If more than one perp, what if they wanted Nancy to be able to get access to Annie and SIL’s home for whatever reason. Having Nancy at gunpoint may make them more compliant when the perps turned up.

Would Nancy have had a key to their house?

Did Nancy refuse to put her family in danger? Did this cause plans to change dramatically?

If just one perp then I can’t see this as a viable option.

I think we are overcomplicating this crime. I would like to know if each of the family members and their respective spouses/adult children/known associates/employees have been given lie detector tests? I think someone connected in some way to a family member committed this crime for money - either ransom or from the sale of NG's house/estate/life insurance/retirement account/other assets. If NG were to die, I would assume that in her will, she splits her estate among her 3 kids/grandkids. I think a family member has money issues or owes someone money and saw this as a way to obtain a lot of money quickly - within 30-90 days. Ransom = quick money, estate settlement = 90 days or so after her death. I think the original plot was kidnapping for ransom, but then NG may not have made it through the crime and the perpetrator knows they would be charged with kidnapping and murder.
