It could have been a possibility that 2nd degree murder was part of the charges, which is still not self-defense. 2nd degree lacks the premeditation aspect of 1st degree. Had she gone right to a lawyer after the killing she *might* have been able to have 2nd degree murder part of the charges. Not saying definitely, but certainly more of a chance than she did not having a lawyer. I won't be surprised if her lawyers argue for the judge to add that charge at the end of the trial, before the jury gets the case for deliberations. It happened in 2 murder cases in my area. Neither killer benefited by it since in each case the jury decided 1st degree murder.

I feel as premeditation has been established i.e. rental car (yeah I know maybe she didn't want to put mileage on her own car).
having a gun AND a knife in the bathroom.

that is really not a smart idea at all--sleeping in your --car especially if you are a woman alone. too bad some serial killer didn't abduct her & do her in...blech..

She always seemed ready for an attack though since they found weapons "well hidden" in the rentals..lol

Welcome Here_now :Welcome1:

I think the Neutrogena may have been the facial cleaner. Not sure they make hair color? Maybe someone else would know.

No, here_now has it right. The manufacturer code for the 2 items below the facial cleanser correspond to Neutrogena. The facial cleanser is listed separately. Interesting. Maybe it wasn't hair color after all.

I watched it the other night, too. Such a sad story. Makes you mad, too, that the system failed these poor people twice. jmo

Absolutely!!! I was FURIOUS the last 18 minutes or so!!!! It was sickening, saddening and shocking how bad the system failed them!!

On a happier note, I visited the website after watching the film and was so glad to see that David and Kate got their bill passed! What ANGELS those 2 are!! No wonder everyone wanted to claim them as their own parents.

yes but had she been sound asleep in her car at a deserted rest stop perhaps a clever serial killer could have gotten the jump on her ....??..

I'm sorry, but I don't see the purchase of 2 facial cleansers and 2 boxes of hair dye as pointing to a second person. She might just have needed that much for herself. She has a lot of hair, and maybe the facial cleanser was to clean up the blood afterwards.

the facial cleaner would clean the air dye stains from her face and neck that she would get dying her hair on the go like that

That reminds me. I have to get my glass of wine tonight. I've already missed two nights.

Its after 5 here so party has started!

Has anyone seen that Tricia is doing this case on her Websleuths radio show (online and call in to listen or ask questions) She was going to do this case, I think last week, but last weeks show was cancelled. Show is 8 pm on Sundays.

Rental car guy said there was a man there when she rented the car but he didn't know if they were together. I remember that from the testimony. It was vague and didn't get any clearer. There is no evidence JA was traveling with anyone else and no evidence that she made purchases for anyone else. No one else was at the murder scene. Just JA and the victim.

Wonder who it was that took Jodi the 90 miles to get to the car rental place? Bet it was her mom!

The crazed physo :pullhair: probably sleeps with one eye open or for that matter probably doesn't sleep at all. :twocents:

Interesting find! I wonder if this was Travis's first time seeing JA with brown hair and what his thoughts were on that she dyed it before coming. She obviously would have still smelled of hair dye...hmmm :waitasec:

Hmm, when would Jodi have time for a fresh close shave?

First post, :seeya: so I'm a little nervous...:blushing:
I also did some sleuthing on the Walmart receipt, and I didn't catch up on everything that's been said since the above post, so I hope I'm not too repetitive.

I couldn't quite make out the product description in the screenshot of the Walmart recipe, so I tried to figure out if the twelve digit code might reveal what JA bought that day.
Here's the screenshot of the receipt.

Now, according to this site, the 12-digit code is the UCP code.
There are sites that allow you to look up UCP codes, but most of them are based on data that users supply and are nowhere near complete. I found no matches to the exact 12 digits on the receipt, sadly. I even tried adding all the numbers between 0-9 to the end of the code, because one site I checked said that 13-digit UPC codes are common, but Walmart only prints the first 12 digits onto the receipts.
Still no hits. Then again, the receipt is from 2008, so maybe the product has been discontinued since then, or nobody entered that particular product into those databases so far.

However, apparently the first 6 digits of a UCP code identify the manufacturer.
When I typed those first 6 digits 007050 into the UCPmachine, it spit out a long, long list of Neutrogena products.
So, apparently JA truly bought some sort of cosmetics that day. Does anyone know if Neutrogena or an associated firm produce hair colour? I'm not in the US, so I'm not entirely sure if they do, here we don't have any Neutrogena hair colour.

Also, if spagrl checked with a Walmart employee, they surely know more about the product descriptions on their receipts, so in the end they're probably more reliable than my tossing numbers at an internet machine, but I thought I'd post what I had found out.

Apparently the facial cleansers were Noxzema Triple Clean Pads...must have been a two for one sale. And the other one does appear to be Neutrogena product of some sort; again maybe she got a two for one deal.

As if the "well hidden" weapons would be much help in an emergency. And sleeping in a small rental car? They don't even have tinted windows.

It's only a three hour trip from Redding, CA to Lodi, CA her first stop for gas on the 2nd. She picked the rental up a about 9am and purchased gas in Lodi around 9pm. That's 12 hours and a tank full of gas later. Sounds as if she went home first. She purchased the hair color the following day. jmo

Would be interesting to know where Jodi's car was while she was on the road in the rental. Maybe it was at her mom's.

Also interesting to know where her rental car was while she was murdering Travis.

I thought so too, but the knives would have been close by IMO.

Apparently not. What we thought was hair dye purchase was actually purchase of Neutrogena product.
