Just catching up and have to say... wow Clearly Lora got herself involved with all the wrong people.

NEWPORT (WATE) – District Attorney Jimmy Dunn said human remains found in Newport have been identified as missing woman Lora Costner.

Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes said a person of interest has been identified and was arrested on other related charges. Because it is a criminal investigation he said law enforcement is limited on what they can release to the community to “preserve the integrity” of the case.

This one is going to be interesting. From a petty thief to murderer? I wonder what the motive is going to turn out to be.

From what I also gather by looking at her Facebook page, it seems as if her husband/significant other passed away a few years ago. I get the impression that she is still grieving, bless her heart.

Where did you see that? I see photos of her with another man and being very happy.. People wishing them well, etc.

There's going to end up being some kind of a backstory here that none of us are aware of yet. The text to the school about her having a flat tire and running late sounds staged. Why staged ? Because the tire was slashed, it didn't just pick up a nail or a screw while running down the road. I'd venture to say something happened between these two sometime that day, and then the van was driven to that parking lot and abandoned. Obviously, he needed to get it at least some distance from his home and off of his property. He would've still been within walking distance of his home. I suppose it's also possible that he had someone follow him and give him a ride back home, but it's doubtful.

Sending the text about running late was a CYA move to deflect and confuse things. Apparently it worked, because nobody seemed to have a clue what happened to her until some remains were found on Cody's property.

why on earth would Lora, a very attractive woman, regardless of her age, be "hanging out" with this young punk, who is not the least bit attractive, in my personal opinion, he looks like a 15 year old going through puberty to me. I mean if I was gonna go for a younger guy, for whatever reason, I really think I would want to find a guy that was at least good looking.

If you go to Facebook and type in his name, he's got a page up. Most of his pics are at least a year old, but you'll get the idea. He looks like a really young adult, maybe 19 or 20.

It may turn out that this event had something to do with her daughter as well.........although I've seen nothing alluding to that.

Yea me either. I could see Lora going to confront him or a friend of his regarding her daughter but why continue to hang around with the kid?

the remains were not hers, they belong to megan maxwell missing since 2009

The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating after human remains were discovered Thursday.

Meagan Maxwell's remains were located November 2010. Lora Costner disappeared and was located in 2016.

Her body was found on property rented by McKinley Cody, a junkie. It was found by his father property owner Jerry Cody the day after the son was arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Cocke County Jail. Cody' s mother, Kathy Cody Williams, former 911 County Director, was arrested the same day as her son, as part of the smuggling drugs into jail for her son. I guess the Dad went over to do some spring work on his land or clean up after his son the next day and found Mrs. Costner' s remains.

It's pretty easy to read between the lines in this case, unlike some of them we see in here.

Looks like this friend of hers graduated from being a sneak thief to a murderer. She either called him for help when she got a flat tire, or he planted the van where it was found. According to the article, her van was fairly close to where the remains were found, as in walking distance.

They might want to keep an eye on this guy until after she is identified, he may try to blow town. They'll have him locked up within 24 hours after she's ID'd. I guess that's really all you can expect from a guy who's first and last name are in reverse order.

Cody's address listed in the paper and the church where the van was found are within walking distance of each other. I was assuming this was a crime of opportunity. But if Cody and Costner were dating, then she was using drugs too, IMHO. So sad. I wonder If he even remembers killing her. McKinley Cody is 19 & in jail now.

He may have been a low-level supplier. You know, sells a little pot here and there to his friends for extra spending money. Of course the same could apply to meth and a few other easy-to-get drugs. Lot's of times when friends buy drugs from friends, they have a tendency to hang out around each other and party a little bit while high as a kite. It was said in the media that they were known to interact with one another.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say this guy tried to make a move on her and got rebuffed, and he didn't take kindly to it. Was he high at the time ?? Probably.

The one article said they were together there several times... hinting that there was some sort of relationship.

It seems more likely there was a spat, her tires were slashed so she couldn't leave, and it escalated from there.

It had to be more than weed. Wendy up there said he was a junkie. Not to blaspheme the dead but dear Lora aged quickly within the past few selfies she posted. Could have been due to other stresses, but I do know drugs can ravage your skin quickly as well.

Either way, she didn't deserve this. Poor dear lady.

Crystal meth is notorious for sending people into rages, especially when mixed with hard alcohol. We may be dealing with something here a little more potent than pot, with that I agree. Meth will also cause people to have drastic weight loss, mainly because it kills your appetite and you have no urge to eat.

What a waste of life! And who is her poor elementary-aged son living with now?? Her husband passed four years ago, January 8th. RIP Lora.

Is it possible the kid didn't kill her? When it was just mentioned about the date of her late husband's passing it made me wonder if she might have went on a bender & possibly OD'd, then the kid freaked out?
The text to the school has always bothered me, Ive been dealing with schools for 22 years I wasn't aware one could text a school, unless maybe she had a friend that worked there, Idk, normally parents would just call the school. But the whole "I'm running late" scenario could've been done by the kid.
Depending on what drugs she partook in, or if she did at all, I'm just speculating here, she may have been completely passed out, or so he thought, then he realized it was close to pick up time & needed to get her coherent, so he texted someone, the school & started trying to wake her up, finally it sets in that she's dead already & he flips the F out, stages the scene to look as if she'd been kidnapped & buries her body.
