I saw somewhere that they already had a DNA match before they saw the video. I'm not sure I believe that. Before they saw the video all they had was a phone, a water bottle, some slides, and maybe a late jogger. I don't see why that would trigger an urgent run of DNA. I think I would have concluded she fell and got herself to urgent care. I don't think I would have gone straight to a kidnapping. And without that I would think the crime lab is busy enough to to prioritize on a hunch. Heck, until they knew a crime had been committed I don't even see how it would be justified to use police resources to test anything.

That is not to fault LE in anyway. They are doing an amazing job here.
They did not have dna evidence before they viewed video. Sequencing takes a couple hours.

Why not just rape her in the bushes? Why take her away? Sounded to me from the affidavit that he wanted her in the vehicle from before the attack.

It was probably too public a location. I really can't imagine he took her very far though.

Probably to take her to a secluded location. Less chance of being caught in his mind.

I think they only have pings at this point. Getting GPS data would require a warrant and I doubt they have the time. Ping data is good enough to trace his movements.

Regarding a handoff, I doubt it. This guy just got out of prison under 2 years ago. He does not have local friends. Even his brother would hardly know him. Sad to say but I think they will find her body in exactly the areas they have been looking near brother's house and in the next day or so. He probably crudely concealed it but someone will find it.
I would bet money there isn’t a judge in Memphis who wouldn’t sign that warrant in the middle of a Sunday night on a holiday weekend...

…dbm… I really can't imagine he took her very far though.

Especially if she was in the passenger seat (per affidavit) injured but fighting, or unconcious.

Have we ruled out he was hired ? Wasn't it reported he had his girlfriends car? ( a girl of his own)I also thought his crimes were more for $$$$.

This creep may have gotten a sexual thrill from the other assaults & that prior kidnapping on his record. He wasn’t out more than 2 years before he did it again. Poor impulse control, repeat offender.
The kidnapping aspect is actually a part of what he is after, I am guessing (MOO).

Gross, I know.

I have little doubt that when they find her body, they'll find evidence of his DNA on it (and not just from a potential rape).

They would have executed a search warrant on his body when they brought him in, and I'm sure it'll show evidence of scratches.

That DNA will be under her fingernails, which is exactly what happened in a case up the road from me.

That too was another jogger, Vanessa Marcotte. She fought her assailant like hell, and that DNA led to his arrest months later.

Even though his brother, Pookie, is a criminal, I feel sorry for him. He's likely just trying to get by and be 'cool'. To think that your brother is a killer is on another level.
(Of course I have no idea whether Mario is a generally ok person or as messed up as his big bro. But that's my best guess at this point.)
Brother did the right thing by saying what he knows, IF he told all he knows. Hopefully he did.

That is as charitable as I will be for the brother tonight.

I've absolutely ruled it out. This is the exact type of guy who goes out and does something like this on his own. He's a convicted felon with a previous history of kidnapping, and apparently creeped out women by propositioning them for sex.

He's your run-of-the-mill sexually motivated killer.

I am wondering if she was targeted - that this criminal was hired to snatch her and pass her onto someone else. Although it seems unlikely and I am not sure who would target a mother and teacher, unless they were looking to somehow scare her or her family. Even though her grandfather was very wealthy, who knows if she had a lot of money.. I am just wondering why she has not been found - from the evidence we have at the moment, she was not kidnapped by a master crimina..

Could he have got to a river in the time he had available?

You know, I have been thinking, a lot of people have suggested he might have been on drugs and he might have. But being in prison for the last 20 years might have led him to avoid hard drugs. Sixteen is a little young to be a serious heroin addict but not impossible, and he was incarcerated until less than 2 years ago. I'm not so naive as to think he would not have access to drugs in prison but it probably would be very limited. And it seems unlikely that a 36 year old man would take up heroin when he got out, especially after his SIL OD-ing.

I don't think we need to consider if he was high. It just does not matter. He is just a bad, bad guy
If he was high, IMO it would more likely have been meth, not heroin/opiates. Lots of crimes committed when high on amphetamines.

My speculation here, I've been trying to think why he hasn't offered up a location. Their is only two I can really think of, the first he thinks he's hidden her very well and she won't be found or the second is that he has handed her off to someone else and will keep tight lipped to avoid any blow back from the secondary person
He has no advantage in saying where she is, because he is likely still denying he hurt her.

Once she’s found, new charges come down. So… he’s hoping she’s never found.

Any professionals available that can explain why bond was set in this case? Considering the evidence so far and the criminal history, I assumed this suspect would be held without bond. Is it a technicality?

I think it's the law in Tennessee. "Under Tennessee law, every criminal suspect, except those facing a death penalty case, is constitutionally entitled to a bond."

This guy, "Pookie", is definitely not a member of MENSA. As I am reading the news stories, he actually had the stolen vehicle where he was living? That is where he was arrested? But before he was arrested, he went to his brother's house, and cleaned the car and washed his clothes in the sink?

It is definitely not to his benefit if the victim is found. He didn't seem to have a lot of time here...so, more than likely, victim was not buried.

Thank You!
That article is very poorly written. The heading indicates "blood in the vehicle", starts off with a quote that has no end quote, says it's the full affidavit (with no link to source), then the affidavit contains no reference to blood.

While we can speculate there may have been blood, it is not specified in what is purported to be the full affidavit.
