WHAT?!?? That's it??!!! What is this guy doing there? So pointless.

I don't feel sorry for Gus at all. I think he has his own self serving agenda and it doesn't include seeking justice for the victim, Travis Alexander.

I agree.....I don't think Juan has to say another thing. Jury can see this difference in the way Gus answers the defense and the way he answer the prosecutor

My latest prayer is for enunciation. I just heard 'You talked about your a$$' instead of 'You talked about - you were asked'.

Please. God. Enunciate.

Took a beating? Ummm kinda!!

  • #605
This whole testimony proved what? What a waste of court time.

  • #606
I expected Jodi to have a comb over today so everyone could be sure and see her poor pitiful me face.

  • #607
GS sure has a keen memory for what she was wearing on all the occasions that he saw her, but cannot recall where it was he saw her (Las Vegas?, Oklahoma City?). That speaks a lot for how he sees/feels about her IMO

  • #608
Yes but sadly its not about what you like. Its about how it comes off to the jury. If the defense were doing the same thing people would be complaining. Its not professional IMHO. If a DA can't get his point across with comming off as a <redacted> than he or she needs to find a new line of work.

Oh I dont think that means that the jury will be turned off David. A lot of people like to see a liar exposed.

I have had very hard hitting prosecutors on cases where I was a juror. It never entered into the verdict in fact I admired them when they exposed things. In fact the Judge will tell the jury not to hold it against either lawyer if they disaprove of their behavior. This verdict will be based upon the overwhelming amount of evidence entered.

IMO

PART 5--During the phone call, did Jodi identify who she was speaking to? "yes, Travis Alexander".
--"once it got heated she excused herself, stepped outside and went outside for half an hour" when she came back she was shaking and crying.
--Gus is asked if he ever saw Jodi get mad at Travis. Gus says "no".
--Gus later saw Jodi when she was moving to northern California. She had had her phone stolen and Gus helped her get a new phone. He saw her for approximately ten minutes.

CROSS EXAMINATION

--re: prepaid legal. It is a MLM business? "yes". Martinez is asking Gus how it works. You profit from all the people that sign up. There are a very few number of people that are at the very top of the business. Those people are making a profit from everybody below them. By being at the top of the pyramid you make money from people below. Gus does not want to answer the question about the people at the top making the money from the people below. Gus does not want to say it is a "pyramid". He will say it is MLM. Martinez now calls it a "triangle". Gus says it is "more like a circle". Martinez is asking who is making the money?
--Gus says that there are people making hundreds of thousands of dollars without signing anybody up.
--Gus is being what Martinez says is "non responsive" and is not answering the questions.
--Was Jodi "making a lot of money?", she hadn't signed any big businesses.
--Gus was grooming her.
--Jodi had somebody above her, if she signed somebody up the person above her would make money.
--Martinez is asking about "the big money", the people on the top make money from people beneath them.
--Gus had gone to Arizona for a local business briefing and met Jodi there. The first time he met Jodi he saw her for 45min to and hour. He spent 10-15 minutes the first night.
--The second time Gus met Jodi was at a national convention in Oklahoma or Las Vegas, doesn't remember when or what location. Martinez is asking why Gus won't answer his questions. Gus doesn't remember because it was five years ago.
--The purpose of meeting with Jodi at the convention was to "check in with her, to see how she was doing". Gus spoke to Jodi for 2-3 hours. Gus was a presenter at a break out session. Jodi was not at that session.
--During the whole convention, Gus saw Jodi 3-4 times. Gus says that Jodi was dressed professionally.
--Martinez asking about the third time they met. After the convention at the next convention would be the next time.
--Where did you see her at the convention? Gus does not remember where the convention was.
--There are after parties in the evenings where people go to "blow off steam".
--During the third time, Gus saw Jodi 4-5 times. He was a presenter. He presented on the second day, the day after the executive meeting.
--Gus presented at the other event and saw Jodi once again. During the day everyone is expected to dress professionally.
--re: personal meetings. The mobile home was in Las Vegas. Jodi stayed two days, one night.
--Gus saw Jodi in Pasadena, CA. Gus had arranged to meet Jodi. They met late morning, 1000-1400 hours. "somewhere in there". Gus gave her a telephone because she needed one. It was a "Helio". Gus doesn't remember the day this took place.

REDIRECT

--Nurmi now asking about the "pyramid" structure.
--Gus is asked if he personally profitted from Jodi. He says he did not make a dime.
--There are different teams within PPL. Jodi was on Chris Hughes team.
--Gus did not have direct access to how much money Jodi was making.
--re: meeting in Vegas or OK City, Gus was asked about Jodi's attire. People are expected to dress professionally during the day. Not everyone always adhered to that during the day.
--re: after parties in the evening. It was "nightclubish" attire. There was alcohol at the parties.
--Did Gus ever see Jodi dress inappropriately at these parties? Gus says that he never saw Jodi dressed inappropriately or acting sexual or being drunk or out of control and he never saw her angry.
--re: Gus spending time with Jodi in her motor home. On those days Jodi wore slacks and turtleneck/long sleeves. It was appropriate for the weather at the time.

I never said he wasn't. That doesn't mean the prosecutor needs to yell. He's obviously frustrated and losing his composure. It's not impressive to me. If he was able to maintain his calm and not come off as so hostile, it would work out better for him.

Not necessarily!! Some jurors have been spotted rolling their eyes - probably bc they can feel his frustration!! Maybe they recognize Juan wants to cut through this pointles bull***** and get justice! After-all, if JA didn't put everyone through the damn ringer with all of her stories of what happened & just owned up to it, no-one would be here now dealing with this!!

Until you've been to trial yourself, let alone sat up there at the table with your client(s) and attorney(s) and gone through all the motions you may want to remember you may not know what works best... I'm not an "expert" but believe me, some jurors appreciate Juan's technique.

Really?!? The DT wants to call a character witness to testify to her clothing choices, and they choose this 🤬🤬🤬-bag?

Wow. Just....well......Wow.

I don't feel sorry for Gus at all. I think he has his own self serving agenda and it doesn't include seeking justice for the victim, Travis Alexander.

I don't disagree with you, but I think the way Juan handled the witness might elicit some feelings of sympathy from the jury and that's not a great thing for the prosecution.

It won't matter either way because this is the first witness and this is going to be along trial. Unless Juan behaves this way with every witness ....

  • #613
I don't get it. At all. I'm sure the DT has a purpose, so I guess I'm slow here, but could someone please tell me what the point of all of this GS stuff was, other than for my amusement? TIA.

IMO trying to get the upset JA... after fussing with Travis stuff in. Didn't work too good.

  • #614
Well, the only thing I can figure out is they needed Gus Searcy to be a witness to get in that he saw Jodi crying after taking a phone call reportedly from Travis. And that's it.That is the only thing I can see that might even remotely play into self defense-- and that's pretty remote, imo.

Unless I missed something?

And she was so afraid of him that she went to see him.

Jury Question 'Why'd we have to waste our time listening to this $hit from this flimflam witness?'

  • #616
Why in the heck did he get her a phone?

  • #617
who said that Jodi stopped to see Gus on the way to Arizona? wasn't it one of the Hughes?

  • #618
good questions so far

  • #619
Interesting juror questions -- like they're thinking of signing up
