Could it be that they just don't have anything conclusive enough to go forward? I'm wondering if whatever was being tested or checked into just didn't pan out.

If we are to believe LE, the delay is still the autopsy report. According to Sheriff Box, he still does not have the report in hand. He needs to be a bit more impatient if you ask me. ;)

I will be extremely interested to see how quickly the ole Sheriff responds once he actually receives the report. I also want to know why he doesn't have it in hand even though it is "done". If I knew that it was done, I would send a courier over to pick it up and not wait for snail mail. I know - budget cuts, budget cuts. :sigh:

Mail for autopsy reports? Are you serious?

Another week comes to an end without an arrest in this case. My weekends are generally quite full; and this one is no exception. Maybe next week will be the week!

Maybe LE doesn't have enough evidence or they would have made an arrest, maybe?!? All I know is there is 4 children without their mom because somebody heartless killed her and they are roaming free!!!

At first I thought it was a matter of deciding if the evidence pointed to per-meditated, versus manslaughter - now I wonder if the evidence points to anything conclusive... so sad for Karen.

:bump: for Karen....

What gives? Is this a good ole boy's club situation? Or are the investigators still putting the pieces together? Or have the pieces come together with the dotting the I's and crossing the T's taking place prior to an arrest?

Lots of views but few comments...let's keep on keeping on for Karen...

I think they're keeping investigative information close to their chest so that Karen's murder will be solved. Quite often, when the husband is the only suspect, letting the information out of their hands means people begin to speculate ... that speculatation and talking head trash results in weird tainted juries, bold, ridiculous opinons and a kind of "cheering for the team" takes over the investigation.

It leaves us hanging with nothing to go on, but I think we'll know soon enough. It might take 5 or 6 years like the Jason Young trial, but there will eventually be a resolution to Karen being found under the brambles near a graveyard shortly after halloween.

The staged part is that her car was found close to home with a punctured tire, her clothes were found between the car and the home neatly folded and tucked under a bush and her cell phone pinged near or on a nearby river, just a little further away from the home than Karen - under the brambles.

I don't remember what the plant was called, but I very much appreciated the links showing how the plant took over every building and tree because it grew so fast. I was fascinated that it originated in Japan and was introduced to the US through the World Fair ... that it is an invasive plant that has taken over the SW US and is threatening Canada.

Had Karen not been spotted that weekend, she would never have been found.

Someone dumped her in the bramble bushes. She was no where near her car, no where near her phone, no where near her clothes. Her clothes, phone, car and body were all more or less radially distanced from her body. They weren't in a straight line leading away from the crime, like one would expect with a stranger murder.

If there was no rape, then it's most likely the husband ... that, in an autopsy report, would give the talking heads all sorts of things to talk about for a couple of weeks, but it won't help the investigation.

Here's the thing, also the body was placed there later bc supposedly the cops had searched that area. You guys ever read topix on this? I went on there the other day and read things it's very interesting and they keep the thread going about Karen, but also a lot of gossip and rumors.

I think that some areas were searched, but there was also some information about the kudzu and how it was easier to spot Karen because of the weather and temperature at exactly the time when she was discovered.

No, I don't believe that they searched there, actually. Topix isn't considered a valid source of information here on Websleuths. :twocents:

And even if they had searched, they probably wouldn't have traipsed through the kudzu because of snakes.

Kudzu is a vine that covers everything about 3 feet deep in leaves and vines.

At Halloween time the leaves would still have been green and lush and covered everything underneath.

But it is deciduous, and as soon as the frost comes, the leaves die and the vines turn sort of gray. Karen was discovered after there had been several frosty nights and the kudzu was dead.

Here's what the cemetery there looks like in winter - no leaves:

ETA: This picture isn't the same place, but this is an example of what kudzu looks like before the frost kills it.

I agree with ThoughFox. I believe Karen was placed in the kudzu the night she was murdered.

Respectfully, I must disagree with your statement that the area where they found the body was searched.
Sheriff Box admitted that they did not search the area where she was found :( Sad, but true.

What Box said over and over was that the body was "placed and concealed" in the graveyard kudzu.

http://www.stategazette.com/story/1794468.html

Box stated due to Swift's body being placed and concealed in the area and apparent injuries the case is moving forward as a murder investigation. He and investigators feel someone placed the body at the location, but will not be able to confirm this until the medical examiner's report comes in. He expects a full report sometime within the next week to determine a definite cause of death.

Box noted the area where Robinson and Rickman found the body had not been part of their plotted searches.

"In the exact area where the body was found, there were no organized grid searches," said Box. "There had been numerous people in the area and none of those people saw the body. Because the kudzu was grown over, nobody could see her."

http://www.stategazette.com/story/1793716.html

Box stated the injuries to Swift's body, coupled with the placement of it, warranted the investigation to switch from a missing-person case to a murder investigation.

"Due to her body being placed and concealed in the area that it was recovered from and apparent injuries to her body it has been ruled a homicide," said Box in an interview with the State Gazette. "We are currently awaiting results of an autopsy from the medical examiner's office in Memphis to determine the cause of death."

The body was found in a place that is normally covered in kudzu, approximately 100 yards from a tall metal cross that sits high on a bluff. The cross is visible looking south from Highway 78, close to the Obion River Bridge.

Authorities attribute recent cold-weather conditions for suppressing and deadening the undergrowth that had Swift's body concealed from view.

I believe he meant that the body was placed there after death. In other words, they don't believe she was killed there.

For one thing, why would Karen go to a graveyard on Halloween night?

Got to wonder what happening with this case... figured by now there would be a press conference or news release. If it was a random or serial attack, wouldn't they say something about being on the lookout, or being careful?
