Respectfully, considering other possibilities than DS does not mean anyone's ignoring the facts :ignore:, nor that we're irrational . While people have given good reasons for suspecting DS, we do not know what evidence LE has amassed in the case, nor where that evidence leads. LE may be leaning in a certain direction, but they're not even ready to announce a suspect until they have results back from the lab.

No matter what theory I or anyone else might come up with, our speculations will not affect what really happened to Karen Swift. :dunno:

I honestly hope that I did not offend u or anyone else with my previous post. I was attempting to explain why many suspect DS and that those suspicions don't equate to a witch hunt or tunnel vision. Only that bc we are not privy to much with this case that it is difficult to sleuth anyone else bc we really don't know much. LE, family and friends have been really quiet so perhaps we have hyper-focused on what we do know....but not bc we haven't considered alternative theories.

Actually, LE never cleared the neighbor. A while back, I twice posted a couple of articles in which LE made the exact same statements about the neighbor as they did about DS. Essentially, LE said that neither is a suspect, but never said either one has been cleared. Declaring that someone is not a suspect does not mean that he/she has been cleared (otherwise, we would have to assume DS has been cleared, too). That status can change at any time.

I wouldn't say he was "never cleared." In some ways he was cleared - his car was impounded and they found no evidence of foul play. How else would he have transported her body to the graveyard if not in his car?

http://www.stategazette.com/story/1793716.html

On Saturday, Nov. 5, John Hogshooter, 39, Pennell Lane, was arrested by sheriff's officers for aggravated animal cruelty while they were performing a search of a wooded area on Harness Road. Hogshooter was accused of poisoning two dogs in the area, one of which belonged to the Swifts. A warrant was signed for his arrest and he was taken into custody as he pulled into a property of his on Harness Road.

Dyer County Sheriff's Dept. Chief Investigator Terry McCreight said due to the nature of Hogshooter's case and the proximity to the Swifts' residence they had to look at him as part of their investigation into her disappearance. As a result, Hogshooter's vehicle was temporarily impounded and investigators searched his Harness Road residence.

McCreight said Hogshooter's vehicle was released back to him and no noteworthy evidence was found during their search at the time.

What is also noteworthy is the fact that even though the neighbor's car and vehicle were searched, LE never went back to search him again, unlike DS, who has been through 3 seperate searches that we know of. The first being a visual search of the home when he first reported Karen missing, followed later with 2 forensic searches on the home, the second of which was conducted after she was found deceased and focused on the garage. I believe that in itself is very telling.
By all accounts, no other person or property has been searched to date.

Have the Swift cars been impounded and released also? How else would DS have transported her body? (and sudddenly remember a pic of DS's off road vehicle someone posted...) Is it possible to get from the Swift house to the cemetary by trails? Is KS's car still in custody? Does anyone know if a cadaver dog team have examined it? There is apparently allot of info we are not privy to. :headache:

Last report (don't know where I read this, but sometime in December) was that Karen's vehicle was still in impound and tests were being run on the tires. Nothing was ever reported about DS vehicle being impounded or forensically examined and from all local reports, he is driving it.

KS could have been transported in her own car and then her car left on the side of the road.

If a rage then perhaps manslaughter, if premeditated then first degree. Wonder what evidence LE has..
Plea deal in the works?

Plea deal for whom? Has there been an arrest??

I understand real life CSI is not like the tv show but c'mon. How long does it really take to get DNA results back? We've been saying the same thing about Celina's case and it's been over 5 months!

I agree n/t! I know everyone thinks that I am impatient, but it seems very crazy that the autopsy is taking so very long. I have followed enough cases to know that this is a bit unusual. She was not gone as long as several cases that I have followed. It is just seems a bit strange that they are taking so long.

Couple of thoughts about time involved in getting results:

Tight budgets and lots of cases, so might simply be a backup...

Seeking more involved and/or specialized tests that required outside agencies to preform ......

Keeping the pressure on POI....

Justice for Karen.

I have followed cases where it has taken 6 months for DNA results to be returned to identify the body. We are not even to 2 months yet since her body was found.

Mitochondrial DNA results can take a long time.

Her body was already positively identified. We are waiting for COD from the autopsy report; and of course other testing from other items (not publicly identified).

Happy Birthday Karen. May you R.I.P. :rose:

Get your hankie handy!

Shout out to you. Happy birthday, I wish words could explain the love I have for you and how much I miss you but they can't, but its no sweat, I know your watching over me, I just you were here. Thankyou for every single thing you have gave me. Giving me your last 5 dollars, filling my car up even if we didn't have any money, doing everything possible to make me happy. I realize I didn't thank you enough, and ill try an eternity to say thankyou. People say they don't know where they would be without someone, well I say I know where I'm at without you, trying my hardest in life to become the man you've wanted me to grow up to be. Rest in Peace. I'll be there sooner or later. -Dustin Swift

ETA:
Forty five years ago today Karen made her way into this world. It was a proud moment in my life and the lives of all my family. She brought us all so much joy and happiness in her short lifetime. Losing her has caused so much pain for all of us. Happy Birthday, Karen. I love you and miss you so much. Life will never be the same for the rest of us left here. There is an empty space where you should be. -Carol Kidd Johnson

I know her body has been identified. What I was referring to is could take up to 6 months or more for DNA results to come back just like in the case I was referring to where it took that long to identify the remains. LE might be waiting for DNA results to come back in Karen's case which would identify her killer. Someone's DNA might have been found in her car, found on her clothing in the brush or on her body and this could be the reason for the delay. A positive match might not have been obtained through Nuclear DNA testing (perhaps because someone refused to give a sample) so Mitochondrial DNA testing is being done to try and establish the suspects known relatives, particularity that persons mother if I'm understanding correctly how Mitochondrial DNA testing is done to identify someone.

As far as the COD I'm sure they (LE and ME) already know that. Although I don't think they are going to release that information to the public until someone is charged.

I really don't think anyone here would find it unusual that test results aren't in or that LE would still be collecting evidence. It can take years to build a case. I believe that posters are just curious as to why the body has not been released and what bearing that has on the case. Brainstorming reasons why the body is being held as it relates to COD and evidence. It can take months for a full autopsy report to be completed but the body is normally released sooner.

This is the most beautiful and touching picture. It absolutely made me cry when I saw it.

Me too. This case breaks my heart.

I agree. And, they usually don't hold the body until the DNA from the evidence regarding suspects/perp test is complete. It is very strange that they are holding the body this long, but his (Box) comments are intriguing.
