Source: Crews find Joe Clyde's blanket in Dickson

Investigators said 5-year-old Joe's blanket was found on Wednesday along CCC Road in Dickson. Little Joe's father identified it as the blanket given to Joe this past Christmas, according to a source close to the investigation
My first impression seeing the blanket looked to me like there was a body still in the blanket.
I can see what looks like an outline, but I’ve been wrong before...

I hope they would have checked for that before releasing the photo to media.

But he's got to be close to where the blanket was found, surely? I'm hoping it won't be more than a day or two to find him now.

I hadn't read about Joe being beaten and fleeing outside. Then Dad dragging him back to the house and beating him to death. Mom knew, Heard a loud scream and then silence, saw Joe laying the floor and Dad standing with clinched fist, and she goes to sleep??!?! WTH??? Castrate them both, then let the buzzards eat them.

His little brother...he'll grow up blaming himself for telling that Joe peed on the floor. It's not his fault!

From what was said in the hearing, I am glad that at least the two brothers shouldn't ever have contact with KD or RD ever again. But they're going to have a lot of traumas to deal with :-(

Since the hearing a few things have been playing on my mind.

Joseph in his confession stated Joe ran out of the house after he beat him, but first of all how did he get out as apparently he needed to stand on a coffee table to open the door and second how did he make it to the road without Joseph catching up to him? The distance from the house to the road is quite far especially for a 5 year old (pic of house to road attached). I wondered if maybe he had thrown Joe out of the house and shut the door on him and only when he saw a car coming realised he better get to him first, but why not tell the police that?

Also, if the mother wasn't previously abusive, why would he run out of the house instead of going to her or even the aunt, Joyce?

Like others have said, I don't understand why he won't disclose Joe's whereabouts especially as he's already confessed to beating him.

Suppose we'll have to wait for the trial. Not sure what it is but something feels off to me.

That's part of my problem whoever did it, why would the other cover up for them?

Krystal was apparently wanting to leave JD and move to Kansas. So why should she cover for him?

For the same reason, why should he cover for her?

I believe a lot of things didn't come out in that hearing, and some of that might even point more at KD than JD.

Another question I have is how could KD just go back to bed and back to sleep when her elder child has just seen this incident? Even if she didn't call LE (which I think she should have done once she was sure JD had left the house) why didn't she go in and sit with her older boy and comfort him?

I agree with a lot of your points but what if the reason he took her phone to use as a flashlight was so that she couldn’t call? A lot of people don’t have landlines anymore. On the other side of that his Aunt was in the home, she most likely has a phone. Why didn’t she wake up the Aunt?! Blaming the 8 year old is despicable. The 8 year old told police Joe Clyde was stabbed with a knife? This is all so heartbreaking.

He took her phone because his was charging (according to both their confessions) and as he was gone for 3 hrs she had plenty of time to call someone for help.

It's going to be hard to know what to believe from the boy's confession. The defense probably don't think it was the brother, they just want to throw doubt for the jurors if/when it goes to trial.

Source Says Joe Clyde's Blanket Has Been Found

This article says the blacket was within two to three miles from the home and was covered in dirt.

Watch
Tonight's 9 o'clock news said the blanket was found yesterday. Joe Clyde's grandfather said he gave the blanket to Joe Clyde. The area had been searched before.

So how did the blanket get separated from Joe Clyde's body? Animals maybe? I wonder if dogs could now pick up a scent at that spot.

Joseph's phone was home charging in both their stories, so it might have had enough charge to make a quick 911 call for help. Failing that instead of comforting the older boy she could have woken up the great aunt and told her to take the boy to a neighbor's house, called 911 from there and stayed there until the police came to get them. She could have got the little son and gone with them instead of going back to sleep.

Thing is in his statement Joseph said he slung Joe over his shoulder when he got out of the car to dispose of his body, so the blanket could have easily come off en route.

The parents have been indicted by the Grand Jury. In the second article the DA said he is not seeking the death penalty but is keeping open to the possibility:

Joe Clyde's parents face more charges, including possibility of death penalty
DICKSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) - The parents of Joe Clyde Daniels face additional charges, including the possibility of the death penalty.

Joseph and Krystal Daniels were arraigned Friday morning after being indicted by a special grand jury.

Joseph Daniels faces felony premeditated murder and aggravated child abuse charges. His wife, Krystal, has been indicted for failing to prevent aggravated child abuse and neglect and later hindering the investigation.

The district attorney also indicated it could be a death penalty case, but a final decision has not yet been made.

Joseph, Krystal Daniels indicted, tentative trial date: March 2019
Tentative trial date - March 19 2019.
Jake Lockert, the public defender representing Joseph, said “I don’t think there is any way this case can be tried in Dickson County.”
...
Wolfe asked District Attorney Ray Crouch if he was seeking the death penalty for either Joseph or Krystal. Crouch said his office was not seeking the death penalty — but kept open the possibility.

Both defendants remain in the Dickson County Jail on $1 million bond

But if Little Joe was wrapped in the blanket in the trunk, then Joseph wouldn't open the trunk until he got to the place where he intended to put the body, and however the blanket got there I think it's most likely not far from Little Joe. The blanket looks aged from being outside, but it doesn't really look torn up or chewed up by animals, so I can't see that it's been dragged too far from animals. Windstorms, maybe? The wind could pick it up and fly it quite a distance in, say 70mph winds, probably several hundred yards, whereas animal dragging I'd say probably fewer than 50 yards? But the blanket didn't even look like it had maybe landed in a tree from the wind taking it. It didn't look like it had been wet.

Good point. For some reason in my head I had him walking into dense woods.

One of the things the TBI officer said in the hearing was that Joseph said he hid/covered the body, so that blanket could have been the covering?

Most people dumping bodies don't go more than about 200yards from a road, and in April the trees wouldn't have had all their leaves on them yet? Plus it was dark and JD said he only had the light from a cellphone to help him see where he was going. Maybe in a natural dip in the ground in the woods? Maybe he wrapped the blanket over little Joe and as nature takes its course there's less there to hold down the blanket, so the blanket comes loose, but I really can't see it being too far away...I hope not. I want little Joe found asap.

True it could have been. I hope so too, so cruel not to tell, but if he didn't bury him and placed him just a couple of miles away, where was he for 3 hrs.?

Yes, and IMO no matter how the blanket got on the roadside it would allow dogs a new opportunity. At least it's worth a shot and I bet LE will have the same thoughts.

The area is only about 1 to 1.5 miles from the house so it looks like the disposal site is narrowed down. A blanket isn't going to travel too far. MOO.
