Here you can see the terrain they have to search. Trees are leave-less.

I wonder if that is how the area looked where the grandma and two children were walking. Because you can actually see a pretty good distance. I am certainly not pointing a finger at anyone. But I am not understanding how she could turn to talk to the 4 year old and not see him...even if he had run a bit of a ways away from her.

But maybe the area they were in looked different than in those photos.

If he crawled under a pile of leaves it could keep him warm. But if he fell asleep it would be very hard to find him.

I wondered about hearing him move around after he first ran off. Sound travels pretty good through the woods and even if he stopped to hide I just don't see a two year old being able to be quiet for any length of time. Prayers for his parents and his grandmother. The fear must be excruciating for them.

I wonder, too. Maybe he fell into a sinkhole nearby? I'm sure they must have searched the immediate area thoroughly, though! And if a child predator took him, that is way too open an area to try to get away with a crime like this. He'd have to be the most opportunistic and crafty kidnapper ever. An animal predator would have caused a scream one would think. There seems to be no reason at all to suspect foul play from the family. And the little girl is a witness, anyway.

My only idea is that the grandma might have turned her back for more than a couple seconds. She might have underreported this time... but I don't think she was neglectful or anything. Just maybe was distracted for a few minutes. That would be enough time IMO for a boy to scamper away and explore. And also all she would do is start walking/looking in the wrong direction and she's putting a lot of distance between herself and the child by mistake.

Can't believe we've not heard anything yet. It's heartbreaking and his family must be going out of their minds.

Its like the ground just swallowed him up...... as I type this maybe that happened!! I do hope they've searched extremely close to where he was last seen for sinkholes.

Hang in in there little man <3

Those leaves are totally a camouflage nightmare when looking for a tiny little boy..ugh. My son when he was about 10 hid himself in a pile of leaves like those on the side of the road, I had went to meet the school bus and pick him up. He was not at the school bus stop as he had already gotten off the bus and dug himself into the ditch with the leaves, he popped up on the side of the road as I drove by and about scared me to death, and I never would have seen him had he not popped up.. So scary. Does anyone know what local wildlife they have in this particular area of Tennesee?

True and leaves make a lot of noise too.

I was wondering the same.

Was it windy? Grandma might not have thought much of rustling leaves when he ran off.

IMO it was probably close to impossible to keep the 4 year old quiet enough to be able to hear him in the distance. Especially if they were standing in leaves.

A weird question, if he fell in a sinkhole, might that give him some protection from the elements, keeping him warmer overnight? Dehydration though...and when someone falls into a sinkhole, does the ground fall back on top of them (hate to type that), or is it more like a tunnel where the top is exposed and there is airflow? Or does it just depend? I know nothing about sinkholes, but did see on the sinkhole maps I posted yesterday that they can really vary in size from small to huge.

Yeah, I wouldn't count too much on hearing leaves rustle. For one thing, that sound is very low in terms of decibels. Plus, I don't know the terrain here but my experience in hiking in eastern Tennessee and the PNW has been that forest floors tend to be a little damp most of the time anyway. Mind you, my hikes were in older growth areas, so denser than what the Twitter pics showed. Maybe a local could answer it better.

I'm not sure he "ran" off. From what I can understand, they were playing and kind of exploring nature and then grandma sat down to give her attention to the 4 year old. It could have been 10 minutes since she last saw Noah, just assuming he was right there playing.

Not that I think this happened necessarily, but wondering if there have been any attempted abductions reported in the area involving young boys?

Been reading the thread and my first guess would be to search the lake/pond nearby.. From what I've read coyotes are plentiful and cougars have been spotted in this area of TN. Due to the time of day that he vanished, fortunately wildlife/predators; coyotes, coy dogs, cougars, etc., are normally nocturnal or early morning and late evening hunters. Coyotes regularly prey upon small dogs, farm animals, and other pets for food. Coyotes; predators by their nature are exploiters of opportunity. However, if a predator perceives an advantage, they will exploit it.

I'm from Pickwick, TN and helped out in the Easter 2011 weekend search for Holly Bobo. Both locations are about 60 miles away. I would assume the terrain and trees in this area of TN are very similar. The photos of the area being searched from the #FIND NOAH twitter should be synonymous to the area where he vanished, imo.

I don't have an answer margarita, I just wanted to say I thought of you when I saw the tweet this morning about searching sinkholes. IIRC, the maps you posted yesterday showed the deeper/larger sinkhole areas as being further east. Hopefully any in this area are a little shallower and more easily searched. Poor little guy. :(

Just trying to think of some other possibilities...any chance he was kidnapped for ransom, and perhaps no contact has been made due to all the heat? Or maybe some crazy woman/person who wants a kid, as mentioned upstream. Or someone seeking revenge against the family. No custody issues that I've read...

I wonder if the grandma can recall seeing anyone else out there on the trail?

What about search drones?

Do we know how far out the searchers have looked?

Out of curiosity, I went back to check the little boy who accidentally got away from his mom in Arizona at a camp sight in August, Jerald Joseph Williams. He was 5 years old and was found about 5 miles from where he was last seen. It is believed he walked out of the woods onto a service road which would have made his walk much easier.

I was just curious how far a two year old might be able to walk in the time he has been gone. Of course, he is not on flat ground either which would slow him down.
