The Dogs

I am ASSuming, but if the dogs have been there since sometime in July, what a nightmare. Can anyone really think this is ok?

People are kindhearted. There is someone who would care for those dogs. Why doesn't he have someone help out?

Don't forget about the last 2 weeks of JUNE, when the family was on their vacation in Connecticut. I counted 13 weeks...so we are talking a little over 3 months!
My heart just breaks for those 2 dogs, as they are surely traumatized. :frown:
Lord only knows what they have been through or witnessed. They have not been able to get away from that house of horror. Instead, they are left there and abandoned by their human family...for over 3 months  I can't even imagine.

Thats the part thats cruel. Even if they have plenty of food and water and a place to go potty. Its like locking them up in an abandoned building for 3 months. To me, thats neglect.

I agree, my heart would not let me do that.
But, it may have been the norm in that household as we have been told the dogs were left there while the family was on vacation and they had a dog walker.
Even that is unacceptable to me. JMO

To me, it speaks volumes as to how this dog incident was handled. It seems if LE felt this was a grieving father, this checking on the dogs would have been handled in a more compassionate manner. After all, his wife was brutally murdered.

Nope, he is treated like a person who needs to be called to task .

Does MS talk about how sorry and distraught he is and how he is trying to do rhe best he can for his beloved pets. Nope.

Review how he places blame , deflects, and shows no compassion for his marginal old family dog.

I am not sure how the situation with the dogs came about, but it seems to me, it was all about the alarm going off several times through the day.
So when LE came to check on the property, they heard or saw the dogs, spoke to neighbors who said they had not seen MS for a couple of weeks.
They did what was supposed to be done, reported it to authorities.
I am sure this is being handled according to the rules, dog check, vet check etc.

I personally do not know how LE treated MS.
Nor do I know what LE SAID to him.
He may have been warned that something had to be done to ensure the health and safety of the animals
All the sheriff said was no citation was issued.
They had no further comments as it is an ongoing investigation

A very HOT abandoned building. With temperatures in the 90's this time of year, and humidity at 85-90% or higher, that closed up garage would be sweltering. Those poor little guys. They're grieving not only the loss of Teresa, but now the whole family. It's heartbreaking and senseless.

Great summary. There is so much we don't know. What we do know is no citation was issued and the dogs were not taken. So, IMO, Animal Control and Sheriff Scott are okay with the dogs remaining in his care. I also, am still not convinced the dogs were in the garage because as many people have mentioned, I think they would have run out when the garage door opened and it doesn't explain how the alarm would trip. I know many people with alarms and no one I know, has an alarm on their garage, not saying it isn't possible, but this is just my opinion.

Good story which definitely clears up a lot of speculation

A field officer with LCDAS went to the home Tuesday and saw a senior dog who appeared to be on the thin side with some skin problems. That dog came into the yard to greet the officer and seemed to be in good spirits, reports show. The other dog was hiding in a room in the house and could not be seen.

The dogs have access to a doggie door on the house that leads onto a lanai and into a fenced yard, reports show. A deputy who responded said there was a large bucket of water but no food.

Wow! Wow! Wow! A bucket of water. Yum. No food. Old thin dog with skin issues.

Yup. No problem. I guess this is how we treat the old faithful family dog.

Sure. It meets some legal standard, I guess.

For some of the rest of us, well, it makes me sick. Just wow!

Not to be troublesome, but some dogs, Mine included, are not free fed. But fed once or twice a day.
I know it is not the best situation but it certainly puts to bed several things that we have been speculating on

I am very happy to hear that the dogs are not kept in the garage.
Glad they have access to outdoors
Glad MS is coming by regularly

I, too, wish the dogs could be with their family

Well at least we now know that the reports of the dogs being couped up in a hot garage are untrue. That makes me feel better about the situation. People sure do like to take false 3rd hand info and run with it don't they!

"He also said the dogs were kept at LCDAS for a week following the homicide."

So, LE could've taken samples from the dogs for an entire week (6/29-7/6).

7/24/2015 - Neighbors say they witnessed technicians take saliva and hair samples from the couple’s dogs. http://www.winknews.com/2015/07/27/4...ievers-murder/

What happened between 7/7-7/24? Something must have prompted LE to go back for samples during this two week time period. The 7/12 raid at CWW's trailer?

Misinformation that grows legs is aggravating.

It is so helpful to have NaplesNews.com elaborate on the details from a Lee County Domestic Animal Services report.
It seems the dogs are in the home, can access the fenced yard through a doggie door, and that they are visited daily.

Someone else mentioned they don’t free-feed their dog. I don’t free-feed my dog either. Looking for dog food in my house, one would have to look in the fridge and freezer. My dog eats RAW meat. No kibble in a bag.

- - . . . neighbors who said they usually see someone visiting the home at 27034 Jarvis Road daily to feed the pets. - -
- - a field officer met with Mark Sievers at the home when he said he visits the dogs daily. . . - -

Raw dog food (expensive); you're my hero.

Hm. Do I have access to a different article?.

The deputy also spotted a cat in the home and spoke with neighbors who said they usually see someone visiting the home at 27034 Jarvis Road daily to feed the pets. The same neighbors said no one had been seen stopping by the past few days.

Mark Sievers told a Lee County animal officer he has changed his habits to avoid the media at his home, since his wife's death.

And the marginal dog is in the article I have too.
