So here's my takeaway --

If Chris Hughes is a witness, he should not be contacting other witnesses to discuss anything about the case. Same goes for Gus, as he was apparently listed as a defense witness, he should not have been discussing the case with Chris. This might be grounds to exclude either witness from testifying -- but I think that would be up to the judge to determine if their testimony was tainted by the contact. IMO this could potentially hurt the defense more than the prosecution because obviously Chris was not called as a state witness but defense might still want to call Gus.

I really have no idea what the defense is trying to accomplish other than preserving points for appeal.

I am curious what that witness Gus was insinuating when he said it could hurt her (jodi) or free her and then changed it to 'it could free her or hurt her' after Chris Hughes knocked some sanity into the guy by reminding him that Jodi had already confessed to the cold blooded killing.

It was probably nothing, which is why no one was returning his calls. Even if it was some bombshell info from JA, her words carry about as much weight as an Olsen twin.

That is not IMO, that is fact, lol.

Isabelle, it was said in the testimony. Gus Searcy received the text from CH on Jan 15 @ 1015am (this year).

What Hughes said is that he had not spoken to Prosecution for three years, not Searcy!

Ooohh, getting to see some of Juan ripping apart Gus Searcy!!! Gus is cocky and arrogant, even while getting taken down! Apparently TruTV has got a totally different broadcast today than TruTV-West. Normally it's the same, only a 3 hr. time delay...

They are saying this is much ado about nothing. One guy called it a leap. The host called it a quantum leap that the prosecution would use a go between to talk to GS for them. :sigh:

After seeing and hearing Searcy in person I can clearly see why they did not return his calls.

I want so see Searcy on The People's Court but I will need some degreaser first.

He will probably be the one dancing on the table. lol

I wish I had seen his testimony. I'm sure someone will put it up on Youtube.

I was thinking the EXACT thing. Her demeanor seems so different when the jury is not present.

Yeah, I wonder how they felt seeing it for the first time on LIVE STREAM today? (You know some of them were watching!)

:floorlaugh: OMG, he reminds me of one of my annoying uncles.

BBM

What was her complaint about the jury?

She claimed to of seen or heard a juror say or do something. The judge called them and that was about it.

And once Chris Hughes called the defense attorney a liar and mentioned the forged letters I thought holy $hit! Didn't the judge rule those phony letters were admissable? So how would that testimony be allowed in?

This isn't in front of the jury. So no harm no foul if the letters get mentioned in Court.

They just showed a snippet of his being cross examined by the prosecutor. It seems that Searcy was so ticked off at the prosecutors for not calling him back, that he would tailor his testimony for whoever called him to be a witness first. :waitasec:

The witness lists are usually filed and are a public record so there should not be a problem with Sky and Chris being told who was on the list. I really don't understand what the basis for the misconduct allegations is unless it's witness tampering.

They said this text message was in January so I'm assuming it was after the trial started. I don't know if Chris Hughes was on either witness list, but the witnesses are typically instructed not to communicate about the case with anyone else and in this case would be instructed not to watch the trial since it's televised. I do not know if this is what normally happens in Arizona though.

I agree with this. I don't really think he was a surprise witness out of the dark anyway. I remember seeing GS' name in court minutes and iirc they weren't recent court minutes from the last month. Wouldn't surprise me to learn that news travels fast in those circles and as I posted earlier I haven't seen the Judge admonishing potential witnesses as much as I've seen other Judges do in the past.

i don't like it at all. especially in a DP case. this case should progress to its conclusion without all these breaks and days off or they shouldn't have started it until that was possible. i don't think it's fair to EITHER side. i also don't like this jury running around loose with all this free time.

if this trial had taken place in texas, it would've lasted maybe 2 weeks (tops) and been over with.

I couldn't agree more. What's up with this AZ court? This is crazy.

"Gus is a sensationalist and he loves the attention", Chris Hughes.

"He also is a lousy proposer and is creepy and unromantic", Anita Richman.

  • #2,219
i feel it is going to backfire on the prosecution that he continually verbally assaults witnesses. Just my opinion.

This was under seal. Juan didn't know what it was about but tried to be prepared and he guessed right.

And something must have been leaked to him (Juan) or headed him (Juan) in the right direction, because of all the possibilities, how would he (Juan) boil it down to "it's probably going to be all about Gus and I better have Chris get down here from Utah". Something must have given Juan a heads-up.
