The Murder of Janet Abaroa #1

This is my first post to this message board, but I have been following this story (thank you Mr. All Good for your blog!), since I found out about it from my sister-in-law. I went to the same college as Janet and Raven. I knew of them, but you know of everyone in a college that small. I've got some answers to a few of people's questions in previous posts. 1--The trust fund. The only trust fund that Janet's parents endorse (or so I've been told from an employee at SVU) is the fund that was created at SVU in her name. 2--Janet and Raven were not married in a Mormon temple. 3--Raven did not serve an LDS mission. 4--He was enrolled at SVU while I was there. And he played soccer, of course. And he never graduated. 5--He was at the funeral that was held in Buena Vista and the baby was with him as well as family.
I am a Mormon too, and crimes like these intrigue me. He should know better, just as any other God-fearing person should know better. But he'll have his in the end.

Is it possible that the younger ages reflect second generation, named for the older ones? If the middle names, which were not shown, are different, there would be no necessity for designations such as "Jr," or "II."

I took the photo over to photoshop and corrected the tint and lighting and I gotta say I think you're right. edited to add: check the ears and teeth too.

With all of Raven's *impressive* photoshop skills (LOL) you would think he'd know how to clean up a photo (without removing a nose).

Why would anyone radically make themselves over twice in such a short period of time?

IF the photos are the ones of Raven and Kaiden on the porch before a hike, the same set where Janet appears holding Kaiden too, then yes, that's Raven. That's how I knew he wasn't a natural blonde.

I found this to be an interesting quote from Raven:" 4/19/05: This is the morning of Uncle Derek's birthday"

OK, can anyone find a Derek Abaroa with a DOB of 4/19?

I think most of these records are gleened from public records, like utilities or government services provided. I've used the service before and have never seen these types of results.

I was thinking that too. But since Raven is listed at addresses in four different states, with people other than Janet during the years that he was married to her, it had me wondering if there was more to the age discrepancy. I'm not sure how the background reports work so I don't know if his name listed at those addresses during those dates implies anything at all. Maybe it could be that he lived there at another time, and the reports are just posted on those dates? Does anyone know how those reports work?

Thanks for the recognition! I'm still trying to reach my cousin at the SBI. He phoned me this morning on his way to a meeting and left a voicemail. I'll try to catch him tonight. I KNOW he'll have information because any time a murder such as this occurs, they get called in for the forensic investigation.

In any case, Derek & Raven were listed at the same address in Utah on 7/18/2001. Weren't Raven & Janet already married then?

I only knew them in passing. I remember Janet to be very to herself, not very outgoing, very quiet. The story the Raven told about him meeting her for the first time is very much believable in my mind. She didn't look very happy to be at that college, but I think as time wore on, it grew on her.

Raven, I remember as being very outgoing, loud, and outspoken. Always wanted to be the center of attention. And so the pairing of the two was quite mismatched, unless you believe that opposites attract.

One thing I did notice in the possible sibling list you had Jacob Abaroa
On the 2nutmeg soccer site there is an email for Jacob Abaroa-Peters (who did serve a mission) and has a baseball website.

Janet was obviously a stand out soccer star, but we've had a very tough time finding anything on his playing. Did he actually play for the school? Do you know why he dropped out? or why Janet took the year off?

I believe his resume listed that he had attended a community college in Utah and then Southern Virginia University as well, though he never graduated.

I mention this because there has been speculation as to whether or not he even attended the school. Of course, he could have lied on his resume.

OK, now I think we have hit surname paydirt. I think it's entirely possible that Peters was the name of the father, the name the children had up until a point.. I have stated all along that I am not convinced that Raven Abaroa was given the birth name of either the first name of Raven or the last name of Abaroa.

I think that there is something odd with the names, but after you posted the following possible siblings ...

ABAROA, SHILOH P
ABAROA, KAR S
ABAROA, RAVEN S
ABAROA, DEREK
ABAROA, JACOB P

That's true; I hadn't even thought about that. So it is entirely possible that his birth name is Raven. Especially if his family is/was as infatuated with their history as Raven seems to be.

Middle initials of P and S are common to your list, Golfmom.
P may well be for Peters.
S may mean there are half- siblings with another father after her divorce from Raven's father.

I tend to think that Raven has a light skinned father and the brother he is shown with in the Christmas professional photo is his half brother.
I have NO doubt but what he was visiting HIS biological family last Christmas. It all reads as such. Also, there is a resemblance in the profiles of the two men when they are posed with their babies in the link I gave. Same nose.

On the tribute page to the 1999 Isuzu Vehicross...

Does anyone know about this vehicle. I'm finding prices all over the place, but it definitely has appeal. It wasn't in the police report / affidavit. Can anyone find out if he still owned it?

Raven was on the soccer team. I think that somewhere I read that he was a goalie, although I don't know if he actually was the team's goalie. I think it's intereting that he didn't graduate, considering that if you were a decent athlete they wanted you to stay and finish (like they offered scholarships and the like to ease the financial troubles of the tuition--especially for athletes). I wonder if there might have been a problem--him thinking that he should be playing and wasn't, so he decided to leave the school. But that's just me thinking.

I don't know why Janet took a year off either. I was finished there in '99, so I didn't hear much of them after that.
