His wife worked for the same school system so she was most likely off, too.
I believe it was a teacher planning day only kids were off correct me if I'm wrong not 100% on that

I have a feeling he decided on teaching as a second career not because he actually wanted to teach but because he wanted to be around people who were on his emotional maturity level.

According to the link above, teachers are off too (and not in their classroom):

Non-Approvable Activities for In-service:
Parent-teacher conferences.
Teachers working in their rooms.
Putting grades on permanent record forms.
Business meetings for a professional association.
Coaching clinics/cheerleading clinics.
College courses for credit.

No it was "Professional Development" Day

http://culleokaschoolmauryk12.ss9.sharpschool.com/calendar

It is a teacher's in-service day. http://www.tennessee.gov/education/topic/inservice-guidelines (day off, basically)

So he must have been suspended by this time or he would have been required to be there, or maybe it was only a half day thing and he told his wife he had an interview later? Doesn't really matter because we already know what time he abducted ET.

The kiss occured on January 23rd, give or take a day. I forget.

He was suspended without pay on February 6th. This was only AFTER ET's father's lawyer sent the school a letter the week before basically asking WTF is going on and why didn't you alert the parent's - and get that teacher away from my kid!

He was not terminated from employment until 36 hours AFTER she went missing, on March 14th. Basically, the school said they terminated him BASED ON THE AMBER ALERT. They still have not acknowledged that he did anything wrong (i.e., kissing, etc.)

I re-watched the gas station surveillance video again to see if there was anything at all to glean. I think it is really creepy how TC turns to stare at Shoney's after filling up and just before getting in his car. Then he drives right to the Shoney's parking lot.

Do we know if ET was driven to Shoney's and dropped off by her friend or did her friend sit and wait with her?

I am so confused about the backpack. I wish we could get more clarity on who found it and why they didn't put in behind the counter. Someone must have looked in it. A poster reported in this thread that Shoney's just put it outside and someone took it (that does not seem right in any way)

Not necessarily teaming up with someone, but a sympathetic few that might help give him cover.

I mean they are hiding somewhere or it is the worst case scenario. With really no confirmed sightings after Decatur, they have to be off the grid or someone helping. Since ET's sister has said roughing it on the woods isn't ET's thing and this wasn't spur of the moment, it seems like there had to be a plan.

Also it seems to me that he is the type that would have to talk about this to someone other than her and he could have hooked up with someone online that thinks like him.

This is a very likely scenario, that someone is helping him or at least knows or knew of his secret before TC too off with ET. Maybe someone from the church, another teacher, or a long time friend of TC's.
In my niece's case with her teacher, he spent a long time grooming my niece and the girl he victimized prior to my niece. Part of the grooming process was mingling in situations that raised eyebrows with other teachers. The girl prior to my niece was older than my niece at the time of those incidents and at the age of 15, this teacher felt like he could open up to coworkers and friends and talk about a future together when the girl turned 18. Those teachers never came forward until after an international manhunt was over and the case was in court and evidence came up that put them in the spotlight. Those people no longer work with children because they violated mandated reporter laws, but they received little more than slaps on the wrist for not reporting inappropriate behavior of another teacher.

I'm sure there's probably at least one person that TC confided in.

I hope we get some news or new info today. I've travelled extensively in Costa Rica and a lot of the areas have a lot of Americans living there so it wouldn't be that they necessarily "stick out" so they may think they blend in-
Tiny hotels on the Caribbean coast especially are very remote and super cheap. And many times they never checked id they just wanted some payment and that's all-no proof of id required

I brought this up a few threads ago, I really think they bought a boat but someone quickly said it wasn't a likely scenario. I grew up in a boating family so I assumed it wasn't logical not all people know how to drive a boat, but then I got some confidence back and searched craigslist huntsville/decatur specifically under "boats" and there are a ton of them. Any chance the last pings were the phones going into the water after they picked up the boat.
I saw a '87 Cudy Cabin for $6900 (a boat that has sleeping quarters). I know he only got $4500 from the car loan. But has anyone considered, he didn't necessarily have to "cash out" his retirement plan, in most states you may take a loan and have 60 days to repay it. I don't remember off hand which states need spousal support but don't think Tennessee is one. He could also take a distribution from his account, yes he would have to pay exorbitant taxes but if he doesn't plan on paying taxes anymore who cares.

They have to attend workshops and activities, So not really off that day.

There is a chance it wasn't a regular off day for her since she worked in the administration.

But not at the school, they need to do "in-service" away from school.

The kiss was in January. He was suspended on February 6. He left with EC on March 13.
But the kiss became a police investigation and I'm not sure when that happened off the top of my head. It was later in the timeline when it happened. The police informed the school.

If he had bought a vehicle it seems much more reasonable to buy an RV than to buy a boat. JMO.

The problem with Costa Rica is the number of US and Canadians that are there.

They can travel for quite some time and not be recognized, if they stay away from the tourist locations. Eventually though, I don't think they can make a life there.

I agree that it is a possible location, but not long term.

The above is my opinion only.

We had a cabin cruiser when I was growing up, it could sleep 6 people and was surprisingly roomy. We spent many extended vacations on it...if TC managed to get his hands on one, they could be living in relatively comfy quarters right now. I don't know that he would have bought one, but I hope LE has checked to see if any of his friends own one. Once ours was out of the water for the winter, we wouldn't go anywhere near it again until close to Memorial Day. He could he "borrowing" one without knowledge.

Mon. Jan. 23, 2017 Cummins and Thomas were caught kissing

Tues., Jan. 24, 2017: Culleoka Unit School administration was notified by a student concerning an allegation of contact witnessed between Cummins and a student. The complaint stated, “It wasn’t like a make out kiss, just a peck on the lips.” Culleoka Unit School Administration gathered all information that day from the student who was said to have witnessed the alleged inappropriate contact.

Wed., Jan. 25, 2017: MCPS Chief of Staff, Dr. Amanda Hargrove, was contacted by Culleoka Unit School administration, and Dr. Hargrove immediately began an investigation.

Thurs., Jan. 26 – Mon., Jan. 30, 2017: As per Board policy 5.500 and 6.305, Dr. Hargrove and staff investigated the allegations by interviewing all pertinent parties, including students, staff and administration.

Fri., Jan. 27, 2017: The student named in the alleged concern was removed from Cummins’ class and schedule by Culleoka Unit School Administration.

Tues., Jan. 31, 2017: MCPS administration was notified by law enforcement that Cummins was the subject of a criminal investigation. MCPS turned over all known information and documentation to law enforcement about the recent allegations against Cummins at Culleoka Unit School, which were still under investigation by MCPS.

Tues. Jan. 31, 2017 Thomas' father was just now informed about the investigation and that the school found nothing to substantiate the claim.

Fri., Feb. 3, 2017: Late Friday afternoon, MCPS received an allegation that Cummins had been in contact with the same student, despite explicit directives from his supervisor not to interact.

Thomas was given in-school suspension for showing up in his classroom.

Mon., Feb. 6, 2017: At 8 a.m., Dr. Hargrove met with Cummins and suspended him from his duties at Culleoka Unit School.

March 13 - both Cummins and Thomas disappear together.

March 14 - Cummins’ final termination from MCPS was prompted by his allegedly fleeing the area on March 13, reported to MCPS by law enforcement. A termination document was finalized by MCPS.

You could easily steal a boat at night from numerous lakes there. Like I said on the other thread, it's Spring Break time in Alabama and when we are at the lake, we leave our boat and jetskis tied up at our dock the entire time, with keys in them. Everyone does.
