How stupid is he? And once he lands in Mexico by boat, then what? You just lost the car and any transportation anywhere.

It's interesting that he planned to keep heading South, beyond Mexico.

I have to think that the test run didn't go as planned, and that's why they headed North. Maybe trying to Canada?

And if his boating skills are similar to his camping/wilderness survival skills...

The defendant admitted to the following facts: -

The defendant left Tennessee at a time when he knew he was the subject of an investigation about engaging in improper sexual behavior with the juvenile victim because he had been interviewed multiple times by officials about his involvement with the victim. The logical inference is that the defendant fled in early March 2017 because he did not want to await the outcome of the investigation since it was likely to lead to criminal charges against him and, therefore, he fled to avoid criminal charges. -

The defendant intentionally employed measures to elude capture by law enforcement after fleeing Tennessee. Such measures included switching vehicle license plates twice, disabling the vehicle’s GPS system, using aliases for both himself and the victim, altering the appearance of his vehicle, altering his appearance, using back road routes, conducting cash only transactions, intentionally discarding known cellular telephones, leaving a deliberately misleading note with his wife regarding his direction of travel, monitoring news media outlets from a device procured during fugitive status for current information regarding the investigation, and staying at low profile locations, including hotels with relaxed check-in requirements and commune-type communities. -

The defendant had plans to attempt to escape across the United States border to Mexico. He then planned to seek passage to countries further south of Mexico. In furtherance of this plan, the defendant procured a small watercraft and conducted a test run to cross into Mexico across the water from San Diego. The defendant also considered the feasibility of a land crossing into Mexico.

Would "a kiss" lead to criminal charges?

Today's info pretty much confirms he was having an inappropriate sexual relationship with her way before they left and it was more than a kiss. He also attempted to leave with her before they finally disappeared, what stopped him? Now we know why ET was conflicted and told her sister to call authorities. She may have very well thought it was for a short get away.

A rental? (credit card prob. necessary though) A stolen one?

He probably rented a boat while he was still in TN for the dry run, and then discarded the idea. IMHO. Is there a lake near Columbia, TN?

:cow:

I love that he's spilling his guts, likely because he thinks he can convince them he was trying to protect her.

This is not going to work out the way you think it will work out, buddy.

BBM I'm going to venture that ET was trying to control the situation and she told her sister this as a cry for help. ET knew she was in over her head and wanted the police to save her. She was conflicted about even meeting with him that morning, further evidence that she was hoping someone would stop this.

Drive the car across the border, park and walk back over. Put himself & ET on the watercraft and go around the small fence in the surf. It was probably more heavily guarded than he expected, though, and/or he found out that the nationwide/international alerts for him would not allow him to use his passport for the car drop off/return?

I bet they are stroking his ego and flattering him with his "planning skills" and his success of evading them for weeks and he's just a fountain of information.

In this town? Probably not. I'm sure the DA knows of some loophole that allows for relations between teachers and students.
But in any other town? Yes, a kiss is technically an offense. But then so would the back rub be, and the school allowed that, so it's unlikely that the kiss would have led to criminal charges. It was what went along with the kiss that he was worried about.

I don't think he did. I think he was lying to save his own money.

but he barely had enough gas and food money by the time he arrived near BBR.

But no one bothered to even check the school's server until the FBI got involved. If the investigation stayed at the school/local LE stage, I bet he would have probably gotten away with it.

He's had plenty of opportunity to come clean. I'm going to bet there's far more to the story. IMO he's only saying what he needs to to appear remorseful.
