i don't think that's true, because the majority of people are heterosexual.
If what you said was true, that would throw stats way off. JMO

Notice I said "abuses," because the abuse spectrum is not only sexual. Same gendered teachers is not a tool to preventing abuse. Giving teachers the tools to spot, report, and be proactive when seeing crossed boundaries...is. Schools taking reports of boundary crossing seriously and having systems in place, prevents abuse. Having classroom rules and disciplining teachers who break them, prevents abuse. Educating teachers about red flags and behavior indications, prevents abuse. There is so much that can be done, that just isn't. There are all kinds of productive ways to prevent abuse, but same gendered teachers is not one of them. That hurts everyone, actually. It lulls schools and students into a false sense of protection, and students miss out on the perspective and talents of good teachers.

And...someone doesn't have to be homosexual to abuse a student of the same gender. Most pedophiles identify as straight, and many predators look for an easy victim...not a gender.

I work with abuse victims, and these myths about abusers only protect them and not the victims.

They need to make this nationwide. I live in Tampa and have not gotten amber alert on my phone and I live very close to RT. 75. They need to make this nationwide already.

How do you raise one case above others? All abductions should be broadcast nationwide. I don't think we have a good method to do that. IMO

I believe that ET's wheat and tomato allergy could be extremely helpful in finding her. While TC may have stockpiled food for her, there will come a point where they need fresh supplies or where they eat at a restaurant. I believe her allergy could call attention to them. Dietary restrictions make people stand out when placing an order, and it might help someone recognize ET and TC. I think that LE and other groups searching for them should call attention to ET's food allergies.

Kat, I am so sorry this has happened to your family. This is an absolutely heartbreaking situation. My dad's older sister took off with a man that her family disapproved of, and my dad never saw his sister again. This happened when I was very young, and I have no memories of my aunt, but I do have memories about how her disappearance broke my dad's heart. While I cannot know what you must be experiencing, I have witnessed the impact of a family member's departure. It is so painful. I am so truly, deeply sorry.
This IMO throws a red flag up due to her allergies. He knew about them. It is difficult to go out for food anywhere and find gluten free food that hasn't been cross contaminated.
If all he wanted was a "teenager", why wouldn't he choose one with no allergies? He obviously didn't think this out too much. It points to a lack of concern and planning and ups the chance of medical risk to a child that he snatched away from the safety of her family.
If he is in Mexico and she were to have a reaction, how easily can her get her medical help?
As much as he may have planned the kidnapping, this "health teacher" apparently didn't assess the risks of a medical emergency too well.
She didn’t even take her epi pen.
To add to that there has been a recall on them, so even of he obtained one it could be on the recall list.

Similar to how rape is not about sex but about control. Rape happens in prison a lot also.

But it doesn't appear that there is one agency that can make it nationwide. It looks like it is up to each state individually to determine whether an alert should go out.

Perhaps each of us can contact our respective state Amber Alert systems and see what needs to happen to extend the alert?

Totally agree

That might work, it went put in my state the same time it went out in TN, but it really went out way too late.

We had one this past Sunday here, it went out within 10 minutes of the abduction and they had that child back and the two on jail, just a few hours later.

Gaius - I also wondered if they weren't "fully off the grid, on their own".

I think it's plausible there is a third party contributing to their disappearance.

Not only the THIRD party, but also the potential location. Since the Thomas family members have roots in Indiana, Amber Alert in Indiana could make sense. Same, where is this TC from? May be he has friends in Mississippi (I just guessing), then Amber Alert in Mississippi makes sense.

From what I gather, the thought is that people would be inundated with AA's, and most of them are resolved fairly quickly. No need to cast an AA where a child has been taken by a parent and is clearly within a certain limit. For example, if childa lives in NY and noncustodial parent grabbed them from school and is on the road, an AA is issued and childa and parent are only on the road for 20 mins, they are clearly within the limits of NY and no reason, at that time, to alert let's say California. So they only widen the area for those that are truly able to logistically be in those areas. Think of how many people are missing on any given day, and if every AA went nationwide it would take forever for people to focus on any that might truly be in their area.

I believe he is from Mt Pleasant TN. Not sure if he has family in MS.

Well,if a child crosses state lines, that makes it federal,so it shouldn't be too hard to have the FBI mandate a
whole country amber alert. What is the harm in it? It can only help.

Yeah they couldn't do all of them nationwide. If I started getting them from CA all times of the day and night, I would turn them off on my phone.

Not just on this case, but others in the future, wouldn't it be great to have large missing posters on the backside of semi tractor trailers? They go all over and countless number of people would see it. Not sure on cost, just thought it would be a good idea.

Well, on a voluntary basis the federal agencies can, but other than that not really. It's a voluntary program. I would think a good case could be made in this instance to go nationwide, especially since they've gotten no credible leads and no sightings since they disappeared which would indicate they're out of the area of the current AA.

In this case its been 2 weeks---It should go national now because they could be in any state by now.

Yes, I understand the logistics behind that. Someone stated that the hunt for ET should be broadcast nationwide. I was simply asking how does one case rise above another in importance? IMO, they don't. IMO, all abductions are critical, whether it is children or adult abductees.

Oh yes I think this one for sure needs to go nationwide. I said the other day, they could have actually driven to Alaska long before now.

From what I have read just on this website, I think it's likely they have help from someone they know.
One single misguided family friend of ET, or a hobby-buddy of TC, and it is done. They are off the grid as this THIRD person does the groceries and all errands. The two takes turn to go out with this THIRD party. If it is woman, you see two women and you are looking for a couple. If it is a man, you see two men and … off the grid.

Nothing stopping people from printing her flyer and making a removable sticker that you can put on your vehicle. Remember too, when you post missing flyers to put them in sheet protectors so the elements don't destroy them.
