Titanic II to set sail in 2022, resuming route of original ship

A replica of the infamous Titanic will set sail in 2022, resuming its original route...

“Blue Star Line will create an authentic Titanic experience, providing passengers with a ship that has the same interiors and cabin layout as the original vessel, while integrating modern safety procedures, navigation methods and 21st century technology to produce the highest level of luxurious comfort,” Chairman of Blue Star Line Clive Palmer said in London...

Titanic II resumes construction after financial holdup, plans to finally set sail in 2022

Blue Star Line never let go.

The Titanic II is set to make its two-week maiden voyage in 2022, and construction of the replica recently resumed after a financial dispute held up the $500 million project for several years.

The ship, which will feature the same cabin layout as the original, will sail from Dubai to Southampton, England and then on to New York, tracing the North Atlantic route of its doomed namesake, which sunk on April 12, 1912, less than three hours after sideswiping an iceberg...

And this is because why.

Just a guess, but Blue Star Line probably sees a lot of these in their future: $$$$$$$$$$ :D

I wonder if Celine will be played on loop on deck.

Does anyone find this a bit distasteful like making money off of a terrible tragedy?

Unless it's requested by passengers, shipboard entertainers don't usually include "My Heart Will Go On" in their repertoires. There was a talented musician playing a pan flute on one of our cruises, and I asked him at the end of his set why he hadn't played the popular song that opens with beautiful strains from a pan flute. He told me that he would play it upon request during his next performance. I requested it, and he played it. Awesome!

How about featuring the movie 24/7 on the jumbotron? Princess Cruises calls it "Movies Under the Stars" (MUTS).

I wouldn't be interested in sailing on the vessel, but I'll bet there will be a lot of Titanic enthusiasts who will jump (not overboard) at the chance.

Looks like the time-span -- how long it takes to unvalue completely the memories of the 1500 dead -- is 110 years.

Instructive.

How cruel you are, now this song is replaying in my head all the time...(again!)
If you're into macabre things, that's the perfect cruise, I guess...

I bet this cruise will cost a fortune with so few passengers onboard.

Wow. I really dont get this at all. Why tempt fate and why even chance that they would get enough interest to make it profitable?

If lack of interest goes down after the first couple voyages, I can see it now.
"Next sailing will feature a simulated wreck into a fake iceburg at the exact location. And to make it more realistic we will only have a handful of lifeboats and make people disembark and fight over the few that we have" :)

Seriously though this seems to be a huge financial gamble that there will be enough interest in this ship and its voyages.

I suppose once its built they may be able to just park it somewhere and charge admission to tour the ship. I wouldnt mind seeing the insides of it so long as it was firmly tied to shore with strong ropes. :)

I thought the same thing! No thanks. Who wants to go on a freezing cold ocean crossing voyage? Fly.

I'm not superstitious, but I am a very strong proponent of asking "is this necessary?" before throwing half a billion dollars into a Greatest Hits of Human Tragedy novelty project. Is there some October Fool's Day nobody told me about?

I wonder if they will have a big projector screen showing the movie on loop on deck and an orchestra playing.

If I was going on a cruise it would be on one of those gigantic Royal Caribbean ships not this. But really being trapped on a boat with 6,000 people and catching norovirus from people who don’t wash their hands isn’t tempting to me.
