First post, :seeya: so I'm a little nervous...:blushing:
I also did some sleuthing on the Walmart receipt, and I didn't catch up on everything that's been said since the above post, so I hope I'm not too repetitive.
I couldn't quite make out the product description in the screenshot of the Walmart recipe, so I tried to figure out if the twelve digit code might reveal what JA bought that day.
Here's the screenshot of the receipt.
Now, according to
this site, the 12-digit code is the UCP code.
There are sites that allow you to look up UCP codes, but most of them are based on data that users supply and are nowhere near complete. I found no matches to the exact 12 digits on the receipt, sadly. I even tried adding all the numbers between 0-9 to the end of the code, because one site I checked said that 13-digit UPC codes are common, but Walmart only prints the first 12 digits onto the receipts.
Still no hits. Then again, the receipt is from 2008, so maybe the product has been discontinued since then, or nobody entered that particular product into those databases so far.
However, apparently the first 6 digits of a UCP code identify the manufacturer.
When I typed those first 6 digits 007050 into the
UCPmachine, it spit out a long, long list of Neutrogena products.
So, apparently JA truly bought some sort of cosmetics that day. Does anyone know if Neutrogena or an associated firm produce hair colour? I'm not in the US, so I'm not entirely sure if they do, here we don't have any Neutrogena hair colour.
Also, if spagrl checked with a Walmart employee, they surely know more about the product descriptions on their receipts, so in the end they're probably more reliable than my tossing numbers at an internet machine, but I thought I'd post what I had found out.
