Skinny Jeans = No Weapon???
... Apparently Anthony had been in a physical alteration with his girlfriend, her family called the cops.... Mother of slain teen's girlfriend asks why police fatally shot him
@yahaint sbm Thx for your post. More from link:* "Before Clabough left, he asked if there was any reason to believe Thompson might be armed. Perkins said she was careful to emphasize she didn't think so. Her daughter, Perkins said, even explained that Thompson was wearing skinny jeans and had nowhere to conceal a weapon." bbm
Okay, but baggy pants & hoodie are not needed to hide a weapon, because both a knife and gun can be concealed somewhere other than on one's person, for ex., backpack, duffel, locker, or a cutaway textbook. Or hidden in classroom desk, lunchroom table, gym equipment, a bush or tree outside school buildings, in his or friend's car on campus, etc.

I'm not criticizing Mother or dau, not saying shots fired by either Thompson or LEOs on scene were or were not justified.

Just saying in many situations non-LEOs view as low risk, LEOs must be prepared for gunfire or other deadly force attack directed at them. Even by teens wearing skinny jeans in school buildings. my2ct.

Sad, sad, sad for all involved, Thompson, Girlfriend, their families, friends, the whole community.

School "Allowed" Them to Interact?
From linked article: "Those last few months included physical fights, two suspensions and complaints from Perkins to the school to intervene and separate the two students.
"Perkins is bothered that her daughter and Thompson were even allowed to interact at the school after they had been suspended...
."
Seems the girl's Mother was trying to address the situation she saw as unhealthy.
Question: What actions can a school take to prohibit two students from "interacting" w ea other? Other than
suspension or expulsion for one or both students?

My high school years were so long ago even the A.P. writing classes were still using cuneiform on clay tablets. ;)
Seriously, I have no idea what schools can do to address a situation like this. Anyone? TiA.

Boy, 17, shot dead by police at school after he 'beat up his girlfriend' and her mom called cops | Daily Mail Online

"A 17 year-old boy was shot dead by police at his school after his girlfriend's mother called officers to claim her daughter had been beaten up by him.

Anthony Thompson was reported to police in Knoxville, Tennessee, last Monday hours before his death. Regina Perkins - the mother of Thompson's girlfriend Alexus Page, 17, says she did so over claims Thompson pulled Alexus's hair during a fight at school, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

Police said Thompson had a gun inside Austin-East Magnet High School in east Knoxville later Monday and was shot to death in a confrontation with officers in a bathroom, sparking a lockdown."

#BREAKING The DA says she WILL release @Knoxville_PD body camera footage from an officer-involved shooting that left @AustinEastHS student #AnthonyThompsonJr dead - now that the investigation is complete and now that the family has seen video. @wvlt https://t.co/qYOH0wK839

Per the DA this was a justifiable homicide. She described when the police entered the bathroom Anthony's stall door was open, they told him to stand up and keep his hand out of his hoodie pocket repeatedly. There was a scuffle and at some point before or during the scuffle they saw the gun. Anthony shot it through the hoodie pocket then Claibogh shot back twice, in defense of himself and the other officers. Anthony was hit first and Officer Wilson hit second.

The news channel only showed their very heavily edited version of the video so will have to find an unedited one to see all the details.

My first impression after watching this (I did stop early, after the bathroom footage in slo-mo) is....wow, what an incredible amount of footage. I don't recall a case with so much.

Also, the bathroom scene is not at all how I envisioned it.

After this video and the one from OH that was released today, I have a new understanding at how observant officers have to be and how fast things go.

Here's a timeline of what happened on April 12 based on Allen's presentation of bodycam video, 911 calls and text messages.
Between 12:30 p.m. and 12:48 p.m.: Thompson and his girlfriend get into two fights at Austin-East, and the girlfriend's mother, Regina Perkins, tells police that Thompson pushed her and pulled her hair. After the fights, the girlfriend calls her mother and signs out of school.

1:16 p.m.: Perkins texts Thompson, telling him she plans to call the police and to "stop putting ur gd hands on her."

1:17 p.m.: Security video at Austin-East shows Thompson running out of the school into the parking lot, and then back into school. Thompson stays in the hallway and stairwell, then paces in the parking lot while talking on his cell phone for 12 minutes.

1:59 p.m.: Perkins makes a 911 call to report the domestic incident that her daughter told her occurred at Austin-East.

2:12 p.m.: Officer Jonathon Clabough arrives at Perkins’ house and takes a report of the domestic incident. He talks with both Perkins and her daughter about what happened.

2:16 p.m.: Thompson enters a school bathroom, where he remains until the police shoot him some 55 minutes later.

