I have come up with a couple of ideas to help find out who George Brody actually is. One is to contact the family members of the woman that he lived with before Waters. She had a very unique last name and there are some people with the same name living in the Bay area, so I assume that they are relatives of hers. My other thought is to try and find a woman that GW worked with named Seka that Brody attempted to woo into becoming a follower. I am going to start with Water's workplace and the doctors who I can identify from the "Box from Hell" that knew Waters. They may be able to give me a last name for this Seka. I will keep you all posted.

How much would it cost to file a request for his FBI files, maybe they have records about his and his "followers."

Doogie, I found the following from the California Board of Registered Nursing:
Kukoda, Margaret Mary
Registered Nurse
License Number 58266
License Status: Revoked
Expiration date: April 30, 1958
Issue date: January 31, 1947
County: San Francisco
Wow, this is great! I didnt know you could look that up, but (duh) it makes sense you can. If she was having those problems starting in 53, I wonder if that was about the time she and Body hooked up. It does make you wonder what was happening in those years.

Does anyone know if it would be normal to take 5 years to get your license revoked or would it be more likely something else happened in the interm?

not to throw yet another twist into the puzzle, but according to time magazine synanon started in 1958 in santa monica... we've been looking to connect brody with synanon, but if margaret was a nurse, maybe she was connected instead. I think there is an obit in there from when dederich died, too - in new jersey??

i wish i could read the rest of these articles!!!

I was wondering if there were any obituaries placed in the local SF papers when Margaret and GB passed away. Often times they may mention surviving relatives names and where they live.

Since obituaries are usually purchased by the surviving family, it is unlikely that either one of them had anything in the newspapers about their deaths. Brody would have been the one to place an obituary for Margaret and that would have meant that he spent money that he could have otherwise kept, so that does not fit his personality. Waters would have been the one to place an obituary for Brody, and he wouldn't have done it because of the secrecy that they both tried to maintain.

Here is a time story on a "giordano" boxer from san francisco in 1933

I dont have access to read the whole thing or see if there are any pics, so I have no idea if its useless info or not...
This Giordano fought under the name Young Corbett and fought out of Fresno his whole career. The timeframe is right, but is not the same guy as Bobby Wolgast.

I was rereading the article about Margaret's arrest and I realized that some of what I had said about her medical career was incorrect. The article states:

"Margaret Kukoda, 35, ...a former Oakland Naval Hospital nurse...
...Miss Kukoda, now employed at Letterman General Hospital..."

The article is dated January 1953, so she was employed at Letterman at that time. She had already left the Navy by this time, so she was working there as a civilian. Evidently, she served in a Navy hospital in Oakland prior to that.

Doogie, Is there any information in the BFH the room numbers that GW and GB rented at the hotels? Maybe Joe might recall this?

You are correct about that sordid story, Masterj. Phil Giordano was his name. Another Waterbury mayor-Joseph Santopietro, was arrested for more mundane political corruptions a few years earlier.

This was posted on the Billy Smolinski board. Wonder if any relation to Anthony?

Bill Giordano, 59, was charged Monday with 28 counts of sexual molestation of a child who is 14 or older after a woman, now in her 20s, recently disclosed the alleged abuse to her therapist.

Parents, sports boosters and student athletes were quick to support the veteran volleyball and track coach after school officials sent home a letter about the arrest.

Prosecutors say Giordano approached the girl to babysit his son in 1991, but the job turned into weekly sexual encounters, during and after school, San Mateo County prosecutor Melissa McKowan said during a brief court appearance Monday.

Here is another mention of the name in Crime in the news board. This one is closer to home!

Sherlock, would it be possible to trace this Giordano back to see if he traces back to any of the other Giordano's we have located?

We know that at least some of them were fighting in Calif. at one point, so if they settled there, they may have had children. Might be helpful in either ruling them in or out.
