Might be going for- he made her change religions.

I hope if they try that angle - then Juan gets her ex-boyfriend...Mr Hidey-face (I forgot his name) on the stand and tries to rebut that.

Daniel Freeman . .. . met TA 2 yrs prior to his mission - he went to Canada 04-06 proseltizing . . . .

PPL - once he moved to AZ they became better friends than before he left for his mission- he lived with TA after he returned from his mission

Baptizing after proseletizing . . . . lifelong member of the church . . . .DF has been involved in baptism . . . . they give up things in their life (ie: drinking/smoking) . . . talk to the Bishop - justified by the way you live your life. . . . ceremony goes with it - talks - short speech about their baptism . . . .receiving holy ghost . . . . walk down to water - person baptising holds them in the water - holds their right arm to the square -- dunk under from waist up . . . . to be able to baptise - you have to hold proper priesthood - worthy holder then you are able to baptise . . .. Priesthood holder vs. Elder . . . lesser Aarronic priesthood . . . deacons & priests - age 12-18 , At age 18 - you become an Elder able to baptise and hold priesthood as well . . . . TA was an Elder in the church - someone would have to come with idea living with Mormon principles - including Law of Chastity - he wasn't present when JA was baptised but he mentioned he introduced her to Book of Mormon - didn't have any thoughts or ideas that TA was not living up to the principles of the church . . . .TA's peer group was made up largely up of members of the church . . . . Grand Canyon/Sedona trip - they were acting as a couple . . . undercurrent couple with a little tension -

Mr. A and JA acting as a couple - Grand Canyon/Sedona trip - don't remember any tensions between them @ all . . . behaviors consistent with them being a couple . . . stopped in Sedona to eat - small resteraunt to eat - TA joked to the waitress in a flirtatious manner . . . JA was sitting @ table @ the time. . . . couldn't tell if she was upset but she seemed uncomfortable . . . . Summer 07 - trip to Grand Canyon was weeks or months later than the Havisupai(sic?) . . . . don't remember the exact time

That trip sleeping arrangements - day trip - early to Grand Canyon and hiked around and stopped in Sedona - no sleeping. DF was not understanding TA was also dating Lisa at that time . . .. no tension - aside from the

Point in time where you became aware TA were (?) . . . . once we had - after I moved out TA made a lot more friends in the Ward he would have UFC fights on tv @ his house - there was a group of friends there - on fight nights JA would be there -2 groups not mixing . . . . .during that time - after the trips - later that fall nd winter - hung out with TA and JA separately but I knew they were hanging out together . . . they were separated but not officially split up - talking to TA said he was going to talk to JA and shortly thereafter JA moved back to Calif.

Times when TA an JA spent time together - it was just the 2 of them . . . . don't think a lot of people knew about that - some select few - others mayhave known but TA didn't talk about it . . . . . TA and JA took 2 trips - one was day trip - took lot pics . . . . around the Convention a church history site tour for 4 or 5 days . . . . road tripto the convention then around after that.

Did you ever think JA was disingenious to the Mormon Faith as a way to get TA?

