Current through Pub. L. 114-19. (See Public Laws for the current Congress.)

(4) the term “act of war” means any act occurring in the course of—
(A) declared war;
(B) armed conflict, whether or not war has been declared, between two or more nations; or
(C) armed conflict between military forces of any origin; and

(5) the term “domestic terrorism” means activities that—
(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;
(B) appear to be intended—
(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and
(C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.

Very interesting. Thank you for looking that up.

In my first post I posed it more as a “but I thought” question but it devolved into a did a civilian get injured debate and then I tacked it on a declarative statement.

Sincere gratitude to these honorable, courageous people, they are true Americans.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gun-toting citizens are showing up at military recruiting centers around the country, saying they plan to protect recruiters following last week's killing of four Marines and a sailor in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The citizens, some of them private militia members, said they're supporting the recruiters, who by military directive are not armed.
"We're here to serve and protect," Clint Janney said Tuesday, wearing a Taurus 9mm handgun as he stood in a parking lot across from a recruiting center on the west side of Columbus. "What the government won't do, we will do."

Is there another link corroborating that early statement by a bystander?

It’s possible that the witness from the restaurant next door was mistaken during what I’m sure was a very frightening time.

The link I posted was from today.

Quick search again mentions the injured as a Recruiter.

But does it even matter? The shooter targeted a recruitment center in a strip mall. It was NOT an active naval base full of armed soldiers. He was a COWARD. It was not an act of war it was an act of extreme cowardice.

The passage you quoted mentioned that some of the folks were 'private militia members'. I would suggest that in general, I'd be reluctant to call militia members 'true Americans', considering how many terrorist acts militias have been responsible for:

Flags lowered to honor Tennessee shooting victims
By Al Edenloff
, Echo Press, Today, 12:00 am

"So she decided to see if the city of Alexandria could lower its flags in honor of the victims."

[... and then, when she achieved this]

"She took a few photos of the flag set against the bright sunshine. Then, she used her phone to shoot a video.

As if on cue, an eagle soared overhead, adding to the tribute."

Yes, it does matter:

They managed to avoid Abdulazeez's bullets, except for Sgt. DeMonte Cheeley, who absorbed a shot to his leg. Abdulazeez sped away to the U.S. Naval and Marine Reserve Center on Amnicola Highway, where he killed four Marines and mortally wounded a Navy sailor.
Cheely was treated by doctors and nurses at Erlanger hospital and released the same day.
In a CBS News broadcast Wednesday night, Cheeley said he didn't even realize at first that he had been shot that morning. His adrenaline pumping, he thought glass had sliced a piece of his leg.

Thank you Sergeant Cheeley for your service.

Why are you yelling at me he was a coward?

Because I wanted to make sure that a member of the Military was properly recognized?

I’ll leave the nasty talk for until our faithful have been laid to rest.

Please review history in the mean time re: cowards and war starting.

Your purpose was to make sure that a member of the military was being properly recognized? OK. I am confused because the original discussion that we had was about this:

posted by Jade

But isn’t terrorism an act against civilians?

An attack on armed forces is war but since the enemy in this case is dead…

Remembering the above ^^^^ I thought you were once again trying to say this is NOT TERRORISM because the victim were in the military. Or is that your point, once again?

I asked that question as part of the conversation on semantics. I didn’t know so I asked. My question was answered in a subsequent post by Foxfire.

You replied that a civilian was injured.

In order to set that record straight I came up with the links to back up that it was a member of the Armed Forces that was injured.

I guess because I am close to the situation is just became really important to me to make sure that piece of information was correct.

What the accurate term for the act is is just conversation. I am not trying to say it was or wasn’t anything I was just participating.

I’m sorry I made you so angry and really don’t understand why you were yelling at me he is coward because I never said he wasn’t.

What a damn shame!

There was no damn shame, I assure you.

Sergeant Wyatt’s services at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga were proper, reverent and heartbreaking. As will be Petty Officer Smith’s today.

Law enforcement in the medium size city, most of them veterans, many young not long back from their own service, were able to fully participate in the processional and services instead of tending to special guests. A rite sorely needed by LE to recover from that terrible day.

So it was a kindness not to burden the community with top officials.

Instead it was and is today a service for the family and the people. Thousands lined the streets, watched live coverage and will again today in 96 degree temperatures.

The procession took an hour to pass. All at the slow pace of the participants with no outside schedule or commitments pressing was right for the family and community.

Had the POTUS or other top brass needing security tried to attend they would have been accused of grandstanding, promoting an agenda or taking away from the somber nature.

To try to diminish the sanctity of the ceremony by making it seem lacking shows misunderstanding of the depth of loss of the men and devastation of the community.

These men served their Commander in Chief without question or hesitation. To insert a person’s political agenda during mourning without knowing the fallen’s affiliation or wishes is disrespectful and unpatriotic.

All my opinion

Letter from the mother of Sgt Wyatt to Chattanooga:
