...It is a lovely film it was a nice escape from reality for a couple of hours. Maggie Smith is wonderful in it. Hopefully the movie will be out on dvd before Christmas so I can buy it for my Dad...

Barnes & Noble has the movie soundtrack that is a current best-seller. I plan to stop there next week when I'm in the area and purchase it. The music is magnificent - probably one of the best soundtracks ever!

DH and I saw Downton Abbey on Wednesday. Loved the clothes, shoes, hats, and mostly the women's short hairstyles. Perhaps the film will encourage women to doff the hair extensions and opt for shorter hair. I'm due for a haircut and plan to have my stylist take off more than the usual 1/2" for a jaw-length bob Sets, scenery, music in the movie are enchanting. Enjoyed the subtle sarcasm and humor. Maggie Smith is a gem!

When the TV series was featured on PBS' Masterpiece Theatre, we only watched a handful of episodes over the years and never really got into it. I noticed in the PBS fall schedule that Downton Abbey will be featured on Sundays, but local library has entire DVD series for free rental. We will binge watch the series in its entirety over the next few weeks. Hoping that the new film will be featured on our January cruise. I definitely want to see it again. Don't miss it!

We re-started the series in August, watching one or two episodes each evening in preparation for the movie!

Loved every minute of the movie, and love the loose ends left available for another.

The tiaras were lovely, brought from museums & other collections, and from different eras to match the wearers.

The Duke of Sussex has met a landmine victim who famously brought Diana to tears 22 years ago during trip to Angola - as she revealed she named a daughter after the princess.

Sandra Thijika, who was pictured sitting on Diana's knee, described the experience of meeting the royal as making her feel 'complete'.

And when she met Prince Harry she described the encounter as a continuation of a long and beautiful story.

Harry ended his visit to Angola by meeting Ms Thijika, 38, a landmine victim who was famously pictured with his mother sitting under a fig tree in an orthopaedic workshop in Luanda in 1997.

The princess had not only walked through a partially cleared minefield in Angola to raise awareness about the issue of the weapons, but spent time with people maimed by the munitions laid during a bloody civil war.

If anyone who likes Downton hasn't seen Gosford park, I highly recommend it. Its written by Julian Fellowes who created and wrote most of Downton and has the same vibe

I love a good period drama, fave non Austen ones are North and South, Poldark and Call the Midwife although none of those have the glamour of Downton but the recent BBC War and Peace is perfect if you're looking for glamour

I saw the movie last Friday and as usual cried when it ended. I could watch them in the series for another 6 years if they would only cooperate and do as I want. I adore Maggie Smith!! I want to be her when I grow up.

I am looking forward to Mr. Fellow’s new show The Gilded Age which will star Ms. Christine Baranski about New York in the 1880s. It is a HBO show I hope it will come to the U.K.

OT: Downton Abbey/fashion-related.

Last night concluded the month-long Friday night football movies on TCM. DH and I watched Good News starring June Allyson and Peter Lawford. The movie-musical was released in 1947 and is set on a small college campus in 1927 - the same year as the Downton Abbey movie. Both films are set during the Roaring Twenties, yet the clothing styles are very different. If you haven't seen Good News, please take the time to watch the short trailer to see the fashions featured in the film. I much prefer the understated elegance of the costumes featured in Downton Abbey.

In 1885, Queen Victoria gave the tiara and parure to her youngest daughter, Princess Beatrice, when she married Prince Henry of Battenberg.
