Wow, I am surprised that the disappearance of this man isn't getting more press--he's quite well-known for his advocacy of veterans' issues and for being a successful entrepreneur of a moving company that employs veterans.

Nick Baucom (profile from CNBC's "Blue Collar Millionaires")

https://www.washingtonpost.com/busi...8594ba-27d0-11e4-8593-da634b334390_story.html (article from the Washington Post about Baucom's business, Two Marines Moving Co.)

I thought it was peculiar that all the announcements about NB being missing state that he is NOT being sought in connection with a crime--that disclaimer doesn't appear very often in such announcements, at least in my experience. This is just conjecture but I can't help but wonder if the authorities are obliquely referring to the terrorist attack on the U.S. Capitol building last Wednesday (he self-identifies as a Libertarian on his FB page, but that was last updated a year ago, so perhaps his political leanings have evolved in a direction similar to those of the folks who attacked the Capitol?). The circumstances under which he went missing are pretty vague, and it's unknown who reported him missing or asked law enforcement to locate him. If it becomes known that he's missing not of his own volition, I hope authorities will make a more concerted effort to find him!

I'm sure they're just saying it because of the timing to make sure people understand he's unconnected to them trying to track down insurrectionists.

Is he a veteran himself?

According to Vinelink he’s not in custody so I’m assuming he posted bond after his arrest, and then went missing this week

Giving this a lot of side-eye given his recent arrest and the timing of his disappearance.

Why would a guy who owns such a successful company stay in a Motel 6? I understand being frugal, but not even a Holiday Inn Express or a Marriott?

I thought the same thing, but then wondered if he may have preferred the location of this establishment (it looks to be at the interchange of 2 major highways, so would’ve been convenient getting on/off the road, and it is also located pretty close to 3 state parks/wilderness areas (4 miles from Cherokee Park, 6 miles from the Johnson Ridge Small Wild Area and 10 miles from Panther Creek State Park). I hope these areas have been checked out for signs of his vehicle or himself— there have been several sad cases on WS lately where depressed people have simply driven themselves to a park or nature preserve and taken their own lives, and I could imagine that a “high achiever” like Mr. Baucom might be in mental distress following his arrest in DC—especially if what he was arrested for was considered a felony, which could have repercussions for his business and his career prospects...
