I think your point is that there is no US standard defining what age young people can be taken advantage of. I totally agree. I just get frustrated when reading stories like this that many people (like in comments on FB in this case) seem to blame a 17-year-old for “running off” with her 27-year-old uncle when that power differential is inappropriate. (I’m not saying you feel this way.)

If she is not in touch with her family, she is missing and, as a minor, she is illegally with this much older man. I am shocked every time that people in the comments defend this type of relationship. (Again, I’m not implying you feel this way.) Jmo

I started steaming while reading those posts. I wonder if they would behave differently if she was their 17 year old. I married at 18 he was 21 (47 years married) and I wasn’t even knocked up lol We were in love. Now I look at my granddaughter and think - huh? 18? Things were different back then. 18 is still young, barely into young adulthood.

Moo..well if the rule is be pregnant at 14 ..well then.....then could be 'dating' at 13. I do not think it is ok. But with the internet it does show how such information can be used. This is not a pleasant situation for any of this family. I only just learnt about NC yesterday..I was amazed!!!

I'm so glad she's been found safe and that he is in custody.

This man is bad news. And it appears that he ran off with another teenager in 2013.

Oh I bet he did. His actions just go to show his moral compass.

Hopefully Autumn can get great counseling. Actually her whole family. This guy caused some serious damage to a family as a whole.
