For clarification ID of missing UofM student found in burnt vehicle
Later that night, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Wilson’s ID was found inside a burnt vehicle in Arlington.

According to an incident report with SCSO obtained by Action News 5, deputies responded to a fire call around 10:30 p.m. near 11150 Highway 70.

Upon arrival, a deputy observed a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames. Shelby County Fire (SCF) made the scene and put the fire out. The deputy observed a burnt ID next to the passenger side door and was able to get Barshay Wilson’s information, according to the incident report.
SNIPPED:
While this fire happened late Friday night, this is the same scene where police found a body Monday afternoon.

Memphis Police say the person died of a gunshot wound.

So the car was found on fire Friday night and he was located on Monday.
It's rather sad they didn't think to check the area once his ID was found near the burning car. I suppose they had to wait until the car cooled off once the fire was put out.

Such a tragedy. Barshay was a smart young man who had a great future ahead of him.

Unless the owner of the car met with the same end and just hasn't been found yet.

I am still confused about him posting the degree earned in 2021 and commencement taking place in December 2022 unless it was a Covid postponement.

Aside from the likely explanation of Covid, perhaps he took Maymester or Summer class for graduation.
From what I’ve experienced, Commencement takes place either spring (early May) or winter (December) depending on the school and/or size of the graduating class.

From what I can tell, there is a miscommunication on this. Post #7 ( I think) it stated his last FB post was from 7/21 however the graduation ceremony was recent. IMO

I think I read it too fast and thought it was from July 22 that he posted it.

I think sunflowermomma is right:
A lot of schools are allowing students who should have walked during canceled COVID ceremonies to walk in 2022-2023 ceremonies. My university is doing this, and additionally, they are printing our names in the 2022-2023 announcements - they were not in the 2021 announcement.

My heart goes out to Barshay Wilson's family and loved ones. It's good to hear that the Memphis Police Department is progressing in the investigation and have now arrested a second man who is believed to be connected to the murder.
I hope justice will be further served for Barshay and his family. Also, I hope the authorities can piece together what happened and that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. Once I've found this tragic and heartbreaking case, I'm gonna follow it. (I frequently ask myself why so many crimes happen to students...)

This is organized crime / gang m.o. but I'm guessing dumb ones who thought burning a car would render it unidentifiable. Seems about the right amount of time for a vin etc to be lifted, tracked and enough connected people interrogated to produce arrests. Might have just been cell phone data though. I wonder what a motive could have possibly been. Tuition loan sharking?
