Gerard: Allison is two years older than me as well. She was 31, 32. We would like to have a family. #badenclay

Gerard: She was much better than she had been. She had pretty much recovered from those episodes. #badenclay

3:46pm: Mr Baden-Clay said he and wife returned to the international scout headquarters in Switzerland where they were volunteering.

He said there was great threat of avalanches at the time.

"There were times she thought that the sky was falling ... she was very, very, very anxious. I covered for her by saying she was not well, had a cold, had a headache, but she was out of action for a couple of days because of that," he said.

"This is the beginning of now 1999."

She was better but still anxious and fragile. Before, when we got married, she was a world beater - Gerard #badenclay

Gerard says she was a little more fragile than she was before. She found things with work a bit stressful. #badenclay

Gerard says "because my job was so good" they could afford for Allison to stop working. #badenclay

Gerard said they found a three bedroom townhouse near his parents house. #badenclay

  • #1,067
Perhaps Allison became 'fragile' after the marriage because she was married to a cheater?

  • #1,068
I think he never did mention Toni going to the conference as that would have
revealed he was back on with Toni

hmm, because he'd already decided how he was going to 'fix' the predicament he was in.. words premeditation come to mind.

Has he managed to spell out the connection to the Scouts yet? It is crucial the jury understand this!

Gerard #badenclay is talking about the International Scout Centre again. He is great-grandson of Scouts founder Robert Baden-Powell.

3:34pm: Mr Baden-Clay is recalling their trip through South America in great detail.

He said he first noticed signs of her depression in Rio after the couple learned other tourists had been mugged.

He said Allison's mood began to fluctuate thereafter.

"I've always been naturally protective of her. It was just natural for me to protect her I suppose," he said.

"Her mood fluctuated from one end of the spectrum ... from normal Al, who's just a lovely, kind, gentle person, but with a great sense of humour and love of life, though to some really deep depression ...

"Back in 1998 I had no idea, none of us had really any idea, what depression was."

Oh yes - work it work it!
Why didn't you add some more of those words you've been remembering - like magical!
ppphhhht! You're as transparent and sticky as a roll of tape.

Wow .. he's really laying it on thick there about his earning capacity .. pity it didn't translate back in Australia where people could actually witness it.

Gerard said in August he was made redundant. Both he and his boss, the first Flight Centre people to be made redundant. #badenclay

Gerard says at this point both he and Allison were unemployed.

Gerard says they both had a number of shares in Flight Centre.

Byrne says Gerard was happy to assist police, wasn't until his father said "this isn't like a missing person's case" that lawyer was called.

Byrne says police seemed to become more suspicious because Gerard had spoken to a lawyer. #badenclay

Bull.

The police in the very first interview on Day 1 told GBC something like "this isn't what we normally see in a missing persons case so we're calling in the Criminal Investigations team"

#badenclay "When we got married, she was a world beater. She could do anything." @abcnews

They were both unemployed. She fell pregnant around September 2000 - Gerard #badenclay

David Murray ‏@TheMurrayD 1m
They both bought Flight Centre shares at a discount, 'unfortunately I no longer have them'. #badenclay

Going to take him a long time to get to 2012 at this rate

And I'm also wondering what all this guff about the side-effects of Lariam have to do with anything that may be relevant? Those side effects wear off once the drug is stopped. Unless they're implying that Allison had an underlying predisposition to being depressed...

All this rubbish about volcanoes, avalanches, Princess Di, Kieran Perkins, etc etc blah blah - methinks the cake is being well and truly over-egged! But then, I'm not on the jury

It sounding more and more like the cheese slipped off Gerard's cracker.
