11:35am: The court has adjourned for a short morning tea break.

It is due to resume at 11.50am.

11:35am: Dr Milne told the court the fingernails on Mrs Baden-Clay's right hand had become detached due to her body's decomposition.

He said he managed to find four of the fingernails in the sleeve of Mrs Baden-Clay's jumper which was wrapped around her arms and head.

Under cross-examination from Gerard Baden-Clay's defence counsel Michael Byrne QC, Dr Milne said he had sent the fingernails for DNA testing.

I'll help out if that's alright, even if we double up. :)

Milne agrees the larynx was intact, the neck bones showed no injury, the spine showed no injury. #badenclay

Byrne: Decomposition does not affect the skeleton? Milne agrees. Byrne: So the CT scan is very important? Milne agrees. #badenclay

Can someone quickly explain all this to me, if she was thrown off the bridge wouldn't she still have suffered fractures?

According to Dr Milne if Allison had been thrown off the bridge she would likely to have suffered fractures

Allison's medical history showed she had been "prone" to suicidal thoughts, suffered from anxiety. #badenclay

11.30am: Forensic pathologist Dr Nathan Milne said the brain was examined by a neuropathologist but it was particularly difficult because of the level of decomposition.

He said the only finding was inconclusive, that there was modest amounts of granular material on the brain.

He said he tested for microscopic organisms found in water, called ``diatoms’’, which would be expected to have been found if a person had drowned.

He said there were none present in the samples he submitted to an expert.

Not necessarily. If she was already dead, and therefore totally relaxed, that may help to avoid fractures, for a start (Example - drunks falling over often sustain no fractures because they're "floppy" and don't brace).

Also, if she landed in water - or perhaps deep soft mud - the fall could have been cushioned. In fact, Nathan Milne specifically states this in the autopsy report in his conclusions

11:28am: Dr Milne said Mrs Baden-Clay did not have injuries consistent with having fallen 14 metres from the bridge on Mt Crosby Road to the bed of Kholo Creek.

"You would expect some significant injuries - bone fractures," he said.

However, he noted, Mrs Baden-Clay would not have necessarily suffered obvious injuries if she had fallen into a body of water.

Kate Kyriacou @KateKyriacou · now

Byrne QC is asking Dr Milne about the toxicology reports. #badenclay

Kate Kyriacou @KateKyriacou · 43s

Milne says decomposition could have caused the alcohol reading of .095 in Allison's blood. He says half, if not all, from decomposition.

Kate Kyriacou @KateKyriacou · 29s

Byrne says blood, liver and stomach showed different levels of Sertraline, all high. #badenclay

Kate Kyriacou @KateKyriacou · 24s

Milne says it's hard to say anything about liver and stomach levels, but blood was higher than you would expect from therapeutic levels.