2:23 p.m.: Perkins and Thompson again exchange texts. Perkins sends Thompson a photo of the police car and Clabough outside her house. Cnt’d at link.
Anthony Thompson Jr. timeline: What happened before police killed teen

Anthony J. Thompson Jr. shouldn't have died, shot to death by police Monday in a bathroom at his high school, says Regina Perkins, the mother of Thompson's girlfriend.

Perkins told Knox News she is heartbroken and sick about Thompson's death, grieving for him and his family, and questioning how Knoxville police handled their approach to the 17-year-old junior at Austin-East Magnet High School on the day he was killed.

KFD Investigating After Someone Set Fire On Porch Of Anthony Thompson Jr.'s Girlfriend's Home

"The Knoxville Fire Department started an arson investigation after someone lit a fire on the porch of Anthony Thompson Jr.'s girlfriend's home, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

A KPD incident report said an officer responded to the home around 4:40 p.m. on Sunday after a neighbor noticed a fire on the front porch.

KFD was already on the scene extinguishing the fire from a gas can left on the porch, according to the report.

Officials said no one was home at the time.

Ring doorbell footage captured images of the male suspect wearing a gray shirta and yellow shorts. He's also wearing a hat and a mask which make it difficult to see his face, according to KPD."

Pic of Thompson's Gun?
At long April 21 presser, District Attorney General Charme P. Allen showed LE body cam vid's of the shooting and said (Iirc, just my paraphrasing) that officers realized - Thompson was holding a gun by the squarish barrel shape, showing thru kangaroo-pouch pocket of Thompson's jacket, and that officer(s) recognized it as a Glock.
Gun in this FB pic below may be the same gun Thompson used in shooting at the officers.

Maybe another poster can verify whether gun in pic is a Glock and compare it to the still pic of Thomson's gun on the floor in presser vid at 1:43:00 to 1:47:38. TiA.

The gun he is holding in the photo is definitely a Glock. Looking at the muzzle it appears to be a 9mm Lugar (9x19mm). The muzzle hole is too small to be a .40 S&W, 10mm or a .45ACP

At 1:48:55 in the video you posted, the TBI's report identifies Thompson's gun as a Glock G45 (G45 is the model number, not the caliber).

Glock's website says this about that model:
"Glock 45 - Compact Crossover in black - The compact crossover pistol G45 in 9x19mm combines a compact slide with a full size frame and has all the benefits of a Gen5 model."

The suggested retail price is about $650.00 for a legal purchase. I don't know if it would cost a 17 year old more or less to acquire one illegally.

Yes, I'd have to say that the gun he is holding is the gun that wound up on the bathroom floor unless he had more than one Glock.

Thompson's Gun & Ammo?
When shooting occurred at the school, Thompson had hidden the handgun in his jacket pocket.

Where it was before then? The presser vids* show him hanging out in school hallways for a couple hours and sometimes exiting the bldg. One time he walked some distance across parking lots and was out of sight/off camera briefly, then retraced steps to re-enter bldg. Earlier that day did he bring gun onto school grounds or close by (underneath a dumpster, in bushes, or a friend's car) and hide it there for the day?
Another student opened the door to admit him to the bldg. Did Thompson, maybe w gun in pocket, choose that door to bypass metal detectors or other security features at other entrances?

How and when was a fully loaded magazine w 17 rounds
(1:47:58 on vid) in it hidden inside his Air Jordan fanny pack (1:47:53. on vid)?
How and when was the non-transparent fanny pack w that magazine placed inside Thompson’s clear – yes, literally transparent – backpack
(1:47.18 on vid) which he had on him?

For assistance in locating Thompson, the three LEOs went to school security office first and talked w a School Resource Officer (or School Security Officer?) Were they briefed on Thompson's behaviors/disciplinary history? Would it have made any difference?

Officials Said Foster Admitted To Purchasing The Firearm And Providing The Firearm To Thompson Jr. In Exchange For Cash And Marijuana

"A man has been arrested and charged with providing a handgun to an Austin-East Student killed during an officer-involved shooting in April, according to Prosecutors in District Attorney General Charme Allen’s Office.

Kelvon Foster, 21, was charged with providing handguns to juveniles Friday morning.

According to a warrant, 17-year-old Anthony Thompson Jr., who was killed during a shooting incident at Austin-East High School, went to Harvey’s Pistol & Pawn on April 5.

At the pawnshop, Thompson allegedly met with Foster and viewed the handguns for sale before leaving the business. Officials said Foster then purchased the Glock Model 45 9mm handgun. Foster later met Thompson in a parking lot off Broadway in Knoxville and handed over the gun.

On April 12, Knoxville Police responded to Austin-East in an attempt to apprehend Thompson Jr. as a part of a domestic violence investigation. Upon arrival, officers located Thompson Jr. inside a school restroom. TBI officials said that officers ordered the student out, but he refused to comply."
