The worst part about it, if this guy was as high as a kite when all of this happened, he may not even remember doing it.

Detectives know that Burgess, 36, was last heard from by her best friend via text message on the afternoon of May 23rd. “Caleb” was referenced in that message. Later in the afternoon, Cannon, who had visitation privileges with the 10-year-old every other weekend, picked him up from school. They then went to Nichole Burgess’ Oak Vale Drive home in Hermitage. Nichole Burgess was not present. (According to Cannon !! ) Cannon took the child to Anderson County later in the evening. The 10-year-old is now in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services while the investigation continues.

I felt the need to do a little journalistic editing to the above article. It's the part in red.

The friend went to Burgess' home in Hermitage and noticed her car was parked out front and her dogs were walking around freely instead of in their crates. Police also searched the residence, finding Burgess was not there. Her dogs had defecated on the floor several times and had run out of food.

A neighbor said he/she saw two people carrying something out of the home's back door on May 24.

This article is very confusing from a standpoint of establishing a timeline of events. Be sure to read the comment section below the article to see what I mean. I have to assume this is some rookie journalist who isn't all that interested in fact checking or accuracy. That being said, you still get a pretty good overall idea of where all of this is leading.

Oh WoW! How very sad.. The ten year old son, when asked by his friend where his mom was, answered that he was pretty sure his mom was dead and that his dad had killed her!.. And this was prior to the investigation, or her even having been reported as missing, yet. Poor child, how very traumatic, he will need lots of love and therapy to help this little man work through all of this tragedy that's essentially left him, now, an orphan :(

I don't think its Nikki, but so sad for whoever this victim's family are in their learning of her murder by this monster, Gregory Hale. From what I could find it appears that after he murdered his victim, he dismembered her, and then was asking around to find someone to help him dispose of his victim's remains..which led to LE being contacted.

Person Of Interest Named In Disappearance Of Hermitage Woman

CREATED 9:21 PM
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A person of interest has been named in connection with the disappearance of a 37-year-old Hermitage woman.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said 33-year-old Caleb Cannon, who lives in Anderson County, has been implicated in the disappearance of Nikki Burgess. He has not been named as a suspect in the case.

Burgess has been missing for more than two weeks and Metro Police believe she is deceased.

“At this point the police department believes it likely that likely Ms. Burgess is deceased and we are continuing our efforts to find out what happened to her,” said Don Aaron spokesman for the Metro Nashville Police Department.

“We know he arrived to pick up his son from school late, so late in fact that other students who attended the same school were already home,” said Aaron.

One of those classmates, who regularly plays with the victim's son, told police he saw Cannon and the victim's son at the home after school. The victim's son reportedly told the classmate, “He might not be seeing his mom anymore, because she is probably dead,” and that “He was pretty sure that his dad had killed his mom.”

Court documents also stated the boys sat down inside the house for a few minutes and Cannon would not let them play video games in one room or go into the bathroom because the toilet was broken.

Yesterday morning, I read some of the most heartfelt emotions from a soul so close to Nikki...and it brought tears and then......

Last night I saw this report and my heart just ached. It's the most we have gotten from any reports yet. The family knew most of this very early on, but could not say anything because of the investigation. I somewhat knew why, Child Protective Services has the younger son in custody, this report also made that a little more clearer.

There is miles and miles of lakes, streams, woods, and off the beaten path roadways from Nashville to Knoxville. I now wonder if her young son, knows of or where they may have stopped along the way...or if the reason why the POI was so late, she was already put somewhere.

During a second search of Burgess' home, cadaver dogs picked up the scent of a decomposing body.

Investigators soon began looking at Caleb Cannon as a person of interest. Search warrants show the Anderson County Sheriff's Office towed Cannon's car from his Andersonville home on June 1st. Two cadaver dogs sniffed human remains in the trunk of that car.

Police say they believe Cannon killed Burgess and drove her body from her Davidson County home to an unknown location.

I do not know much about how CPS works.

Is it possible the son is being held in order for LE to gently gain information in their controlled environment (in what ever form they would question a child this age)?

I would think that a family member would certainly come forward to take the boy in, or even a loving friend of Nichole's would want to make sure he was cared for. I am guessing it makes sense at this point that the boy either had direct knowledge or suspicions very early on. The comments that he made to his little friend just rip my heart out.

CANNON MAN UP, tell where Nichole is and let your son, FCS, be an innocent 10yr old. You are using your child as a human shield-🤬🤬🤬 COWARD.

Safety probably. If dad is not arrested dad could come after him for knowing too much.

Just my opinion along with a few others. They also may have him in protective custody, so that any defense attorney could not say, that any family member he is with right now, could not influence what he may or may not have seen, with "suggestive" conversation.
Otherwise, I would think that Nikki's family in Crossville, would have him in a heartbeat.
