I have no clue how good a message source this board is, but the more people who read about her case, the better. Hopefully, some of you will go over and add a bit. I kept it brief, did link " The Dark Side" to the case info, and would appreciate some of you keeping the thread current.

I didn't have most of the links about the crime bookmarked, as they are all here.
Please feel free to add info.

Thank you,
ThinkofLaura

THANKS, Golfmom and MAG!

I don't go to other true crime internet sites.. I knew about AMW.com from the TV show.
If you know of other true crime internet BBs, maybe it would be helpful if we got together and posted about her murder on the high-traffic ones which allow links to news articles and to the blog entries.

Any ideas?

Greta interviewed a reporter who said he normally gets off the record info from the police, but in this case they are staying tight-lipped. Did not mention anything about co-workers. Did not report embezzlement, but it was on the crawl below their picture. Focused on last statement by police stating that it was not a *random* crime.

Greta interviewed Mark Furhman going indepth on why police would make that kind of statement based on what they found in the house. All pretty much speculation. Really, less than what we've already discussed here. Talked about search warrant and items removed from house. Hinky that RA said his wife had a gunshot wound.

Whew ...

Is Greta repeated later in the night?
I want to see the segment on Janet, of course, and the one on Cindy Casteel, whose ex-husband is posting on WS about..
I only learned of her being missing for 9 months today.

IF Greta is repeated I can see both segments.

I am not surprised that collectively we have dug deeper than Greta's staff has at this point, but THANKFULLY Janet's case and her photo has now reached A national news outlet.

THANK YOU GRETA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still, that's the best coverage it's gotten in a while, and folks here played a key role in getting it up there. Cyber high-fives all around, y'all!

I've re-posted my last Abaroa entry with a note and a link to this discussion, putting it at the top of the main page of my blog.

The 'Google Girls' here deserve the credit for getting this crime some more publicity.

I'll update the entry again after I watch Greta at 3.

Edited to add... what could they be sitting on that everyone is so "tight-lipped?" Maybe it's all in the interest of building the tightest case possible before making any move.

I posted it at about.com's crime forum. Haven't checked on the thread recently, though.

Have we ruled out the specuation about him changing his name? I saw his parents and grandparents names somewhere in this and it clearly states that one of his grandfathers last names was Abaroa. Somone who lives in the city and state where he says he was born can go look this stuff up at city hall. I use to have to do it for a job I had in college. It's readily available. It would be registered with the clerk of courts, you just have to go to the office in his town of birth. You can look up, birth certificates, death certificates and marriage license there also. Mind you each of those events has to have taken place in the county you are looking in. Just a thought.
It's fairly common in Hispanic families for the oldest son to have the mother's surname, if there is no one else to carry it on. I'm not saying this is what happened here, but it is a possiblilty. Do we know if he is the eldest son? Sorry, but haven't found that info anywhere. I'm not nearly as good at research as the rest of you!

BTW -- starting to see numerous search hits on the blog from the story. This thing may expand.

I do have a niggling worry as it does though that it might put public pressure on the Durham PD. If they are so quiet because they're building the most airtight case possible, I hope it doesn't mess with that.

Eh. For me research is just sharp eyes and dumb luck most of the time. I've been complimented on my research skills a couple of times lately and I'm always mystified when I am. I will say that keeping a wide-open idea of what might fit with what you're searching for will help.

woo hoo!!! it's about time!!! :)
Yay, Greta!!! Greta is great!

I didn't add this in last night . . . .

Mark F. discussed the reasons police would not consider Janet's murder random. They would have had to been convinced that Janet was the intended target and there is no motive for someone else to random go around killing people.

Mark speculated that there would be no evidence theft, robbery, rape.

Vero, one of the google girls discovered Jane't genealogy, but no one has been able to find anything on Raven. We know he has a very large family.

Yes, I was able to find Janet's info on google because I also had her sister's name ... she was interviewed in an article. Plus, they had another sibling die back around 1982 so I had three people's names. If I had more names from Raven's family, I could look his genealogy up too :)
Unfortunately, I haven't seen or read much about his family.

Does anyone know if there had been an arrest in this case that just wasn't reported?? I guess we could call LE?? I do wonder why we haven't heard from any family members in the media besides the sister.... I don't know if I would have the guts to look her up and call her ... :(
I am sure she is grieving still.

Oh, I missed the show last night! Of all nights to miss it and be sick in bed!!! UGH!

Thanks GRETA! :woohoo: Finally someone listened to us!!

Hey, does anyone know where I can find a transcript of the show?
