‘The Skopin maniac’ Rapist who tortured and imprisoned two women returns home after 17 years in prison, amid rumors that he fetched cash prize for TV appearance — Meduza

Rapist who tortured and abused two young women is released from prison.

In 2000, Viktor Mokhov abducted two women, then 14 and 17 years old, and kept them in his basement where he raped and abused them. One of the two women gave birth to two children while living in the basement, with the other prisoner aiding the delivery. Mokhov abandoned these children in the entrances of residential buildings. After his arrest in 2004 and trial, Mokhov served his entire sentence of 16 years and 10 months. Now 70 years old, Mokhov has returned home, but rumors are circulating that a television network paid him for an exclusive talk-show appearance.

Here is the full story of the abductions. The link to the interview video from the article does not work, though.

Here is the "official" video that is a response to the initial interview. (Access unlimited)

I have watched the initial interview, available on the YouTube with English captions. I believe it has good educational value (if one wants to know how a criminal might be walking in the plain sight and never, ever suspected).

(Feel free to remove the interview if it violates any rules. I am not sure, as it is public and contains no violence. It is an hour-long conversation with the criminal who was let out and allowed to be interviewed).
It is limited only by age, one has to be over 18 to watch it.

Both victims gave separate public interviews.

What drew my attention. The kidnapping was easy, under the pretext of giving a lift, and there was another person in the car, a woman resembling a man.

The girls, 14 and 17, were given spiked vodka.

One of the girls was trapped as she went down to the bunker to help her incapacitated (drunk and drugged) friend.

I came to the conclusion that maybe it makes sense to abandon the friend in such a situation, if only to survive as the main witness.

P.S. the shortest distance between the place of abduction (the city where the victims had lived) and Mokhov's house is 99.4 km, or 62 miles (1 hr 33 min).
