The Duggar Family: 18 Kids & Counting

So I guess these things make the parents vicious, exploitative, evil child abusers. Better call Child Protective Services, quick!!! Let's rescue these poor miserable wretches and get them into foster homes immediately!!!

What does it matter if they take things given to them by networks?? They have to be TV-watchers to do so? Just because they don't watch TV doesn't mean they're against it for others. If networks are offering them things, why not take them? Who is that hurting? It's only benefiting their family. And it's NOT like they're making a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 by being on these shows. They're just showcasing their lifestyle. Why is that wrong?

:clap::clap::clap: exactly,, you guys!

There is more to a person's mental health and well being than having discipline and acting polite!

Well said!

(p.s. everytime I see yoiu "name" I smile - that's my DH's name and son's name.)

Because it's hypocritical. They are showcasing their lifestyle, which doesn't include TV or the networks. How can you keep your kids from "watching" tv (for whatever reasons), but it's okay to be "on it". Sends mixed message IMO

Laini.. of course that's true.... but, I'm still waiting... WHAT evidence do you have, exactly,, that these kids are being abused or neglected in any way??

<<Because it's hypocritical. They are showcasing their lifestyle, which doesn't include TV or the networks. How can you keep your kids from "watching" tv (for whatever reasons), but it's okay to be "on it". Sends mixed message IMO>>

Fundiva... That's some awfully illogical logic. I can see why ANY parent would not want their kids to watch TV because of all the mind-numbing crap that is on. I would not have cable if I had kids. In fact, most of the time I forbid MYSELF to watch it! And obviously the Duggars think it's OK to have their family on TV, because that would be far better than what is already on there. As in, they are trying to set an example. How is that a mixed message...??? ???

They'll start their own Duggar College with mom the President. Afterall, she is homeschooling them with only possessing a high school education herself. So what's to stop them from starting their own college?

I honestly don't see how they'll be able to afford to send them to college. Hopefully, the network will donate scholarships to them.

well...... there are millions of parents who only have 1 or 2 kids, who can't, or don't make the effort to figure out, how to send their kid (s) to college. like my parents for example. and knowing the ingenuity and positive thinking that the duggars possess... they will probably find a way!

They just don't need money...they need a foundation of academic achievement. With them being responsible for helping the younger ones with their lessons, I wonder how much time they have had to their own personal studies.

Like I said in an earlier post....we will see. I am betting it won't happen, especially for the girls.

Well my parents couldn't afford it, so those of us in my family who wanted to go had to pay for it ourselves. Maybe these kids will too!

either way.... i am quite sure they will grow up to be far better human beings and mentally healthier than about 90% of American kids these days.

well.. me too! we will have to wait and see. maybe one of them will write a tell-all book someday.. and then we can find out!

I agree with you beaches. It won't happen. And yes...I do find it funny that they "take from the networks" when they don't allow their kids to watch TV.
:bang:

It makes you wonder.

I agree Leigh. This is ANYTHING but NORMAL or HEALTHY! It is sad and nothing to be bragging about.:( They are freaks and making money off their kids. They even admit that the older ones teach the younger ones their lessons. Too bad these kids don't have a chance at a quality education or a college education. Let's just keep track of this family and see how many (especially the girls) make it to college. I bet the percentage will be WAY lower than the national average of girls in general that attend college.

The isolation, and the lack of education are really something I find sad. I remember watching a documentary about Jim Jones, and all the people were just smiling and having a good ole' time....and look what was going on there. Not that this is the same situation...but it's about control. JimBob has it and his wife and kids don't.

None of the kids, IMO, will leave the compound for college (and I don't personally believe they'd be able to get into most colleges). If they do any college classes, it will be on the computer. They're not being prepared to be productive human beings in this world...they are being dictated to by JimBob. Most of us want our kids to get out on their own, and we provide them with the tools to do this. Most of us make mistakes, but that's how we learn. These kids are isolated and are not being given any tools for a future outside the compound.

They may be cared for and fed, but these kids are much like the animals we see at the zoo. They'll never know what it's like to be out on their own. They'll always be "caged" because their mom and dad (the dad, mostly, IMO) are seeing to that by providing them with an inferior education and saddling them with way too much responsibility for the other children. They have zero interaction with other "children" unless it's the few here and there that visit the "Holy Church of the Basement, and Tax Write-Off."

We see people go off the religious deep end all the time...and that's their choice, but when you drag kids down this crazy path, that's really a sad situation. They'll keep popping the kids out...and they'll keep dumping the babies on the new "buddies" because Ma and Pa think God is talking to them. Maybe they should disconnect from their God for just a moment and take a good look at what they're doing to their children.

And the girls will marry boys from suitable families (my guess is that most if not all will marry siblings from one or two other familes. Then the girls will themselves start having babies (and, yes, they'll all be on the compound), and so on and so on. And during all this none of them are getting an education or an opportunity to go out and do what they want when they get older. They're brainwashed by good ole' dad and mom.

One may break out...but that kid will be shunned, I am sure. This is how these types operate. They're doing what they want to do, not what is best for the child and child's future.

But they think if they line up the fresh-faced kids...dress them nicely, and show us their nice big home...that we'll think they are fine. These kids don't have the same dreams as our kids do...and if they do, it will never materialize. It's not in Pa Duggars plans.

I'll pass on the Kool-aid.

It is so sad. And it's no wonder that Oprah wouldn't air the episode that featured the Duggars. I'm surprised she even had them on the show to begin with.
