These are 'Facts' because William Gore said Jonah Shacknai said so

The official ruling as to cause and manner of death didn't come from CPD, it came from the ME. Plenty of details already have been released for me to form an opinion. You have posted that Coronado doesn't have a homicide department, which isn't surprising considering the small size of the community. If the case wasn't investigated as a homicide, there are no additional details that the Chief can give, are there?

I think Dina's experts are quite competent and have excellent credibility with the Attorney General's office. I think the AG understands when small town police depts. are in over their head and in Max's case, they were.

JMO

You certainly have your right to your opinion, as do I....and I was less than impressed with Dina's so called "experts".....IMO, they didn't support any of their claims with substantiated evidence......Regarding CPD.....they looked at the possibility of Max's death being a homicide, and based upon the EVIDENCE, they determined that it was an accident.......again, I suggest that you speak with Chief Scanlon.........he is open to talk with people about his department and their operations, except when they are publicly trashed in the MSM, much like Dina Shacknai did prior to asking for them to consider reopening Max's investigation......and I don't blame him one bit.

Scanlon sounds like a big baby. I don't blame Dina for going over his head.

Dina's experts are impressive. I think Melinek is just awesome. Perhaps the Chief can contact her for some training:

She trains doctors on forensic pathology, proper death reporting and certification. She has been invited to lecture at professional conferences on the subjects of death certification, complications of therapy and in-custody deaths.

Sorry, no links to support what I believe to be true.

So, you have reason to believe that detectives/LE are investigating?

  • #64
I think LE are trained to know their first impressions can be deceiving and therefore have to be confirmed with real evidence. The real evidence lead them to a conclusion of suicide.

You'll have to ask Adam for explanations for his comments. I have never happened upon a body hanging so I have no idea what I would say to 9-1-1and I'm not about to judge him since, as you point out, it's not first-hand information.

JMO

BBM

I have not said you are judging Adam. Nor am I about to ask Adam what he really saw/thought when he SAW/FOUND Rebecca. That's LE job, regardless the cost.

You have no way of knowing that.....CPD considered every possibility before they ruled it an accident.......And Dina's experts referenced "Wikipedia and LHK".......like they are reputable sources........I would suggest that you speak with Chief Scanlon about the details. Additionally, Mayor Casey Tanaka also stands behind the CPD ruling of "accident" in agreement with Chief Scanlon and CPD.........although he allowed Dina to plead her case to the city councill......case closed.

I agree! Even according to Dina's own speculations, that Child Protective Services were alerted when Max was received at the hospital indicate that LE was very thorough in their investigation of Max's injuries and had considered possible foul play. However, the collective evidence proved otherwise, and the authorities ruled: Max had an accident. Case closed.

Yes, I think the AG has launched an investigation because Dr. Melinek presented a compelling argument and she seems to be highly respected by Cali prosecutors and law enforcement.

After her performance on Dr. Phil, when Dr. Wecht took her to task for her conclusions, I hardly think she presented a compelling case of assault, and when you look at her references: LHK and Wikipedia, well that is beyond unprofessional, IMO.

Hi again, MyBelle! Could you please state where you base this opinion from? DS hasn't stated publicly she was bringing MS' case to the AG. Did she do that? If so, why hasn't any statement been made to that effect? I can't understand why there would be a MSM blitz like we saw to petition the Coronado PD and then when going to the state's highest legal official, not hearing anything in the MSM. Please, just help me clarify. TY

ETA: Does the AG ever just take up a case? Is this something that normally happens? I'm not from CA, and I'm not sure of how things work there...but if the AG suddenly took up an investigation in the MS case, don't you think it would stand to reason that they would be looking at RZ as well? Always MOO

Dr. Wecht can't blame Dr. Melinek for making himself look a fool. She's never been indicted or prosecuted by the feds and she continues to hold very esteemed positions in California both on faculty and as an expert witness for the prosecution.

Once the child abuse allegations were raised by Melinek, I think Wecht couldn't wait to hit the road and put the case in his rear view mirror.

Wecht didn't analyze Max's death, he examined RZ's and I seriously doubt he knew the child's mother had expressed concerns about Max's safety prior to his death.

I think a request to the AG was the next step after both the city council and Coronado LE turned down Dina's request to open a homicide investigation. Nobody has to state publicly that they are requesting the AG launch an investigation. And I would be shocked if the AG acknowledges the existence of an investigation while it is ongoing. The DOJ never acknowledges or discusses the criminal investigations underway under their jurisdiction.

There is a huge difference in the two cases. RZ's case was investigated by the SDSO as a homicide. Max's was not.

So besides the meeting at Starbucks, when did DS make her concerns known? Did she make them known to anyone? Did she contact an attorney? Did she think that RZ had hurt MS prior to to the incident that caused his death? TIA

No, Rebecca's death was not investigated by SDSO as a homicide......from the moment that they arrived on the scene (called in by CPD), they focused their investigation (if you want to call it that) as a suicide.

Here's a link and the homicide detective's phone number is listed. According the reports made public by the Sheriff's office concerning RZ's death investigation and Coronado PD concerning Max's death investigation that are on the link, Coronado called in the SDSO because RZ's death was deemed to them to be "suspicious." Max's death was not. I'm not sure why you continue to insist it isn't true.

Why are you asking me these questions? I'm not Dina but I'm surprised that you suggest her concerns required a wider broadcast beyond a mention to the child's other parent for her concerns to be valid. What has validated her concerns is the fact that her child did die while in his father's house under RZ's care. To my knowledge, Dina has not publicly stated details as to why she was so concerned but it turns out, she was justified.

Since Rebecca had been living with Jonah for more than 2 years at the time of Max's death, if Dina had been so concerned for Max's safety prior to this, then why did she not do something about it previous to Max's death? For instance, why did she not drag Jonah back into court in Maricopa County? There are plenty of things that divorced parents can do in these types of situations.........doesn't seem to me that she was all that concerned, or she would have taken action long before July, 2011.

I think it is absurd to even suggest Dina should have known up front that her ex-husband would ignore her request or to suggest that a Court can guarantee safety of a child in a parent's home. If that were remotely true, there would not be the huge number of murders even though Court protection orders are in place.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. In Maricopa County, if a parent thinks that their child is in danger while in the custody of the other parent, then it is completely normal for that parent to seek the assistance of the court and the police.........And who said anything about murders?

All Dina has said that I'm aware of is that she told Jonah she didn't want her child left alone with RZ or her family. "Concerns" aren't enough for the courts or police in my state to get involved in domestic disagreements or they would not have time to handle anything else. I assume Maricopa County has similar procedural policies.

Not according to that article:

Investigators said they spoke to someone who knew Zahau and that that person said she had been upset for months, was losing weight and not exercising. Authorities also said they found notes in Zahau's personal journal at the Coronado mansion indicating emotional distress.

The evidence is "all compelling and points persuasively" to suicide, Gore said.

JMO

Who gave investigators and Gore the name of the person who reported that Rebecca was down and losing weight? Who gave them Rebecca's journals? Don't tell me it was Jonah again.

Seems like Jonah should have been paid for his part in directing the course of this ivestigation, imo.
