...you're absolutely right...i'd like to apologize for digging around the siblings postings, i'm sure they're grieving and going through a very bad time right now...
Oh, no ... I don't mean that. Digging around is what we do. I just meant that I hope that no one would harass them, and will honor their personal space. I'm sorry that I worded my post poorly.

Was this from misfitting.com? Loretta's following this one as well, just biding her time, I think.

I try to take care with qualifying much of what I say, but I enjoy Loretta because she just says it, and I can usually guarantee you that I'll agree with it.

I know in this case that she and I are in complete agreement. Remember that in mind if she posts an entry about Abaroa any time soon.
The quote wasn't on misfitting.com, but Loretta was indeed the author. I simply wanted to dispel the thought that Janet was to testify against Raven. It wouldn't happen in NC.

I don't remember who originally posted this, (although this isn't the exact link), but is this simply bad reporting? This article was written a good deal of time after the murder.

NBC 17 - News - Police: Young Mother's Slaying Not Random

... Officers found Abaroa's body in her home on Ferrand Road at about 11 p.m. April 26 after they were alerted by the woman's co-workers...

Has there been any discussion of the check that was seized with the other household items? Apparently it was made out to Matrix Capital in the amount of $1201.65. Perhaps that's where the purported embezzled funds were going. I looked up Matrix Capital and found among other things that they specialize in securities trading. It seems that I read somewhere that he was daytrading recently. That certainly is an awful lot of money for someone who had been out of work and couldn't pay their rent. Any thoughts?

If I'm not mistaken, the original search was done on Wednesday, April 27th, during which LE collected samples & swabbings of a vehicle. LE then returned to the house on Thursday, April 28th. Here's a link to an old article:

Eyewitness News 11.com: Few Clues in Murder of Durham Mother

Eyewitness News was there Thursday night as Durham police officers collected more evidence. Investigators removed a car from Abaroa's house.

Is the car that was removed the same car that was swabbed the night before?

At the moment just this -- it's more hinkage if that's the case. Seriously so. You're right -- that is a big sum of money for folks in their circumstances.

Police Notes:

http://www.timescommunity.com/site/tab5.cfm?newsid=14470746&BRD=2553&PAG=461&dept_id=511688&rfi=6

Police said 25-year-old Janet Abaroa was found with multiple stab wounds on a bedroom floor
Police did not say if they have any suspects in the case or a motive, but they are saying it was not a random murder.

...........i still wonder why, right from the beginning, LE was stating it was not random....how do they determine that immediatly ?
Probably because they have blood stains in Raven's car, on his clothes, etc. It's amazing how the naked eye can't see some traces of blood spatter. I remember the Michael Peterson murder trial, also in Durham. He didn't realize that there was blood spatter all over his sweatshirt, as well as on the inside of his shorts. What purplexes us all is why, if it was so simple to determine that he did it, are they not arresting him?

Frankly, Laurie, I think that's the closest LE has come to giving a barely perceptible nod in Raven's direction. Why make it a point to say that otherwise.

To be fair to Raven, let me throw this out there, even though I myself don't believe it's a possibility -- I have been told by two different sources now that he wasn't just unfaithful, but during their separation "rampantly" so.

Consider just for a second the possibility that whatever the status of his marriage, maybe someone thought he wasn't getting out fast enough.

Like I said; this option doesn't jibe with my gut, but it's worth mentioning.

Can I ask a very basic question? What's the difference between a "sample & control" and a "swabbing"?

..........as someone else mentioned pages ago......raven could easily dye his air, change appearance, name.........( hell, we KNOW he's good at that.....)and disappear...

... LE saying the 'not random' , IF they are looking at raven, i hope they are watching his every move.....

.....................interesting MisterA...the 'lover-on-the-side taking out the main competition...'
...i'm going more with the lover pressuring raven , as well as the embezzlement trial looming......pressure, pressure, everywhere.......

