I believe you can. I know she did and she wasn't the foreman. She also was surprised no one else reported him. So how many other things slip by because jurors are unsure what to do about this type of situation. As I said she was in the legal field so she knew he was wrong to have lied and caught the lie right away. jmo

Well--yes how many things are skimmed over because jurors are not as informed as they should be? I should have made sure something was done. That was 10 years ago and I know that now, today, I would not let this slip by. I would keep trying to insist that the foreman send a note and if that failed, I would send the judge a note myself.

If she were creeping in toward him, knees bent, right arm swinging like a pendulum, that might give a slight upward thrust to the stab.

I am lefthanded writing and eating and brushing teeth. I SHOOT guns ( no comment just at ranges!) and bowl and bat and throw and test etc etc with my righ hand. I do hope something wierd does not come up with something to put a wrench in stuff for this case! Many lefthanders do many things with right hand like I do, also scissors....right handed!

One of my sister's killers' attorneys requested delays and delays for this mental retardation mini trial putting my 70 something (then) father on hold literally for years as he (we) had to retestify. Once they finally landed on a firm date, my father had a prepaid trip to China which the Judge refused to push back the hearing for ONE WEEK so my Dad could go. After 7 yrs of adjusting his life around proposed dates, it ended up he had to cancel that trip and will likely never go now.

In that hearing the Judge was the only finder of fact, was a known DP opponent, ruled every single thing in favor of the defense and in the end ruled he was mentally retarded (after ruling that no evidence could be submitted of his behavior after the age of 18...meaning the CRIME with it's sophisticated premeditation and cover up could not be admitted as evidence toward this new sentencing for THAT CRIME). Talk about insanity. Millions of dollars...MILLIONS. OUR money. Our system in so many ways is so insanely skewed toward the evil worst of the worst in our culture it's ...inject your own adjective. Scary doesn't do it.

I just know how hard it is to get and keep a murderer in prison. This man, after having spent nearly 2 decades in prison on DEATH ROW almost was put in a position where he would be up for parole in 5 more years I think. I drove by myself out of town to read this Impact Statement and the State's atty told me he thought this was the reason our biased Judge didn't give him a new sentence that could allow for a possible release (this was her last case before she retired...it was so obvious where her head was at).

I am so sorry about your sister's murder. I just read the article. Made me sick. How horrible for the court to not push back the hearing so your father could take his trip.

I had no idea the families were involved in the appelate process. I hate when I hear the "mentally retarded" excuse. Why on earth don't the "mentally retarted" go pat bunnies somewhere. No, the killers that claim that they are retarded, low IQ, whatever go out and kill.

What an horrific process to go through.

That would mean he was standing slightly above her when she stabbed him?

He was 5'9" wasnt he and she was a little shorter right?

If so that is consistent imo.

IIRC, her DMV license states she is 5'6" however there was a discrepancy on her arrest of 2" stating she's 5'4". It was a step down shower though, correct?

As I said, she knew what to do. Most jurors are not aware they can send a note to the judge if there is a problem. LOL, other than asking for pretzels in the jury room. I think it is good that AZ allows questions that the jury can submit to the judge during the trial. Would make it easier for them to feel they could contact her if they felt there was a problem during deliberations. I know when I was on a jury we asked the bailiff if we could ask a question and he went to the judge. We had to return to the courtroom and the question was read and we received our answer.

I think it was good that everyone was able to convince this juror she needed to make a decision. It made it easier for all of you I am sure. jmo

I tried to read all the threads from the last several days but had to give up. It's just pages and pages and pages of speculation about each movement of the killer and what someone thinks happened, along with more opinions, along with imagining each thought Travis had or must have had. Did she raise her right arm? Her left arm? Did she move forward on her right foot? Left foot? Was he sleepy? Angry? Tired? Intrigued? Did she bend at the waist. Did he cross one foot over the other? Did he try and raise his hand to block? On and on and on it goes. And we will never know the exact sequence of events. We'll certainly never know what either of them thought at any point, nor what Travis knew, didn't know, suspected, didn't suspect, thought, didn't think, etc, etc. It will all and forever remain a mystery.

Thank goodness none of that is needed to obtain a conviction or no case would ever conclude.

We are all crazed....what can I tell you?

I haven't been watching the trial, but I have read most of the WS threads on this case. I enjoy reading here to follow the case. The picture order to me tell a huge story.
I see at the beginning Jodi showed Travis the gun. Told him to turn around and face the wall with his hands up(where she would have more control of him by having him not face her). She probably even assured him she wouldn't kill him, if he did what she wanted. She told him to turn around and act like he was taking a shower. In the first picture he turns around and looks like he is praying. In the other ones his face to me shows fear in reactions to something she says to him. Satified that she had taken enough pictures she tells him to sit on the shower floor where he would be the most vunerable. Then I believe she attacked him with the knife to the heart. It was at this point Travis realized she was going to kill him, not just take pictures, and he started to fight back.

