The Duggar Family: 18 Kids & Counting

I posted awhile back on this thread about that one. I thought it was hilarious too but did not post it! It was a old family pic of the Duggars with like only 15 kids at the time and underneath the pic in real big letters is says VAGINA then under that it says in small letters "It's not a clown car!" LMAO :laugh:

That's so funny. Well, if you really want to read some interesting posts, go to Television Without Pity (look for the forums) and take a looksee. It's pretty much anything goes there (it takes a lot to get a thread shut down there), but it's a place I read to catch up on what's going on on these shows.

If you have not read Jenny McCarthy's book about pregnancy called "Belly Laughs", you should. She is really funny! When she was pregnant with her first child she said her husband worried that sex would never be the same... more like throwing a hot dog down a hallway! I thought that was a hilarious analogy!!! That is probably what it IS like for Mr. and Mrs. Duggar!

I can totally see this happening. I think it depends on the family and the personality of the child. Some might thrive with so many siblings but some may feel they are robbed of their parents' attention, their childhood, etc. I'm very curious to see how the Duggar children turn out as adults.

Yes I hope we do get a follow-up one day but I wouldn't bet on it.

Every single one of my cousins have had one or two kids (they came from a large family). We always had fun at their house (there was always something going on), and holidays were a hoot, but like you friend, my cousins feel the same way.

None of them had any help with college, and all had student loans (not that there's anything wrong with this), but when it came time for them to have kids, they didn't want this for their kids. They wanted to be able to spend one-on-one time with their kids. Attend their school and outside functions. And they mostly wanted to put their kids through college. But this is just how they felt.

Even if the Duggars only had two kids, I'd still feel the way I do about the situation. The excessively large number of children and their excessively large "daily to-do" list and the fact that they are "buddied" up with babies....these things are bothersome to me. Mom and Dad need to be the parents. It's one thing to have a sibling be a "buddy" for a day (if you're going somewhere), but from what I can tell, the "buddies" are shouldering the responsibilities that should be shouldered by mom and dad.

I raised my kids...my kids didn't have to raise each other. And they didn't have "jurisdictions," they had normal chores that took a bit of their time but helped them learn responsibility.

Well...with this friend of mine - after she had her daughter, she went to work in a factory and put every penny she could towards her daughter's education. The daughter is now an RN. In return for her mother's sacrifice, she now has a suite in the basement of her home for her mother (83) and home help. They are very close.

That is exactly how I feel. The important thing is the element of CHOICE! Sounds like your family was a happy one! My youngest is going after his Ph.D and I feel like he will never be finished! Your daughter is doing a wonderful thing for those children. It will change their lives.

That is so wonderful that your son is working on his Ph.D!! Our families sound a lot alike.

I don't have a problem with home schooling at all. I have a issue with them teaching each other and her teaching them when all she has is a high school diploma.

I would only homeschool if I had substitutes... Like I said earlier. I have 2 that are kicking our . I know I would be in the looney bin for reals.:boohoo:

LOL...I hear ya! A doctor...how exciting!

My engineer...the one who took every toy he ever had apart (he just had to see how things worked), started in one field of engineering, moved to another, thought about a third (after doing some lunar robotics thing). Finally when he was about done (the programs were all 5 years) after 6 1/2 years, he tells me he thinks he likes the the whole CSI thing.

Picture a Saturday morning cartoon character that's about to be blown to smithereens...lol...and then you'd get an idea of what I looked like...

Anyway, I tell him...Ummm, that's a scientist, and that's a totally different degree which you are more than welcome to pay for. That ended that discussion.

Most kids seem to hate school...mine can't get enough. I guess if they were footing the bills, they might have a different opinion.

This son wanted to be a doctor (while he was in high school). He's a true engineer and that's where he belongs. I told him that if he was to be a doctor, he'd have to be a pathologist. His communication skills aren't the best.

You son has a long road ahead of him (and you'll survive!), but how exciting for him. That's really neat.

LOL...love your story. I think we must live parallel lives! Jonathan started out in engineering also...chemical. He did one year of that before he changed his mind.

I bet everything is done in some "routine"....nothing can be spur of the moment, you know? And I feel for the older kids as you know they take on some of the responsibility of caring for the younger ones.

I had to laugh...I was thinking that Mr. Duggar can probably just walk by his wife and she gets pregnant. Wonder if they know there's a cure for that?

I have watched a few of the Duggar shows over the past few years and really try to understand their way of thinking. Obviously, they are doing something right because Mr. and Mrs. Duggar are still in love, all of the children seem happy, they aren't on Welfare and taking advantage of the system, etc.

So who is anyone to say that they are right or wrong? My first reaction was to say that they are wrong and that was when they were having baby #15. They say that they will take as many babies as God gives them. I'm not in agreement with that way of thinking. Does that mean that I can go out and have unprotected sex tonight and if I get pregnant, that was God's plan? I'm more of the mentality that God gave me a brain and I will serve him by using it.

I also feel that they are pushing buttons with each additional pregnancy. Mrs. Duggar is getting older and her chances of having a baby with Down Syndrome or other birth defects is climbing. Also, Mrs. Duggar could develop a problem and die in childbirth. I think they should count their blessings and enjoy the children that they have . . . which brings me to the other part of this . . . how can they possibly give their children the attention that they need? I know that Mrs. Duggar home schools the kids but that is not mother-child time.

I'm not done but the clock says my butt needs to get in the shower - NOW!
