Interesting comment posted on Sheriff Box FB page (BBM):

Thoughts and prayers for you, Sheriff, and your department, during this investigation. As a former Deputy Sheriff, I understand the challenges and workload you are enduring. Stay safe & God Bless!

This person is implying that he has a great workload; which may lend to the theory of caseload backup causing delays. Is there a great deal of crime in this area? I thought I understood that this was a quiet community.

http://www.wmctv.com/story/16603255/karen-swift-investigation-continues-on-murdered-mothers-birthday

The family of Karen Swift met with investigators Wednesday on what would have been the murdered mother's 45th birthday.

Swift's family visited the spot where her body was dumped in December, a month and a half after she disappeared. They left an angel, teddy bear and flowers.

ETA:

Action News 5 asked Box if he thought the murder would be solved and a suspect arrested when the results come back.

"I'm sure we'll have closure in this case," he said.

No suspect have been named in Swift's murder. Box said the results from the medical examiner's office should be in investigators' hands soon.

An article that was posted on the 15th of Jan (see 2 pages back on this thread):

http://www.stategazette.com/story/1804735.html

"Although our office has quite a bit of physical evidence in this case, we have not and will not name any suspect, until we receive all results of lab processing that we need to complete the investigation," said Box.

"This can cause an autopsy to take longer. Also, in this case, examiners are conducting additional detailed exams on certain parts of the body, which is also preventing the release of the body until the exams on those parts are completed."

District Attorney General Phil Bivens stated for the sake of the investigation, very little would be released at this time.

"It is an ongoing homicide investigation and until somebody is charged, there cannot be a lot of details released," said Bivens.

News report today, but pretty much says the same thing:

As of Friday, it had been 48 days since Karen Swift's body was taken to the state medical examiners office to determine her cause of death.

Friday, Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box said it should not be too much longer before they have an autopsy report, but residents said they were ready for some answers. Sheriff Box said he expected closure soon for everyone.

48 days for an autopsy...and counting. Other than Celina Cass, I can't think of another case where it took this long, and even in that case, I believe her body was released long before. Wonder how they were so sure it was homicide if they are having such a hard time determining cause of death, etc...JMO

from your link
Sheriff Box said Karen Swift's killer was still out there and they wanted to be careful before they exposed too many details until someone was in custody.

Compare to some other cases, Sheriff Jeff Box is doing a good job keeping the community informed as best he can IMO.

Don't forget, "and he hoped that would be soon." I think he's saying that when they release the cause of death or make an arrest etc. that everyone will know why the investigation is so complex.

That's why I'm questioning what he means by complex and everyone would understand.

If Karen was murdered by a stranger, why would it be so complex and why does he insuate that everyone would understand why it was so complex? Sadly, Karen wouldn't be the first or last to have been murdered by a monster. Many women are abducted and murdered by a stranger. Why is this murder more complex than any other murder?
Is he perhaps saying the murderer is someone known to Karen?

I guess I'm trying too hard to read between the lines. IDK

However it's worded, I get the distinct impression an AW will be issued on the heels of the AR.

I think he is hinting that the way she was murdered was very comple? But who knows...

I believe there are several things that have to be established. First, whether or not Karen left her home willingly (on her own) that morning. Second, whether or not Karen was driving the car, or was the last person to drive the car. Are there signs of a struggle inside the vehicle, or is there evidence her body was in the cargo area? In addition, I believe LE is looking very close to home, and they have not found anything to support a random stranger abducting and murdering Karen.

But none of that explains why they would still be holding her body, and being unable to date to complete the autopsy, JMO

Could be. Out of curiousity I googled complex murders.

The results ranged from the perp having psychiatric issues, another was a perp who was convicted of murdering his entire family but claims innocence, another one was a woman whose son was murdered and she feels there was a politically motivated cover up of her son's murderer.

and then there is this

The importance of a well defined analytical strategy
to solve complex murder cases

I think this LE is being very thorough with their investigation in this case and want to ensure they have the right guy.

I think that's where this case is headed. They want to rule out anyone else and I have this awful sick feeling in my stomach that this was a brutal murder.

I hope I'm wrong and Karen died quickly.

This may be a long shot speculation, however, isn't her husband still "next of kin" to determine the disposition of her body? Could it be to prevent her cremation until everything regarding COD is established?

Or who to release the body to? If they consider him a suspect, I think they would have to deal with some reprecussions later if her body was released to him and it turns out he is responsible.

Or because they were in the middle of a divorce, who do they release the body to? The ex or her family?
