This is the place for any thoughts and theories on how someone got into the house and/or how they got Nancy out of the house.

There are a lot of possibilities and we don't have a lot of information on which to base these theories, but here are my best guesses.

1. He entered through an open (or unlocked) window. A lot of people like to sleep with one or more windows open. Problem with this theory: We don't know NG's preference.
2. He had a key. I'm sure the authorities have checked into who had, or might have had, keys to the house. Problem with this theory: We don't know who had keys that could have had them copied.
3. He entered through a sliding glass door. Some say these doors are easier targets than standard doors.
4. He entered through the back door.
5. He entered through the front door.
6. He entered through the side garage door.

I don't know how many doors this house has, but for any of the standard doors, but IF he entered through any of the doors, the possibilities are a) he had a key, b) he has lock-picking skills and tools, or c) he forced his way in.

IMHO, the easiest entry would be through a window. If he has breaking and entering expertise, then picking a door lock with burglary tools is also on my list. If he had a key, that is a valuable clue. But that's last on my list.

As far as going out, the blood by the front door indicates to me that they exited out the front.

Here is an interesting thought about doors being left unlocked. I woke up one morning to find my back door unlocked (sliding door). The day before my sister had been here. Turns out when I went to another room for something, she went outside and came back in and didn't lock the door. I never checked it because I hadn't gone out and didn't know she had.

Second thing that happened was re-pipers had the entire front of the garage open, but went out the back small garage door to sit in the backyard shade at lunch (I had offered). When they came back in, they locked the door (they informed me if such), but if they had not would I have thought about checking since I didn't know they went in and out that way?

I can see ways doors might end up unlocked and a person doesn't even know it. At 84, if one hasn't unlocked a door, you aren't taking the energy to check it, imo. Brings back the thought of someone who might have worked on the property.

This right here is exactly why I hate sliding doors. Either don't use them & jam a door blocker/dowel in the track so it stays stuck or if you use them in any fashion (like guests who may come in/out), basically if they are accessible, they have to be on the nightly lock check. I agree that at 84, if you don't use the door yourself, in a safe neighborhood, you're not checking that door.

I honestly just assumed she may have left the sliding door unlocked. It's off to the side of the house, obscured somewhat by the fence and bushes, that's not necessarily something I would remember to lock every time if I lived in a very safe neighborhood.

And even if it was locked, seems sliding doors are particularly easy to breach.

They can be, but I have a nail pin in mine ( you can't lift the door when it's in place ) and the wood dowel jam works fairly well if it's over an inch in diameter. Still and all, if you feel safe, you can get lax. And yet there was a security screen door on the front door. (I don't have one of those). If you have extra security at the front doors, I would think you have that at the other doors, but maybe not. Maybe the door at the front was so critters could not get in if she wanted the front door open and the other doors were not as secure.
