Click on the other links. They are also giving FREE legal help for those involved in civil suits. I am sure that is more than most companies gave.

I did click on the links and only one of them worked.

Let's try this again shall we?

In my first post on the thread what was the eye rolling for in your response?

That my husband and I dug deep this year for charity?

That I wanted to know what Exxons contribution was?

Or that I gave up my gas guzzling car for a compact?

Did I misunderstand?

That I can't find fault in! I am happy your children got a good education through help from Exxon.
But overall I don't have a postive opinion of big oil companies not just Exxon.
I can understand that. But of course you see that Exxon has been a HUGE influence in our lives. My youngest is the first one to NOT be an engineer. It is like a family tradition. Jonathan was the first one to stand up and say.....this chit is boring and I am NOT going to do it. I thought his stepfather and grandfather were going to pass out. LOL...I can still see that night at the dinner table when he came home for spring break and announced that. For a moment I forgot to breathe. We find out in a few months if he has gotten into medical school. He is going for one of only five openings.:o

Below are a couple of the many contributions Exxon Mobil has made to the Katrina - Rita Relief Funds. They contributed additional monies, but I don't have time to search right now for what the total amount might be. It looks to me like Exxon Mobil Corp. has made substantial contributions--just my opinion. I do know that their "employee match" programs bring in large amounts of money too.

Reported on Sept. 15, 2005--CNN

Exxon Mobil will donate $2 million to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and will provide $5 million in grants to local relief agencies. They are also providing an employee match of up to $500,000.

Reported on October 14, 2005--Texas Insider

Austin Economic Club Names “Hurricane Heroes”

Excerpts:

At a breakfast featuring U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, the Austin Economic Club (AEC) designated four Texas businesses – Verizon, Exxon Mobil, SBC Communications and Temple-Inland -- along with Austin Mayor Will Wynn, as “Hurricane Heroes” for outstanding contributions to relief efforts after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

ExxonMobil has donated in excess of $13 million in cash, gasoline, and
services to the recovery efforts of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Specifically, Exxon Mobil donated thousands of gallons of gasoline to emergency first-responders along the coast, had 16,000 employees volunteer to help relief efforts, and contributed $7 million to the American Red Cross. They also gave $1 million to the Texas Disaster Relief Fund and $1 million to a relief fund set up for Jefferson County residents.

My husband is an engineer - graduated from Va Tech. He is not a chemical engineer though.
I personally won't boycott Exxon because I would have to drive 15 miles out of my way to another gas station. Hardly seems worth it to me when all the big oil companies made record profits this year. Congrats on your sons and their remarkable success - you should be very proud and their success says a lot about you as a parent. CHEERS! :blowkiss:
I am wishing you and your son much success in med school - he's going to get in!

I say this with no sarcasm - my GOOGLES broken. Every time I try to do a search it hangs and Yahoo too! I really can't look it up right now. I have tried all ways to fix it myself and can't. Computer goes to the shop on Wednesday.

No, yes, no. I give BIG time to church, SS, and kid causes. FFA is big up here and they give scholarship to the kids so I give freely to that and help with fundraisers and stuff like that even though my kids are grown. I drive a little cute two seater...I am all for not wasting gas and cutting down on pollution. I traded in my SUV when the kids all left for college. I just thought it was funny that you wondered if Exxon gave to the Katrina relief fund. I don't know why the links didn't work. They did for me. But, I notice that I have problems with a lot of the links here also.

My fav charity is the Salvation Army and St Judes.

There for a minute I thought you might not like a Steelers fan - my husband the Cowboys fan has been pretty nasty about us going for a 5th Super Bowl ring! :D

Well, some people will 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 even if you hung them with a new rope. I just try to over look that. I was REALLY impressed with them for doing that. I think it is a great cause. I love all the people who can do something great for the world. Mother Teresa was a really cool person too...IMO :p Some people make the world a better place to live in. :blowkiss:

This has been a fun debate...however, I had to duck out and go home.

The law of supply and demand works. Had the government capped gas prices....heck what am I saying IF, in my area, they did....guess what would happen and did? SHORTAGES. No one in my area had gas to sell. The supply was disrupted/reduced and everyone's freak-o-meter was going off and there were runs on the gas stations. The stations that kept a reasonable price lost gas and convenience store purchases when they sold out. The stations that raised the price extremely sold to those who desperately needed gas.....the people that were fillling up every car they own, every lawnmower, every gas can, every mason jar wouldn't pay it. That left gas for others that needed it. I swear I saw a guy at a pump (with about 20 people in line behind him) almost get pummelled. He had his truck with a trailer behind it. He had his lawnmower, a four-wheeler, several ~3 5 gallon gas cans, and several other small ones and was filling everything up. The high gas prices on that Wednesday stopped some of that.

Gas prices are high because of hurricanes and China's demand. China is booming at a rate we can't even understand so the cost of steel and gas and many other raw materials is higher.

All of you liberals who hate the gas stations and paying $2-$3 per gallon...I am sure that you wrote your representatives to demand that we start drilling in ANWR (a tract of land specifically set aside FOR DRILLING) and off the coast of Florda. Right? If it wasn't for the liberal Senators and the liberal environmental lobby then we would be taking that oil which is estimated to be about 30 years worth of what we import from the middle east every day. Oh no, we put the mating habits of a Caribou (which are flexible and will get it on elsewhere) above our national security and our economy. But then we have the audacity to complain because someone in the oil business makes money. America hasn't built a single refinery in some 30 years because the idiot environmentalists (so called, most hate America and are more accurately anti-Capitalists) have filed so many law suits that it is all but impossible economically. Further, these so-called environmentalists have made so many blends necessary for the various States that it drives prices higher because the refineries we do have must stop making blend B for GA so they can make blend z for CA.

For all of you that have complained about Exxon, how many actually went and read their financial statements to see where most of their profit came from? I believe that a huge chunk of it and possibly a majority of it came from overseas sales. Not all oil that Exxon sells is sold here.

Teach your kids independence from the Federal Government. Teach them to be successes in industry. Teach them personal and community responsibility and to love success. Maybe, just maybe, they will grow up and be successful and hated by self-indulgent people who obviously were kept down by George Bush's newly imposed Caste system.....couldn't be that they are where they are because of their own decisions and actions....right? :D

No no Jeana DP, I wasn't talking about anyone specific...more the liberal mindset.

I just don't get it that there are known threats to the US....Terrorism, dependency on foreign oil, taxes, etc. There are known and direct answers to these threats (wire taps, drilling and exploration in the US, permanent tax cuts) and yet there are people that oppose it.

One more Exxon and other oil company comments.....when and if we ever start drilling in ANWR, who do you think will foot the cost of all those rigs and equipment? The US Government, that is who......oh wait, no that's not right. Exxon and other oil companies will. Something else to think about.

Cal if we weren't in a war that a big part of the world accuses us of being in simply for "oil," I wouldn't even think twice about Exxon's profits, I'd just be buying stock. :D And, I guess to tell you the truth, normally I don't even give a rat's a$$ what the rest of the world thinks of us, they can go to hell. However, I know at least a dozen mothers whose sons are over there doing their jobs for this country and it just isn't right that this oil company made $10 BILLION in profits in THREE MONTHS time. They KNOW it too or they wouldn't have taken out full page ads basically apologzing for how this looks.