....from what i understand reading some of the googled entries:

http://www.vgl.ucdavis.edu/forensics/samplecollection.html

control: ie, blood, or hair , plucked directly from janet's head..( or raven's....or.....)

sample: blood/ hair found at scene..

swabbing: ( this entry was on saliva in particular.....)

If feasible, it is best to submit whole evidence or reference items for DNA analysis of saliva. If this is impractical, then swab the probable areas. Animal saliva has been successfully DNA typed from clothing, toys, collars, human skin, and fur of other species.....

,,,a swab does appear to be able to be taken off of items of interest, in the house, vehicle etc............. and then DNA matched to the control DNA...

I theorized several days ago that Raven might be dabbling in day trading. I had nothing to back my suspicions on, just a feeling, so there's no proof. You probably read my post, then MisterAllGood was discussing Mark Barton in his state who killed his family and shot up a bunch of people in office buildings at the day trading offices and other offices in the complex. He committed suicide.

I wonder, could you tell us what else Matrix Capital does in the public sector? Are they a lender of any sort? A loan broker? I am terribly uneducated about financial things, and I know this is your field of expertise, judging from your screen name. :)
I'm not going to speculate on what Raven might have been speculating on with his money, I could be very wrong, but I would like to know more about Matrix Capital in layperson's terms.
Thanks!!!

Control: Biologic material containing DNA from known subject: Janet's blood from Janet's vein, hairs plucked from head containing the bulb and skin tag, etc.
Raven's hair, blood, saliva collected in same method. Kaiden's hair, blood, saliva was probably also collected.

Swabbing: Q- tip like wet and dry evidence retrieved using sterile procedure. Investigators collect minute traces of biological material from the crimescene and place it in preservative medium. Specimens are labeled and cataloged as collected and the chain of evidence is preserved from officer collecting to crime lab acceptance.

Samples: The name for the material collected from the swabbings.

This is how I understand it from watching " CSI" but I could be wrong.

But tonight I realized I didn't get something "Moxie" was trying to tell me.

Here's a link to the updated version of the blog entry I wrote about Raven Abaroa's myspace.com site --
The Murder of Janet Abaroa... Raven's MySpace (updated 5/21)

Myspace distinguishes between your signup date, when you last updated your profile or site, and your last login.

  1. Signup date for Raven -- 4/19/05. He made the account -- entered his e-mail, got a password, etc.
  2. Last update for Raven -- 4/25/05. Again, the day before Janet's death; same day he created the blog, last time he updated the website. 4/25 was the last day he added to or changed anything at myspace.com, "updated" his information.
  3. Last login for Raven -- 5/3/05. This means he only logged in. Likely to read a siblings journal. Had he updated anything that day, his "last update" would have been 5/3.
What this would appear to mean is that he did put his status as single prior to 4/26/05.

Thoughts?

Raven's labor of love...click below to see the love of his life, apparently.

http://www.pocketpcguy.com/

It gets better. Behold, from the goodness that is archive.org --

Straight out the trailer... (line from a Kid Rock song. Weirdly, my favorite line in the song, too -- "I'm not straight outta Compton, I'm straight out the TRAILER.")

Look on the left side of the page of the old version (straight out...) and note his "hotornot" button.

A clear photo of Janet from the above-mentioned site.

The Abaroa's 2003 Christmas Message. (note, since this is coming off archive.org's file, it's hinky -- it played every other try for me. Look for the buck knife. And yes, no matter if he's guilty of anything or not, he's kind of nauseating. The video ends with a mild argument about how much better he thinks the west is than the east. There is an mpeg xmas video available on the same page -- a different one.)

I love it when I give y'all new stuff. People catch things right and left that just blow by me. I found Raven's voice so grating after three plays that I turned the volume down.

- Raven was described as an "intense & fiery" guy, and it was said that he often got into fights on the field. I was also told that there was an incident last year for which Raven was charged with assault for punching a referee.

JerseyGirl, thank you so much for sharing with us the information you received. And thank you to our lurker who provided it.

So much seems to gel with how Raven wanted the world to perceive him, but the above quote really caught my eye. If true, we know that Raven is capable of violence.
