The Dixie Chicks

I don't believe any of the Chicks have ever said their views are more important than yours.

But if they did, maybe it would stem from the press and posters at this forum hanging on their every word.

I didn't say their view was more important than mine. I just don't agree with them, and I choose not to support them. They have the right to say what they want, and I have the right to disagree.

And it's not like they are shooting off their mouths at their backyard picnic, they are doing it when they have national coverage. I really think it's funny how they have dug themselves so deep in a hole. Obviously others feel the same way as I do...their record sales are in the dumper, many radio stations won't play their songs...and they've cancelled their tours. lol

Hey, it's a free country. They can shoot their mouths off all they want, they just have to understand there are consequences. It's as if Natalie is angry that we all don't agree with her...silly girl. I wonder what she'll do next...lol

She's waiting for Lubbock to errect a statue of her:eek: , just like they did for Buddy Holly. Fat chance in hell of that happening.

The lyrics from the song:

Lubbock Or Leave It

Dust bowl, Bible belt
Got more churches than trees
Raise me, praise me, couldn't save me
Couldn't keep me on my knees
Oh Boy
Rave on down Loop 289
That'll be the day you see me back
In this fool's paradise

Temptation's strong
(Salvation's gone)
I`m on my way
To hell's half acre
How will I ever
How will I ever
Get to heaven now

Throwin' stones from the top of your rock
Thinkin' no one can see
The secrets you hide behind
Your southern hospitality
On the strip, the kids get lit
So they can have a real good time
Come Sunday they can just take their pick
From the crucifix skyline

Temptation's strong
(Salvation's gone)
I'm on my way
To hell's half acre
How will I ever
How will I ever
Get to heaven now
Get to heaven now

International airport
A quarter after nine
Paris Texas, Athens Georgia's
Not what I had in mind
As I'm getting out I laugh to myself
'Cause this is the only place
Where as you're getting' on the plane
You see Buddy Holly's face

I hear they hate me now
Just like they hated you
Maybe when I'm dead and gone
I'm gonna get a statue too

Temptation's strong
(Salvation's gone)
I'm on my way
To hell's half acre
How will I ever
How will I ever

Get to heaven now

Words and music by Emily Robison, Martie Maguire, Natalie Maines and Mike Campbell

a local artist wrote a rebuttal song in response:

Trouble In The Henhouse Lyrics

Now you say we're hypocritical, and girls that may be true.
So maybe we'll just mend our ways and start to follow through.
We've seen the light, and we agree it's time to right our wrongs.
The first thing that we're gonna' do is stop buying Dixie Chick songs.
You birds have flown the coop; you've lost your ever-loving minds.
Maybe you should just shut your mouths - maybe now's the time.
'Cause if you'd 'Think It Over,' maybe then you 'Fools...' would see
This is as close to '...Paradise' as you will ever be. For such a nonjudgmental group of open-minded girls,
You sure have said a mouthful about our little world.
You've been 'A Long Time Gone,' so 'Give It Up and Let us Go.'
We're better off 'Without You'; you're not welcome anymore.
You birds have flown the coop; you've lost your ever-loving minds.
Maybe you should just shut your mouths - maybe now's the time.
'Cause if you'd 'Think It Over,' maybe then you 'Fools...' would see
This is as close to '...Paradise' as you will ever be.

Ain't got time for Dixie Chickens...
Lubbock, Texas is alive and kickin'...
It don't matter what they say...
This town will 'Not Fade Away'...

Now we know that our old airport ain't the biggest one around,
But it sure did do a fine job shipping you straight out of town.
And as far as tribute statues go, I wouldn't hold my breath
Because Buddy is a legend, and you're not even second best.
You birds have flown the coop; you've lost your ever-loving minds.
Maybe you should just shut your mouths - maybe now's the time.
'Cause if you'd 'Think It Over,' maybe then you 'Fools...' would see
This is as close to '...Paradise' as you will ever be.

Ummmm...A statue! Right. There is a lot of anger in those lyrics. Too bad they didn't sit though an anger management class prior to blowing their carrer out of the universe. Fools.

The "Trouble in the Henhouse" lyrics are good. That pretty much says it all.

It's been a long time since I've seen someone so hell-bent on ruining their career. But they sure did a bang-up job!

Ellen had the chicks on the other day. I didn't see the interview part but saw them singing in the last 3 minutes.

I hadn't seen them for awhile but did a double take on Natalie. She had on a pair of shorts, little boots. Her hair & makeup - I mean she was a real knockout. Couldn't help but think she's a bit full of herself and maybe her inflated ego has got the best of her.

