The Duggar Family: 18 Kids & Counting

http://www.duggarfamily.com/aboutus.html

Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar married July 21st, 1984. At that time, they chose to use the birth control pill. They thought, “We don’t want children right now. We can’t afford them. We want children in our timing, when we’re ready.” Four years later they decided to have their first child. Then, Michelle went back on the pill, but she conceived and had a miscarriage. At that point they talked with a Christian medical doctor and read the fine print in the contraceptives package. They found that while taking the pill you can get pregnant and then miscarry. They were grieved! They were Christians! They were pro-life! They realized that their selfish actions had taken the life of their child. They prayed and asked God to forgive them, and to teach them to love children like He loves children. They asked God to bless them with as many children as He saw fit in His timing. Right after that Michelle got pregnant with twins! To date they have been blessed with 17 children, (10 boys and 7 girls) Joshua, Jana & John-David (twins), Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah & Jeremiah (twins), Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah (and #18 due in January 2009!).
oops,they left out Jennifer.

Record number of kids born to one mother:

It is 69 Kids!
The world record for having the most number of children officially recorded is 69 by the first of two wives of Feodor Vassilyev (1707-1782), a peasant from Shuya, 150 miles east of Moscow. In 27 confinements, she gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets. The children were born between 1725-1765.
OMG! Way to many!!:bang:She must have dreamed of that many nights! I know I would!

Surely mama knows that she doesn't need another child.
So am I to understand that their religion keeps the Duggar's from using birth control?
A"brief" explanation -
King James Version

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD:
and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man;
so are children of the youth.
Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:
they shall not be ashamed,
but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Psalm 127:3-5 (KJV)

Their religion (in and of itself) does not forbid birth control. They are Christian - like many other people. In fact they have their own CHURCH - services help at member's homes with other families who share their philosophy. Their BELIEF is based in an interpretation of the Bible that is known as "Quiverful". It is the belief that couples should have as many children as "God gives them". They do not use birth control because they believe that God controls the womb and it's up to Him how many children you will have - which can range from none to 25 or more. The Duggar's interpretation also frowns on immodest clothing, pants on girls and heavy make-up. They are quite "conservative" - the kids see little TV, have little internet access until they are 18 - the Duggar's prefer instead to have ALL the children play an instrument. A "frugal" life is also a hallmark - self sufficient, no "credit", pay as you go, spend wisely, don't waste. The Duggar's are VERY GOOD at the "frugal" part. The wife has her "jurisdiction" and the father (as head of the family) has his and well behaved respectful children are the expected result of both parents tending to their "jurisdictions". The KIDS even have "jurisdictions".

On the dark side of "Quiverful" you find Andrea and Rusty Yates who practiced the "Quiverful" family plan. It is NOT (obviously) something that is positive for every woman - Michelle Duggar is the exception to the norm - most women could not physically endure 18 pregnancies in good health.

The Duggar Family is well known because of the TV documentaries done about their family and lifestyle. They are NOT the only family but "Quiverful" has enjoyed a widened acceptance because of the Duggar Family - I daresay "Quiverful" has never been so popular - and more couples embrace the lifestyle with every baby Michelle Duggar delivers. There are a LOT of blogs and websites the explore the "Quiverful" philosophy (Google the term Quiverful) - here is the movement's general site - but each family can be different in the degree to which they adhere to the beliefs so each individual site varies as to the DEGREE of conservatism and individual philosophy. Google away :)

Actually, they still have alot of "J" names to choose from.
sure, but I meant they literally left out their last child in their list of children's names..Jennifer.They must have not updated that page since she was born,so when they added no. 18's annoucement, she got left out.http://www.babynames.com/Names/Alpha/?let=J\\

I personally like Jacob for a boy, and either Jessica, Jennesssa or Jennelle for a girl.
yes, they're all cute.do they have a Jason? do the kids have middle names, too?
I wonder why some don't have M names, after Michelle.Mary would be a nice religious name for a girl.

The bible also says 'the heavens declare the glory of God,and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.' :) Not that stars are children,of course! :)

I went to the site to vote and was hoping you could add your own. I would have suggested Jughead.

Well I saw it on several different sites, but since it was 250 years ago, I guess we can't be absolutely sure! She sure was fertile, and I guess none of her births were singles.

I know which site your talking about and I do not know how accurate it was since many of the births listed were not well documented.
