TN - Five killed in shootings at 2 US military centers, Chattanooga, 16 July 2015

I am only looking at the facts as we know them. It is very fair to surmise that the shooter, Muhammed Yusef, had Jihadist notions as he shot at our soldiers on the last day of Ramadan. I don't think that is too far of a stretch. JMO
I agree. However, maybe we should use the JMO like you just did, until it's confirmed. Again, JMO. ;)

Agreed, wendybtn. Sad for this country. We are too timid to confront anyone, no matter what.
I'm feeling fearful for people in the service in this country and also le. They are more visible because of their jobs and the uniforms they wear. They seem to be a target more than civilians ; imo.

Let's not forget that there have been several hacks into government computers that have exposed names, addresses, etc of our military and families.

Who has that information? To whom will they sell it? Will our military families be safe in their homes, schools, etc?

Sen. John Boozman (R., Ark.) said personal information on the Navy’s most elite special operations team could be in the hands of America’s adversaries following the cyber attack on the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

Boozman told a gathering of reporters in Washington, D.C., on Thursday that the attacks, suspected to have originated from China, targeted the “most sensitive information we have.”

“The breach there was really staggering, this magnitude some of the most sensitive information,” Boozman said. “A lot of people when you fill out a form to get a top security clearance, you’re talking about a 120 plus page form.”

The security breaches have left the personal information of roughly 22 million federal employees in the hands of hackers, including Social Security numbers, fingerprints, and passwords.

Individuals applying for security clearances include members of SEAL Team 6.

“The second breach, you’ve got military personnel,” Boozman said. “We might have a situation, you never know, SEAL Team 6, their records are in there because they went through the same security clearance.”

“So it’s just really very, very serious,” he said.

The Arkansas senator criticized the lack of cybersecurity within OPM, saying the agency “didn’t even know how many servers they had.”

“We spend $82 billion a year on IT, $82 billion a year and we have very little to show for it,” Boozman said.

The twitter account of the guy who seemed to know about the attack in advance just got suspended. I managed to close my window so lost all his tweets now.

That tweet was NOT before the shootings. It was at 1:34pm local time. Shooting at 10:45am. I am disappointed that this tweet was even mentioned here.

So tragic. We need to get serious about mental health care in this country. So many mass shootings are happening by young men. We need to reach out to our young men and tell them it's okay to receive help!

I don't think this particular case had anything to do with mental illness.

We have a total of around 14K homicides per year. Most all of them are done by one sole perpetrator with one victim. Mass shootings are still rare especially when compared to those who commit one on one crimes including male and female perpetrators and both genders collectively kill many more than a mass murderer does. The last statistic I read said about 150 people in total are victims of a mass murderer yearly where the victims didn't know the perpetrator.

I don't see any evidence yet that this man was mentally ill. Having an ideology of hate against what they perceive as infidels isn't mental illness imo.

What we do need to do is find out why so many men commit suicide each year. We lose about 25K+ males this way. That is larger than some cities. The stats for a female committing suicide is around 3,500 per year. I don't believe this serious issue is all to do with mental illness either when it comes to males who commit suicide any more than it is that all mass murderers are mentally ill. I think the suicide rate is much higher because males are treated far differently (poorly) in so many aspects than females in the same type of situations.

If we could find out why they are committing suicides at an alarming rate many many more lives would be saved than those who were murdered by a mass murderer.

This is to be expected. There will be more to come. There are ISIS sympathizers in every state per the FBI. It has nothing to do with mental illness and everything to do with hate. Hate can be a very powerful motive as it was in this tragic heartbreaking case.

IMO

Boy, that really backfired on them....
And this guy lived in a nice house ? (I'm assuming with his parents)
Soooo... he lived in this country , enjoyed some of the prosperity , was free to go where he wanted and to do as he pleased ?
And this is how he repays us ?? :maddening: :furious:

I have something to say to those who think as he does/did, and those who support his actions : If you don't like it here in the U.S. with those who believe and live differently -- then LEAVE !!!!!!!! If you depart our shores, you will no longer be troubled by we who are "infidels". Smh

:moo:

Again, this is most likely his father. The rest of what you said is accurate...but misstating information here is not helping anything.

I do not agree with targeting a group of anyone based on color or religion or any other ridiculous reason. I CAN understand hatred of a terrorist group or single person, but COME ON! If you're targeting a group of people you don't even know because you hate them, how does that make you any different than Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez.? (or however the heck it's spelled?) You are not different. You are the same. I am so disgusted right now and ashamed of the town I live in. Although, I am glad to have many friends posting on my fb AGAINST this sort of attitude, there are many more people posting FOR it. I guess, as has been said a million times before, the dumbest are the loudest. I wish they would all STFU.

Did the suspect hack anything? What does this have to do with Chattanooga? This killer went to two US military centers and killed 4 marines and wounded others. I'm not seeing what hacking has to do with TN? He didn't go to their houses.

I did not know that the document in that post referred to M.Abdulazeez's father.
Apologies for not reading more carefully. :blushing:

If so, I'm sure the deceased perp's family is horrified. If they are not sympathizers with M.A.'s actions , that is.
They have lost a family member forever, and in the worst way possible.
It's nearly impossible to contemplate , as I know my own kids pretty well , but if I were put in the place of this perp's family -- how would I react ?
Most likely I'd release a statement when ready , and it wouldn't be read by myself as I'd probably be incapacitated with grief and most of all ... SHAME. I would not defend any child of mine if either one committed this atrocity.
I would condemn the act and the person behind it ; and apologize to those who were forever scarred by the carnage !
If I were M.A.'s parents, I'd also wonder where I went wrong and if there were missed warning signs.
Until there's more info., we do not know the mindset of the family of M.A. He has probably destroyed them as well.
:(

Those you mentioned did not kill any of our soldiers because of political or ideological or Jihadist notions.

Dead is dead. They killed random people for whatever reason. Soldiers, children, mothers, fathers. Dead is dead

I doubt mental health had anything to do with this. This is about religion.

I would say it is about neither. I would say it is more the result of "brainwashing"

Yes and the brainwashing takes place mostly in Mosques where jihadists are taught a hateful ideology from an early age.

Donald Trump is now speaking to Bill O'Reilly about this tragedy

No. Most mosques are preaching love, peace, gratitude and forgiveness. These lone wolves are being indoctrinated online. Has nothing to do with Islam.

Do we consider Westboro as representative of Christians?

Was Jim jones a spiritual leader? How about David Koresh?

How many 'members' does Westboro have? 14 or 15, mostly from the same wacky family. How many Jihadists does ISIS have currently?

Which is why those that do things such as this are classified as extremist. Very different line between this guy and Muslisms. Its sort of like regular Christians vs. Westboro Baptist..

ISIS is a terrorist organization. It does not represent Islam.

Although for about 14 yrs we ourselves have been being brainwashed to believe Islam = terrorism.
Somebody wants us thinking that. And it seems to be working.

I wonder why these kind of guys like Roof or the Oklahoma bomber or Boston have this need ?