I still think it's a shame. They are 3 very talented girls.

I think she is full of herself, but she's not the first "celebrity" who has gone down that path. And it is a shame...they are talented, but I just simply do not agree with them and will not have anything to do with them. I suppose that's the risk they took for being so vocal about this issue.

Can you imagine standing up in your office and saying what they said? Or to a customer? They don't come across as dumb, but you have to wonder did they really think that there weren't going to be people out there that didn't agree with them? They seem to have an axe to grind with a lot of people...from the president...to their hometown...to other singers. I guess they grew it, now they get to chew it.

I didn't even see the link to listen, until I read your post!!! I don't know how I missed that! Yeah, that is funny...thanks jodieo for posting it. :)

Did you hear at the end where he said something like there's a lot of space between your ears...lol And a couple of other things I couldn't hear.

I know they used to be such down home girls and now they've obviously jumped on the Hollywood bandwagon with their new look and vocal opinions. What gets me is Natalie's hostility like in the documentary "Shut up and Sing". This is more than just getting up and voicing an opinion.

They were just like the girls next door...and I loved listening to their music. I loved that Earl song...but, something has changed with them. Natalie is hostile and you have to wonder what's going on. I just can't imagine them being naive enough to believe that what they are doing wouldn't hurt their careers.

They can have their opinion...but they can also do it in a way they are going to offend those that don't agree with them. It's like they want their careers to self-destruct. And what's the deal with Lubbock? Why would you put down your hometown in such a fashion? Natalie needs to chill big-time. I wonder who she's going to target next?

luv, I included the quote of yours to which I was responding. You asked why the DCX think their views are "more important" than everyone else's. I pointed out they have never said any such thing.

And of course you have the right to disagree. The DCX would be the first to say so.

I dont think anyone here is "hanging on their every word" We are simply posting what THEY have said.

I didn't accuse anyone of misquoting them. But have you looked at how many pages this thread has? And it's not the only thread devoted to "What have the DCX said lately?"

When posters write "What makes them think anyone cares what they say?", one has to laugh!

Right. "Something" must have happened to the good ol' Dixie Chicks! They must have gone Hollywood or they must be too big for their britches.

It couldn't possibly be that they have spent 6 years living under the most corrupt American administration in many, many decades.

I guess I'm just intrigued by people that are hell-bent on self-destruction...lol

It's like a train wreck. You know you shouldn't look, but you do anyway. I'm just curious what the mouth will say next...and who her target will be.

Well, and that's your opinion. I disagree with you. I happen to have a lot of problems with the Clinton administration, but that's my opinion. If they want to ruin their careers...it's up to them. They can spout off all they like...I just think it's funny. The more negative responses they get...the more Natalie mouths off. Oh well...

We don't agree. And nothing you will say will change my mind about Bush or the Dumb Chicks, nor will anything I say change your mind, not that I want to try, nor are you trying to either. Agree with them...support them, whatever, it's up to you. I'm just fascinated to listen to them and see what they are going to do next. lol

I'm just waiting for their recording company to dump them. If they keep spouting off...and record sales keep dropping...I can see it happening. And when you have to cancel concerts because of poor ticket sales...well, they should look at the wriing on the wall. Apparently, there aren't enough people out there who support what they are saying to even fill a concert hall.

That is how I feel about them. I used to Love them until Natalie started running her mouth, I dont know but it totally turned me off. The funny thing is, I have had quite a few people tell me how much I look like her, lol..... I think they are VERY talented too. I still like their music, I just dont care to hear what they have to say anymore about Bush or anything for that matter.

Sorry, but this is just wishful thinking on your part. Their latest CD spent a couple of weeks or more at #1 on the charts. They have cancelled some concerts, but added other dates, including concerts overseas.

They will probably sell fewer records than they once did, but that isn't really unusual over the life of a band. And lots of us bought this latest CD entirely because of the controversy. So they are winning new fans, too.

After the initial fuss several years ago, they had a chance to act contrite. Obviously, they chose not to do so. There's no reason at this point to think they are unhappy with the new career path they have set.

Yeah, she's a motor mouth! Well, I personally think she's a cute gal...and I think she has a lot of talent...I just think they underestimated their fan base. I'm know there are people who support them, but there are also a lot of fans who have dropped them. They're big girls...and they chose their path...now they grew it, and they're chewing it. lol

And I really don't want to listen to them slamming Bush. I with you...I don't really care what they have to say, but I do like watching and listening to them to see what they are going to do next. They opened their traps...now they have to deal with the fact that a lot of us, don't agree with them.
