I agree, I don't know why he would attempt that. They could have accomplished the same thing much easier, by simply driving or walking across the border. Maybe he did research and realized that if they crossed the border, they would be trapped in the Mexican Border Zone, and have no way to continue on or return to the US.

It was stated in an article that he knew he couldn't drive or walk across due to ET's not having a passport. (And even if she'd had a passport, they'd have likely been caught due to the nation-wide alert. He apparently used his real ID when asked for documentation at motels.)

His plan was to kayak across the border. Much easier. Anybody who could paddle a boat could do that, even if they can't swim.

do we know what AT does for a living? whether or not KT gets convicted and should he still retain custody, just wondering how difficult it would be for them to relocate. do they have family in another state? not that leaving home is the answer...i'm hoping ET gets reacclimated, sympathetically, into the community but i'm not that optimistic. at this point. JMO.

IMO, this school was so negligent in the way this case was handled from the beginning, ET's family will win a suit of the Board of Education.

Additionally, the BOE owes ET an education! It is their responsibility to furnish it wherever the family attorney, psychiatrists, and ET feel this can be accomplished with the least confrontations for ET.

Bless her heart. If this is not a big enough mess for her to deal with, her Mother's trial is coming up soon. Will she have to testify at it? I sure hope not.

My opinions only.

I am very concerned about ET's education along with her mental health. This poor child went from being abused by her mother, to being bullied at school, to being isolated, sexually abused, and taken across several states. She was dirty, hungry, and cold by the time she was rescued. That's a pretty hard start to life. The bright spot is that she does have a father and siblings who truly love and care for her. However, her home schooling was allegedly sorely lacking, according to her sister. She has a lot of healing to do, and a lot of catch-up on her education. Then there are the court proceedings. Ugh. I just want a better, brighter future for her. There's just so much for her to get through and overcome right now.

Experienced attorneys never say anything to the media without a purpose in mind. I believe this is an experienced attorney. To me it appears he is entirely comfortable (even proactively so) with media-sharing anything personal about ET if it furthers the case against TC. Because of the unfortunate publicity resulting right after his client and her abductor were found, he has made it quite obvious (to me at least) that his proactive intent is to as much as possible repeatedly portray ET as young, defenseless, and helpless. And if emphatically calling her a "little child" who looks younger than twelve, or allowing media to film her sister in her bedroom with ET's "My Little Pony" sheets, stuffed animals, and security blanket does the trick, then so be it.

Well his information was wrong. There is no passport control entering Mexico. You just walk through a turnstall and you are in Mexico, or you just drive across. There is no reason to risk getting eaten by a shark.

Yes. It was years ago and we walked across to hit the shopping district. They would only need a passport to return. Not sure when crossing by car.

I never understood it either when traveling by air or ship a passport required. Yet one can simply walk into Tijuana. I had our passports out expecting some sort of check. You walk into a sea of cabbies with clipboards wanting to take you where ever. Crossing back in was a long line. Passport required and any bags are put thru xray.

You would have to at very least show a Driver's License to get back to the US. Mexico doesn't care who visits their country. If you want to stay in Mexico longer than a few days, or travel to the interior of Mexico, then you would have to show them a passport at some point.

Yup, I did that, too a few years ago. I wasn't sure if the rules had changed since then. I've never driven in, so not sure what you need for that.

ETA: Another reason that the kayaking plan was a totally wacko idea. Just walk across!

Been saying this since the beginning. You only need a passport to return to the US. The problem isn't getting into Mexico, it's getting back home.

I think the reason he didn't walk across is pretty simple--he needed a vehicle.

Someone posted a good scenario earlier wondering if maybe the plan was to get ET into Mexico via boat, then TC would cross back over into the US, get the SUV, then go back to Mexico and get ET.

My experience is also that getting back IN to the US is only time passport was needed.

Also I think the lawyer needs to put out there as much as he can to counteract the "runaway" thoughts. Especially in that area where a jury maybe pulled from. There seems to be an overwhelming thought that ET knew what she was doing and this lawyer is trying to get it out there that she is young and not a mature 15 year old which will help her case IMO.

Now is that embarrassing yes I'm sure but not more embarrassing than stuff already out in the media and probably all the rumors/gossip in that town. I've read she has a trauma team so hopefully she's getting the best care.

Maybe ET has even been asked whether she would be OK with them showing things to help the case? My Little Pony is hardly embarrassing, many teenagers admit to liking MLP nowadays - ever heard of Bronies? The security blanket may be something her peers already knew about - she brought it to school, didn't she? Of course this is all my opinion, I don't know what ET is going through.
