TBI director Gwyn said: "Let me be clear. She is 15, a child. He is 50, a grown man. She is a high school freshman. He is a former teacher. This is, and was not, a romance. This was manipulation solely to benefit Tad Cummings. This is not a fairy tale. This is a case of kidnapping."
IMO, that was the most powerful and meaningful statement of the PC. People who know more than they are sharing need to see this monster for what he is and start coming forward with information that can possibly save Elizabeth.

Sure, so long as you don't say that they take anyone it does.

The mission trips to these places take anyone and many times it is word of mouth. That statement was in response that people had to have a degree.

I've been following his Twitter as well...Lots of information. Until we find out from a mod if we can discuss it, we haven't been able to really dive into it yet.

Since he was researching teen marriage... Are there any states that allow marriage at 15 without a parent's permission? (Or for that matter, he might have obtained false documents giving her age as 16 or older.)

Personally, if he was smart enough to look into whether the car could be tracked, he had to have known the cell phone could be. One would think that the very first thing he would have done on taking her was to ditch their phones and get burners if needed to stay in contact. IMO, the ping pretty much had to be a set up - either they pinged the phone then turned around and went the opposite direction, or he gave the phone to someone else and they did it. Maybe even someone unwitting? What if he threw the phone in the back of a truck turned off - and later the truck driver found it and turned it on - would that cause a ping? Person might then have turned it back off, or the battery might have died.

About Kidnapping in general
Does kidnapping turn from a state offense to federal offense when state lines are crossed only?

Will crossing said lines also turn the charge from misdemeanor to felony, or are there different levels of kidnapping charges?

I hope I made some sense.
I was thinking there were various kidnappings. Also I know someone whose grown son was kidnapped, they found he was taken out of Alabama. The FBI became involved and the trial and charges were all federal.

Bravo TBI, Bravo. Now, let's work real hard to get ET home safe.
Thanks for posting, Aydrianna.

I know, I know, but you must admit she was putting it out there. Some other adult should have seen the signs.
We won't know the truth until they return/are found. Elizabeth was crying out for attention and not in a good way.
Yet when we see her helping her brother, she looks so adorable and sweet it is hard to connect her image with the Instagram account. I'm judging others too even though I know judging is bad - can't help myself.

"putting it out there". This is an example of how a pedophile works and how someone actions like what TC did can, even from afar, manipulate people to believe he's justified in his behavior. She "put it out there". Even you, an intelligent person who understands that we're discussing a child and a man who is more than three times her age, is trying to normalize this. Is it any wonder TC's friends, family, coworkers, neighbors and the entire community is behaving the way they are? No, she didn't "put it out there". I don't know how to be any clearer than this. His behavior was testing, he didn't start by sending her messages of "hey let's do it". he starts with simple things and works up to it. And when she's invested, he changes. It's like a whirlpool, once you get too close, you get sucked in over your head. She doesn't have the abilities an adult 50 year woman who is his equal would have, and he knows this. She doesn't have friends she can talk to to get perspective and help, she's new to school. She doesn't have a mother she can talk to, her mother is out of the picture. She can't talk to her father, he's got troubles of his own and she most likely thought she could handle it. She can't avoid him at school and she probably didn't even know if she told someone that she could be moved to another school, all she knows is he's there and he's in control. She's just getting settled in a good home, and she was most likely afraid the authorities might remove her from her Dad's home if they found about what was going on. No she wasn't "putting out there", she was merely trying to buy time until she could figure things out. Just want to also say that we have no idea what kind of pressure she was under from him. We know ET was being bullied, had she lost the protection of TC she may have felt that she would have been completely unprotected from the students who were bullying her. I stayed home from school for a few days "sick" because my friends wouldn't sit with me at the lunch table, I can't imagine trying to navigate all the pressures she was under. But no, she didn't put anything out there, she wasn't fishing for a 50 year old to use her for his lost youth fantasies, take her away from her home, her sisters, her dog and her life and isolate her from them. And if he was truly concerned for her safety, taking her on the open road, sending her sexually explicit messages and molesting her in school wasn't the most prudent way to find her help.

You are parsing words. It is perfectly legal according to TN for her to leave willingly and never be made to return home.

Well she doesn't face charges for running away, but he does for harboring a runaway.

Here's what I wrote earlier as to the possible charges:

1. Harboring a runaway - a misdemeanor, in TN. Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-15-0414. Up to 11 months in jail.
http://search.mleesmith.com/tca/39-15-0400.html
2. Aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor - a class B felony in TN. Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-17-1005. 8-30 years in prison.
https://www.tn.gov/assets/entities/t...20Offenses.pdf
3. Aggravated kidnapping - a class B felony in TN. Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-13-304. 8-30 years in prison. I think this applies ( i could be wrong) because he physically removed the child from her home by fraud (if it can be shown that he convinced her they could get married, for example), with the intent to commit sexual assault on her. http://www.helpingclients.com/Crimin...isonment.shtml
4. Kidnapping - federal charge.18 U.S. Code section 1201. 20 years to life sentence. This occurs if someone "unlawfully seizes, confines, inveigles, decoys, kidnaps, abducts, or carries away and holds for ransom or reward or otherwise any person, except in the case of a minor by the parent thereof, when—(1)the person is willfully transported in interstate or foreign commerce, regardless of whether the person was alive when transported across a State boundary, or the offender travels in interstate or foreign commerce or uses the mail or any means, facility, or instrumentality of interstate or foreign commerce in committing or in furtherance of the commission of the offense".Inveigles means persuades, so if he persuades a minor to cross state lines, he can be charged federally for kidnapping.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1201
5. Transportation of a minor - 18 U.S. Code section 2423 - Up to 30 years or 10 years to life.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/2423
6. Coercion and enticement - 18 U.S. Code section 2422 - up to 20 years.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/2422

Cops have said the emails were "romantic" and sexual in nature, so that ship has sailed.

You're right!

I have been following but not posting. I learned a lot from reading ET's father's Twitter account, especially from the tweets/replies to his last post 1 day ago. I'm surprised that information has not gotten more attention.

:(:(:(
