"All I know is that there's additional charges because this young lady has definitely got a bit of a criminal past." Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary said.

Huh? WHAT does this comment mean? What a weird statement to make to a reporter?

Prior to all of this, she did not have any problems with the law did she? And what kind of explanation is that for current charges? Is he implying that they are charging her frivolously because of current suspected criminal activity? I would think they would charge based on current evidence, not criminal past.... and that frivolous charges would harm, not help... confused!!

This comment as me going.... :waitasec:

Also possible that its a juv. record that would be sealed.

I remember this statement. I just assumed that Sheriff Beary meant that the more involved they got, the more lies, deception, and theft they uncovered. Just because she never got caught prior to this doesn't mean she wasn't a criminal...JMO, of course.

How about the $25,000 = dollars stolen from her parents and the money stolen from her dear old grand dad?

I wonder if they can prosecute her for those offenses IF her family won't agree to press charges OR to testify against her.

I find it hard to believe a DA would even force her family to help convict of these offenses considering she's already DESTROYED the whole family. It seems rather cruel.

Bold is mine. ITA. Also, I don't think the state can "make" anyone
press charges. They can strongly encourage it, and in some cases (ie: domestic violence) the state can press charges...

Using the word "bit" could mean detectives heard of casual drug use & prior underage drinking amongst her & her friends.

Now that I think of it..... WHY didn't she graduate h.s.??? Was she expelled for some reason?

You have a good point there...underage drinking and such.

I've never heard a definitive answer about why she didn't graduate, only speculation and rumors. However, the topic always makes me think about Cindy speaking of "after Casey's graduation" at the first bond hearing...

A lie that Cindy told while under oath.

I'm guessing that these crimes were the check/fraud charges that hadn't happened yet? It was in her past but without formal charges yet?

IIRC.... she was allegedly a pretty good student so it always seemed odd to me that she wouldn't graduate.

I wonder if she got into some 'serious' trouble (of a legal nature)... got expelled & THAT'S when her world started to fall apart and the family started to be affected by her worsening behavior.

I'm very interested in hearing about the Casey BEFORE this last 6 months....and when things really started to go bad.

New Charges Filed Against Casey Anthony 1/2 way down page
Sheriff's investigators filed additional charges against Casey Anthony, the mother of missing toddler Caylee Anthony, on Wednesday afternoon.
The additional charges include two counts of uttering a forged check, two counts of petty theft and two counts of fraudulent use of personal identification.
"All I know is that there's additional charges because this young lady has definitely got a bit of a criminal past," Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary said.

I believe "criminal past" refers to the additional charges - forged check, petty theft etc.

I think you are reading too much into this quote.

The reporter already knew that additional charges had been filed against KC and knew what the charges alleged before he/she spoke to Kevin B. When the reporter asked Kevin B. for more details, he responded "all I know is: addtional charges were filed because she committed some crimes."

Charges are always filed because someone commited a crime in the past. You can not be charged for a crime that you may commit in the future.

I've heard she was a good student, too.
It seems, though, even if she was expelled, she could have gone to summer/alternative school in order to graduate.
Maybe this was a way of "sticking it" to Cindy...not realizing the impact it would have on her future.
She doesn't have a GED either, does she?

A lie that Cindy told while under oath.

That is one of about a million things that I do not understand with this case. She committed a blatant perjury there, so why was she not charged with the crime? She committed it. We all know she committed it. She is on TAPE committing it. Hey, maybe that is why she lawyered up? Maybe she IS charged and nobody has discovered it yet? Wouldn't that be funny...

I expect she wasn't charged because as she said, she hadn't been sleeping or eating. She could easily use extreme stress for the confusion. jmo
She won't have that excuse in Jan. though so she ought to be very careful, and take MJ's advice, but I doubt she will.

IIRC... not sure if FL law is same as many other states but I believe state could call any of the A's as hostile witnesses and they could be held in contempt if they refused to answer. A parent/relative can NOT take the 5th on behalf of child or relative unless they are involved in some part of the crime. Spouse is different.
