverage - 1:29 mins

I love the Red Arrows. I was at a festival a few years ago and they did a transit fly past in formation, it was amazing! A tannoy came out saying "look up to the sky" and we were so confused, and then this almighty roar and they were gone in seconds...You can actually request a flypast for public events and if they're in your region they might just say yes!

Thankfully at least HIS President was there paying his respects:rolleyes:

"A 97-year-old US D-Day veteran has parachuted over Normandy again today – in a stunning recreation of the legendary invasion 75 years ago.

Tom Rice, of San Diego, joined other jumpers to commemorate the World War II operation as thousands watched them softly floating through the bright skies."

I was sitting out on a balcony at a hotel in Montreal when The Snowbirds were doing flyovers. Total surprise. And wow, what a show!

Trivia fact - the Queen is the only female member of the royal family to have served in the armed forces.

Household Cavalry
Blues and Royals
(Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons)
Colonel of the Regiment

"Princess Anne rides horseback during Trooping the Colour, as opposed to arriving in a carriage like some of the other members of her family, is because she's a royal colonel, and more specifically she is a colonel of the Household Division, the Queen's guards who are on display at Trooping the Colour"

;) Ceremonial title I know but she is officially a serving member of the regiment.
A Colonel of the Regiment is expected to work closely with a regiment and its regimental association.
The chief purpose of a colonel-in-chief is to maintain a direct link between a given regiment and the British Royal Family.

:D SNOWBIRDS - I'd guessed who you meant but had no idea they were called that!

She is only a serving officer on paper, she has never actually served, although like her mother she would be definitely capable of it if the country was at war. She's a tough cookie Princess Anne.

The One Request Prince Harry Makes at Every Hotel He Stays In
Prince Harry is a rather low-key royal when it comes to travel.
For those unable to watch the video, environmentalist Harry wishes hotels would stop using plastic.

We can wish! So often a product that serves a useful purpose in certain settings becomes unnecessarily ubiquitous. There are so many products that are “protected” in plastic (and practically impossible to open, I might add). At least our town has banned the use of plastic bags at grocery stores and such, as well as styrofoam containers. But it doesn’t make a dent.

His pal Argentine polo star Nacho Figueras mentioned that in an article about the recent charity match they played.

Prince Harry's DEMANDING request to hotel staff before polo game – 'Can we NOT do this?'

"Prince Harry made an environmental plea to a hotel he was staying at the night before his polo game, revealed his close friend. Nacho Figueras claimed Prince Harry asked the hotel to not use plastic after he was given a plastic coffee stirrer and received his shirt in a large plastic bag."

This plastic styrofoam changeover will take a little time. Like when recycling first happened. I remember New England states were way ahead of everyone else.

It took a couple of years but I now remember to always bring my reusable grocery bags with me. It’s finally second nature. This is what people did before plastic bags.

My fathers retirement village has converted to biodegradable food containers and straws! Very encouraging.

I totally agree about items so encased in plastic you need the jaws of life to open them!!

I’m thinking really, why do simple items need to be packaged this way.

Good for Prince Harry for requesting hotels switch to biodegradable. What a sweetheart. I would be like, oh of course, your wish is my command! Sir.

Oh...Most Definitely!
I just wanted to post that pic of her :D
She seems to get overlooked way to much!

Trump joke gets Queen giggling at 75th D-Day anniversary

Trump and the Queen seem to be getting along just fine.

The pair were seen laughing and smiling during the commemorations marking the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

I thought I was the only one who is close to tears when trying to open plastic packaging  I attribute it to getting older and lacking the strength to do things that used to be relatively easy.

Trump joke gets Queen giggling at 75th D-Day anniversary

"...But the stars of the show were the elderly D-Day veterans who said they were surprised by all the attention.

The Royal British Legion has brought about 300 veterans, aged 91 to 101, to the ceremonies in Portsmouth, where many of the troops embarked for Normandy on June 5, 1944.

SEI_72341447.jpg

After a flyover by the Royal Air Force and a salute from the Royal Navy, **the veterans will return to the landing beaches overnight, just as they did 75 years ago**."

**What does that mean?

Why is Trump's hair so bizarre, is it a wig or weave or something? It's like three different colours and lengths and I don't understand why he styles it like that, all sweepy and flicky and forwardy.

Glad the visit is over, I wonder who's coming to see the Queen next.