Defence Case-in-chief

Day 3

DANIEL FREEMAN
--Continuation of the direct exam from yesterday.
--Daniel met Travis two years prior to his mission from 2004-2006 when he went to Canada. Daniel met Travis a couple of years before the mission and then after he returned from the mission.
--Daniel lived with Travis for 3-4 months after returning from the mission in Canada.
--Nurmi is reviewing Daniel's mission work with the church & has been involved with a baptism in the church.
--Baptism is done at the end of a process which includes giving up drinking, smoking, etc. to have to prove to the church that they are worthy. Justify to the world that you have changed.
--Baptismal ceremony includes talks, the missionaries and friends will have short speeches about what it means. The person being baptised is held by the arm, the person baptised is immersed in waist deep water.
--How would one be qualified to baptize a person? You would have to be an elder in the church and hold the proper priesthood, if you are a worthy then you can
--Two priesthoods, lesser and greater. If you are an elder you can baptise and give the holy ghost.
--Travis was an elder in the church.
--To be one you would have to live in accordance to Morman principles such as the vow of chastity.
--Jodi was baptised before Daniel met her.
--Daniel is asked if he had any reason to believe that Travis was not living up to the principals of the church.
--Travis' peer group was largely made up of members of the church.
--Re: trip to Grand Canyon/Sedona, Daniel doesn't remember any tension between Jodi and Travis on the trip. When they stopped in Sedona to eat, Travis made a joking comment to the waitress about him and Jodi not dating. Daniel thought this was flirtatious towards the waitress. Daniel couldn't tell if Jodi was upset but she wasn't sure how to take the comment.
--Re: Trip to Grand Canyon, it was after the trip to Havisupi (september?), Daniel believes it to be a day trip, no need for sleeping arrangements.
--Re: Grand Canyon trip, Daniel was not of the understanding that Travis was also dating Lisa Andrews.
--Reiterated there was no tention between Travis and Jodi.
--Daniel became aware of Travis and Jodi no longer dating, Travis would have UFC fight nights at his house and Jodi was not there. There were two groups of friends that did not mix.
--Daniel was aware of Travis and Jodi still spending time together, he heard about them spending time together, he knew there was tension and Daniel saw them seperately.
--Travis told Daniel they had not officially split up but Travis was going to talk to her and then she moved back to California.
--Did Daniel know of Jodi and Travis travelling together? "yes", they went down to the baloon festival. Also went on a church history tour.
--Did Daniel ever have any concerns that Jodi's interest in the Mormon church or her Baptism was disingenuous?

Oh I get it. 20 minutes of building up testimony because Travis made a flirtatious comment to a waitress. Gotcha.

I can see jodi very clearly today

NG said last night that Jodi is beautiful. I guess pretty is as pretty does, cause she looks like dogface from Florida to me! Wish we were all with you Katie!!

Glad you made it. I guess you can explain why they want to use your faith to trash TA? We all know he wasn't perfect in the tenants of his faith. Can we move on?!

No idea. I agree with the other attorney who posted (sorry- trying to remember names). I think they are trying to hold him to the Mormon standard of things and trying to show he may have fallen short.

But, goodness gracious, even in the Mormon faith, he would have always been loved and welcomed and cherished. And, it looks to me like he was trying to decide between two worlds. To me, it looks like he was able to live the Mormon lifestyle with support when JA wasn't around, but when she was, he did things he wasn't probably proud of.

It makes me so sad for his family to have to go through all this. It is my understanding they are Mormon too and probably didn't know a lot of this before the murder. How awful to have to sit through this.

Mormon youth do mess up. Everyone messes up. Get over it. He was a good guy. He was trying, like we all are. Most of the times where Mormon youth don't follow the standards as far as sex, they went to far because they were in love, etc. and "messed up." But, here, I don't think Travis had a fair chance. This was more than sex. This seems to be an obsession with someone who was bent on getting her way. He was outgunned with her. Particularly as Mormon kid, who did serve a mission, to me (JMO), she was far more sophisticated and conniving than he could have handled....or anyone, for that matter. It makes me very sad to see them try to bash his character. So sad. This isn't even a fair match to begin with.

Hope I am making sense....venting!

Didn't he say yesterday that he only hung out alone with Jodi once, and now he's saying that he did it often?

  • #332
This must be so very very hard for Travis's family. To watch his alleged friend pass judgment upon him in open Court.

Newbie question - do you all have to hit "refresh" to see all new posts or do they just show up for you (like facebook)? I keep refreshing. I am sure there is probably an easier way!

Hit the F5 key

Damn straight!

Once when my grandma was in her late 80's my brother made a joke about a guy named Dick Hertz. My grandma said; Who's Dick Hertz? Of course I had to yell; Mine does, mine does!!! My sister almost squirted her iced tea out her nose.

:giggle:

LOL, try to keep it under control today, Steely!

I think their religion is very relevant to both sides. For the Prosecution, it shows the lengths Jodi went to to be "like" Travis (her conversion) and how she took his rejection of her for not being good enough/marriage material. It goes to motive. For the defense, they are trying to use it to show how "deep" and committed she was to the church, and how badly Travis treated her for indulging in the same behaviors he did (each with the other) and how he had the charisma and power to mentally enslave her (their take on it, not mine). All JMO.

Either way she looks guilty.
