I just can’t celebrate a woman who is as hypocritical as she seems. And, yes, I realize what she seems is in some part influenced by press coverage. But the fact that she about that is in itself hypocritical. She chose a career that depends on getting your face and name out in front of the world. It has nothing to do with a contest between the two duchesses.

With regards to the career, do you mean acting? Because to me, wanting to act does not go hand in hand with wanting all your smalls aired in public by long lens paps. JMO

Yes, I do mean acting. [did she have some other career I’m unaware of?). And I’m sorry but I disagree with you. You might not want it but you’ll get it if you’re more than a 40 year old nightime soap star. And if you want to be big time social media pretense you are going to have to have it or who will know you.

I think bias connotes an unfair bias based on feelings rather than objective facts. My "bias" is based on their respective actions from which I've determined that I strongly prefer one to the other, so not really biased. That would be like saying someone is "biased" against people who lie constantly v. people who don't. Not saying Markle is a liar (although she may well be), but just using that as an illustrative example of justified v. unjustified bias.

She was v much Kate Middleton here in the UK. But ofc neither of them have those surnames now legally anyway, so I guess it is kind of moot

IMO it's a rather sweeping statement to say that all actors want to be in the public eye to the point where their life is no longer secure or private. Again, JMO.

!!! I wouldn't be happy either. As a non working Royal, he can pay for his own security if he wants it. Born into it is not an excuse- the rest of the grandchildren have none or family pays for it. One benefit of being a working royal is security- and they're expected to live there.

I respect your opinion, but I think bias is bias. It is irrelevant to me if it's considered unfair or not. But I know that anything put forward from a biased opinion is always going to go against the subject.

I didn’t say she wants to be in the public eye. I said she chose a career which depends on being in the public eye. And yes, definately a generalization. But generalizations are generally made for a reason, don’t you think?

As the mother of a son who is an actor/singer in musical theater who lived in NYC for awhile the lifestyle is something that we muched discussed in the beginning. He eventually returned home and is almost finished with an engineering degree. He decided the lifestyle was not for him. Little privacy did seem not worth it to him. (Along with working your ass off in hopes of a break... he’s much more like his mama. Needs security. Community theater for him someday.)

Nope. Only that one is referred to by her first name and the other by her surname. In a school or work environment, this would be considered bullying and/or harassment with possible discrimination to answer to, believe it or not. But ofc this is not an employment situation

If a surname is not known, it could be evened out by using first names only.

But the poster explained the reason behind it perfectly, so it's all understood.

Probably the same reason former US presidents and their children are still entitled to security for a certain length of time after leaving office. Some give it up sooner than others, depending on how high-profile their lives are. In this case, he’s one of the future king’s two sons. And as Diana’s son, he will always garner a certain amount of attention that some of the Queen’s other grandchildren do not. Diana’s tragic life and death still has an impact on her boys. He did not choose to be born and raised in this unusual situation, and I feel that because his country does still support a monarchy and this life was forced on him, they have a certain responsibility to protect those born into it, especially those who garner much more attention (and he does and still would outside of his choices simply because of who his parents are).

It doesn't work that way in Canada. The RCMP and different departments within the Federal Government have various criteria that is to be met before they provide protection and also for dealing with foreign governments providing protection in the country. It's not as simple as someone being born a prince.

The RCMP is there to provide security for working royals who are here to do work, not those who are here by choice to live a leisure life.

You can use the upload a file button, but may have to resize your image if it's too "large"
