All this boxed-wine talk is making me :floorlaugh:.
Let me dispell a few myths.
Boxed wine can be cheap and it can be bad, however, some Australian wineries are upping the game with quality wines packaged in this format.
The idea of someone buying a BOX of wine to take it home and get rip-roaring wasted is pretty far-fetched. Most boxes contain the equivalent of 4+ bottles of wine. The average person would vomit welll before consuming that amount. If one really wanted to go on a bender, a cheap fifth of vodka or gin would provide more "bang for the buck" as they say.
One usually buys boxed wine for:
1. A crowd/party (I was the director of a non-profit art group...thus my boxed wine knowledge).
2. A single drinker. This may seem counter-intuitive, but a single one-glass-per-night wine drinker would end up throwing much wine (and $$$) away when buying bottles. The boxed mylar-bag delivery system, allows a
light drinker to enjoy one glass per night, while the wine remains "fresh".
~Most~ people who enjoy wine do so with food, friends, and family.
I have to say that in this case I'm "on the fence". I also have no problem with mom having a glass of vino with dinner or perhaps to unwind after the kiddos are in bed.
Cheers!