Thank you Sulamith. I do think part of my place in these situations is to educate people (and families of victims in particular) about what the system is really like.

These men were not "mentally retarded" until the Supreme Court ruled we cannot execute the mentally retarded. I have joked that if the SC were to rule we cannot execute women, we'd have years of appeals arguing over chromosomes. And I'm not exactly kidding. This mental retardation argument could very likely be used with Jodi once she lands on DR. In fact I'd count on it.

One of my issues in this case and our case is the way the association goes both ways. Now that a vicious killer has been deemed mentally retarded, how does this impact the TRULY mentally retarded? Are people supposed to worry that Johnny with Down Syndrome bagging their groceries might be actually a cold blooded murderer waiting to attack them on the way to their car?

In this case, all truly abused women (and men) should take offense at the characterization this argument throws THEIR way. Do abuse sufferers turn to pathological lying, murder scheming, stealing? It goes both ways ya know. And it's all because someone , somewhere, wants to SAVE A MURDERER. It's just f'ing crazy.

May I ask what you think of Joe Gentz, hired low IQ man wh by many is believed to have been hired to kill Jane Bashara in Michigan case if you have followed?

For those who have been asking if there was ever a plea deal, I can say that there was a Settlement Conference on July 15, 2011. I am going to put in some snippets. To view the entire Minutes entry, go to http://www.courtminutes.maricopa.gov/JONamesearch.asp

and type in Jodi Arias name. The minutes will then come up.

A Settlement Conference is held.

THE COURT FINDS the assigned prosecutor does not have the authority to offer a plea
to the Defendant nor does he have the authority to accept an offer by the Defendant.

9:50 a.m. Court stands at recess.

9:52 a.m. Court reconvenes with respective counsel and Defendant present.
The Court has contacted Bob Shutts of the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and
orders him to be present at 3:30 p.m. for further discussion in this Settlement Conference

3:44 p.m. Court reconvenes with Bob Shutts and Juan Martinez representing the State, Kirk Nurmi and Victoria Washington representing the Defendant, who is present. Dale Baich of the Federal Public Defender’s Office is present to assist in this Settlement Conference.

The Settlement Conference continues at this time with no result.

Yes, I guess the proper question was to ask what you thought of Bob Bashara hiring or intimidating someone with low IQ to carry out killing, but did not want to be leading question, guess I have led you though now! Bondage like fifty shades of brey with bondage club, yep, that is Bob....who has been convicted of putting a hit out for Joe, the low IQ man.But has yet to be charged for Janes death. Folks think charge will come after Joes sentencing.

OOOOOH! WATCHING iD right now, show that a stalker got passwords of phone, and sent text to another to implicat husband!,,,,,like I said and asked last night did Jodi do! On now!ETA...The wife who set him up and got over ten charges of falsification committed suicide in jail...but cannot get kids back as they went to grandparents before truth was found out...so judge said grandparents havecustody. So sad!

Do you think that's really her own work, other than the sig ?

I don't know. I was much more impressed with that one as opposed to her previously listed pieces.

Ok well in that situation I think the person who hired the low IQ person should be qualified for the highest penalty. And the hired person if proven to be mentally impaired should not be subjected to the Death Penalty (but obviously should receive some penalty). What happens now though is backward. People are deemed highly sophisticated murderers then they try to excuse it by claiming they were mentally retarded all along. Doesn't seem the case in this situation though. Seems the perp "used" a mentally deficient person for his own dirty deeds.

Wow...just popped on to that ID show...that's just crazy!

Never crossed anyone's mind that this child is a sex abuse victim and David is loving every minute? I want to report this. To whom can this be reported?

I am using good English with whom and not ending with a preposition.:lol::lol::lol:

I was waiting for my neighbor to get home so I can use her Facebook account to see what else he has on there and gather more info for reporting.

Katie,
Not only did I read the page you linked, but the link on that page to the front page story.
I am at a loss for words for what you and your family have gone through. You have probably heard hundreds of condolences , so let me add to that how I admire the strength, stamina, and bravery you possess.
I sincerely thank you for sharing what must still be a nightmare for you.
Do you mind if I ask what your feelings are toward Anke Dorn? Do you view that situation as a necessary evil?
Odd that this case involves insurance - though differing motives.
Wish I could send you a cyber hug.
