The Talent show

  • #361
My head is swimming from reading about Kyron, and I've barely made a dent in the information that's here--so please pardon me if this point has already been covered:

If Kyron is like most kids, and he's been told that he's going to to have to leave school early for a doctors appt--and he knows he's scheduled to perform in a talent show with one or more classmates at that same time, then he would probably feel that he needed to say to someone else involved in his number "say look, I'm not going to be able to do the talent show. I've got to go to the doctor."

If the co-performer didn't know in advance that Kryon would miss the talent show, then Kyron must not have told him. What this says to me is that Kyron expected to be in school for the full day, and expected to perform in the show. MHOO.

Or he might have expected not to miss a full day because of the doctor's appointment, and thought that he'd be back in time for the talent show.

That's possible. Or, since all we've ever heard, the only statement we have attributed to Kyron that morning is "I'm going to see a cool electric project." Not "My mom is taking me to the dr's appointment."

And there is a lot of doubt about that statement, considering the source.

The source was a child, and I am not willing to say a child is deliberately lying about the last time he talked to a missing child. In order for me to start to doubt the child's statement, I'd have to start determining why the child would lie, and that place is dark and ugly.

Yes, all we've ever heard. Doesn't mean that is the entire truth about what happened. The entire Skyline community has been very tight lipped about who said what that morning. There may well be a lot more that we simply don't know about. Yet.

I do believe that as the facts come out about TP's true relationship with Kyron, his statement will be discredited--and his whole claim of being Kyron's best friend will likewise face much scrutiny. Sad that his grandmother, against the request of Sheriff Staton, sought the limelight instead of protecting her grandson; sad that she exposed him to said scrutiny by seeking out the media to put TP on camera--the worst scrutiny hasn't even been applied to his statements yet, and I truly pity this child when all of the things he's said are proved to be unfounded. THAT is my opinion only.

Why would any adult need to discredit this child's thinking about a 'true' relationship? If this boy thinks he is Kyron's best friend, than so be it - what's in it for an adult to critically attack this child's thinking? I don't get it! TIA moo mho hoo

IMO, LE have somehow discounted TP's statement or statements, perhaps due to more witnesses or a more credible witness. JMO.

You may very well be right. What you suggest is certainly better than attacking or discrediting a child's thinking about a friendship, I highly doubt LE would stoop to such critical attacking. moo mho

I didn't realize LE discounted what this child said. I thought they haven't spoken about it. Like so many things....the Dr appt, what the teacher might have truly heard, whether the mfh was real, etc etc etc.

Well I bet the LE weren't too impressed that this child was aired publicly on TV AFTER they were told not to..... they may not have been upset with the child - I bet my last dollar that the LE were NOT happy with the adult that made this decision. IMO

But why didn't Kyron say anything to Kaine about the talent show all that week?

My husband never knows about the daytime talent shows because I unload their backpacks. We live nearby (although I'm not sure it matters, most schools are like this) and let me tell you, they send about a thousand notes home about the talent show and the kids are always so excited and are even told to remind 'mom or dad' or whoever to go. It's a huge deal to a 2nd grader and I would be shocked if Terri didn't know about it. I'm also guessing during the science fair tour there were posters up about it. That's what our school does - has these posters and flyers on the classroom doors as reminders to parents when they drop off the kiddos and notes in the backpacks that say 'please join us at 1 PM for our talent show!'

Yes, exactly. I think TH stood in the stairwell after pulling her truck around to the access road (as we now know the side door was open from the outside). She knew he would have to run up that way at the first bell and either pre-arranged he would exit with her at the bell, exit on his own at the bell, or she simply grabbed him and said 'hey Kyron we have a doctor's appointment but we'll be RIGHT back."

I think she purposely didn't tell Kaine about the talent show and didn't care he might be missed because she didn't seem to mind taking him from a school in the first place and hoping to place the blame on the school. IMO.

Those of us with kids near this age, they talk constantly about the talent shows, their parts even if they are the sun standing in a corner with the moon, and even if they aren't in it at all. My point is, I am not a very active volunteer parent, my kids are barely in anything, and I always know about the talent shows.

I doubt it personally because IMO teachers of small children should and usually do check their numbers automatically several times a day, not just when it's time to take roll officially. Just a quick, "is everyone here, can we start?", checking if every desk has a child in it, did everyone come back from recess, lunch, etc. . Empty desks tend to stand out in the classroom, at least if his desk wasn't placed with unused desks in the back of the room.

On any other day I'd agree with you, hands down.

No matter who had the truck that day, and this is O/T because it's not about the talent show, :) Why was Kyron supposed to take the bus home when TH or KH could have picked him up in the truck along with the sci project? I still have yet to hear a reporter ask him that question, and I'd love to hear his answer. I think the reporters have missed the boat a lot in this saga, but that's a whole 'nother story.

There are a LOT of questions not getting asked.

IMO if the teacher marked Kyron absent at 10:00, and IMO she did so because he was not in class. She would not therefore expect him to be in the talent show, because he was absent. IMO LE has questioned Terri if Kyron was supposed to be in the talent show. IMO I can't see how the school would be CYA, regardless if Kyron was scheduled to be in the talent show or not, he was marked absent, because he was, at 10:00 at the time roll was taken, why would there be a question as to why he was not present for the talent show?

Well, i'll just add this to my list of questions I'd like answered.

When was Kyron marked absent?

Did the teacher actually call roll? And at what time?

What is the system in place for marking children absent? Is it electronic (therefore date/time stamped) or the old-fashioned paper report?

When was the front office notified of his absence?

So 337 posts, and I still don't know if the talent show was really confirmed for Kyron. :(

Possibly. But that doesn't equate to TP being a liar.

Then why didn't Kaine and Desiree know of his participation in the show?

Italics by me.

Yep, Gwen. I think there's a lot more that we don't know about yet, at the school and elsewhere. And that not knowing is what keeps me on the fence. I'm tired of the fence.
