Gee, I raised 4 people in a 1000 sq foot house with a basement/1 car garage and my Mom and Dad raised 5 in one a bit smaller than that with a basement but no garage. BGF and her family had 6 people living in an under 1000 sq ft house with no basement or garage.
So, 20 people in a 7000 is not too many at all.

Some people must be used to an awful lot of room! LOL!

These children will not be ready for college. I am not saying pamper or spoil them I am saying they won't even know how to use a computer!!!

I read on their website that they have 7 computers. But, I agree, they won't know how to handle real life when they get out there.

Had to jump in on this one, My cousins had 13 children....22 years difference between the oldest and the youngest. Life must not have been so wonderful, out of those 13 children, only 6 grandchildren were produced. Ive never asked my cousins any questions about why they chose not to have children, but I can imagine. How can any person have their own identity if they all dress the same, all the haircuts are the same, etc. Sooner or later, several of those kids are going to be blackballed from the family for voicing their opinions or wanting to do something out of the control of their parents.

My brother was 11 years younger than me and it was my job to take care of him..while I loved my brother, I was not too thrilled up to the the age of of 16 dragging him with me all around (my mother was too busy with her social responsibilities to care for him, she finally quit all her clubs and etc when he was 6 and realized what was going on).

I feel for those kids in large families.

The thing that gets me is that they are having at least one baby per year. That, to me, is just unnatural. Both of my parents came from large families, but the kids didn't pop out at that rate. There were gaps of two or three years between babies. This is like an assembly line, or a puppy mill or something. How can they possibly know anything about each child? I wonder if they are also anti-vaccination etc.

well i dont think their is anything wrong with having 16 kids i personaly wouldnt have that much and when i do have kids im going to have 2-3 max. maybe she loves them so much she wants to give more love to more children.

This thread got me wondering about why some Christians have this thing about long hair on women. I found this:

"1Corinthians 11:3-15 tells us that since the man is the head of the woman, and there is a fundamental difference between men and women, that difference should be symbolized in the ways men and women wear their hair.

"But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head ...

"For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. ... For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. ...

"Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering."

Throughout the Bible it is stressed that men and women are different. A man is not like a woman. A woman is not like a man. It is a sin for a woman to try to appear like a man. God has one place for a man and a different place for a woman. For this cause, in Deut. 22:5 we are commanded: "A woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God." It is a sin for women to appear masculine. It is equally a sin for men to appear effeminate. In fact, 1 Cor. 6:9 names some of the unrighteous that "shall not inherit the kingdom of God." And among the adulterers and fornicators and drunkards and thieves and covetous and extortioners, God put the effeminate. To be effeminate is a horrible sin in God's sight. And the first sin with which God chided Adam, after the fall, was this:

"Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife..."

I say, God has given man one position and woman another position and this difference in their position should be shown by men having short hair and women long hair. "Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven" (1 Cor. 11:4,5). And verse 6 continues: "For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered."

Man is made in the image of God. God is a masculine God. The masculine pronoun is used of God everywhere in the Bible. That foolish and unscriptural title given by a woman preacher, Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, "Our Father-Mother God," dishonors God. God is not effeminate. God is not feminine, but masculine. And man is made in the image of God. On the other hand, a woman is not made so much in the image of God, but in the image and as a mate to man. So the Scripture says: "For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man."

Blessed is the woman that remembers this; her glory is in being a help to a man, and in submission to her husband or her father. And long hair is the mark of this submission, the mark of this femininity.


A man should not pray or prophesy with his head covered. That would dishonor his head, says the Scripture. Men instinctively know that it is shameful to wear hats in public service, and reverent men remove their hats when they pray. Likewise, men instinctively know that they ought not to have long hair. A man has short hair, and this symbolizes the fact that he can approach Jesus Christ freely and that he takes the responsibility as the head of his home.

On the other hand, a woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head. Now look at verse 15 and you will see plainly that God is not talking about a woman wearing a hat or veil. Verse 15 says: "But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering." A woman, when she prays, should have a covering, some symbol that marks her as an obedient and surrendered wife or daughter. Her long hair is given her for a covering, and a woman who does not have her head covered in that way dishonors her head. And verse 6 says that it is a shame for a woman to be shorn, and she ought to be covered. This symbolic covering or veil for a woman is long hair. Long hair is a mark of a woman's womanliness in God's sight, and is plainly given her for that express purpose, as verse 15 says."

I guess this explains the hair and the dresses. And the swimsuits.

So interesting that different cultures see this issue so differently. Amish women pin up their long hair and wear prayer caps. The men keep hats on at all times. But this batch of Christians insists that women MUST have long hair and man must not cover their heads while praying. Common heritage, totally different interpretations....

My great-great-great grandmother had sixteen kids, of which 14 got to be fairly elderly, which was a good track record for the day. I'm descended from her 9th child/5th son, who she had optimisitically named "Finis" (pronounced Phineas).
But back then they didn't have the access to BC that we do, so the size of her family really wasn't a conscious decision on anyone's part.

I don't understand this either. I'm struggling with just having one more child. I'm worried about taking that attention away from my daughter. I don't see how people do it with so many children.
I went to elementary school with a girl who had 11 brothers and sisters. They only had two bedrooms, and the kids slept like cordwood, in shifts. That poor woman had a baby nearly every year and didn't get any relief until her husband got dunk and fell in the catfish pond and drowned. They actually did better after he died because of his SS payments and public assistance, which they couldn't get while he was alive and working.

Love the Finis! Heck of a theory.
My paternal grandparents had 11 kids, of which my father was one of the babies. Each of them went on to have large families. My grandparents had 50-60 grandchildren, Needless to say, I didn't have a close relationship with them as I was just one of many lol!

They are always shopping at Walmart but don't have alot of children with them and I believe many of the kids attend public school. I would just die if I had to take care of that many kids and homeschool them.
They're probably Pentecostals.
Old School Pentecostals are noticable because the women don't cut their hair and wear flat shoes and long, sack-like dresses. They also don't believe in using musical instruments in church--no piano,organ,e tc. All human voice.

This woman (and her children) are probably going to have issues re teeth & bones due to the amount of children she's had. You're using your own body to build a baby, and if you go to the well too many times, certain resevoirs will be taxed, if not completely depleted. The skeleton & teeth are the first to pay. It might also affect the immune system. Also, if you're having so many children so rapidly, your body might be thinking they are not surviving and ramping up your hormones.

Same with me. My dad was the youngest of 6, my mother an only child. As far as my paternal grandparents were concerned I was one of 14 grandchildren. For my maternal grandparents I was the 1st of 4, so my relationship to them was far tighter.

Actually...yeah. That's another thing Old School Pentecostals were famous for: floor length bedclothes with convenient holes for easy access.
Although for people who are so prudish/conservativ, these people seem to like sex A LOT.

I think they are independent evangelicals. There are many evangelicals who are into the "modest" clothing and big families and not necessarily part of an organized church.

I have a stupid question: Is it possible to breast feed one or two babies while pregnant with another? I thought most women stop ovulating while nursing?

They have been and are currently living in a 2400 sq. foot house. You do the math. That is way smaller that 4 living in 1000 feet.
