(Marking these posts to add to my other ones)
(Note to bring forward Chief's time line of responders reported yesterday in PC)

Yeah, it sounds like Noah and his sister have gone on many nature walks with Grandma. The surrounding forest is something like 600 acres. It's hard to see where the trails are in Google maps but there are probably a ton of deer trails throughout. It was reported that there are also lots of briers, gullies, rough terrain. And there are not only ponds but creeks in the area. The ponds were searched and cleared on the first day but I haven't heard anything about creeks. I assume they've been checked too.

Where are you Noah? :(
Map, map

For shading:
600 acres =0.938 square mile

With the recent heavy rains throughout December and 2016 all of the bottom lands are very flooded. There have been at least two rescues from the Loosahatchie in Memphis recently. The South Fork of the Forked Deer River around Pinson is also high right now.
Hunters and outdoor canoeing folks have been warned but you can't keep a duck hunter out of the flood waters tho, it seems.

Mark these areas on map for reference, look up current flow tables, etc.

I found the trails on a Zillow search trying to get a lay of the land. Absolutely gorgeous area. I would move there in a blink if DH would.
Stay strong Noah!
Link please? Tia.

Do we know how far in the woods Grandmother and the children were when Noah was noticed to be missing?

Nothing official, but it was posted upthread that they were about 700 feet into the woods on a path. Somebody posted a map image of the location last night.

700 feet =0.133 mile

Update on #FindNoah: the six missing searchers were moved to a new group; the command count was off and some vests were missing.

What's so painful here (apart from Noah being missing) is that the search operation has been amazing. We don't know how long Grandma waited before calling 911 but once she did the first responders arrived within ten to twenty minutes.

Dogs arrived within two hours, helicopters equipped with IR were immediately called in, troops with IR devices were on the ground. LE decided to allow civilian searchers in very quickly - we complain about LE delaying that in other cases but here they did let them in. Over a thousand people searched day and night, including Noah's family.

And still Noah wasn't found. Honestly I can't think of anything more that could have been done. The community response has been overwhelming, LE has kept us updated.

Even though Grandma couldn't possibly have had the foresight I wish Noah had on something brightly colored. A gray shirt is going to be tough to spot. When we owned large property in the mountains it didn't occur to me to wear bright clothing until we learned that trespassers were hunting in the woods. I bought a neon vest in order to be safe - on my own property.

No one can be expected to anticipate every possibility and my heart just breaks for this woman who was doing something wonderful with her grandkids - taking them on a fun and educational walk in the woods.

I'm rambling now - I guess it's nerves while we wait for the expected news. :tears:

These are random as i read posts...

How long does it take that many volunteers to search a certain. Square mile area... so say they got at least 20 at first and started looking immediately then added more progressively...in perhaps a circle search area...?

Also if it were mine I would want everyone walking a certain radius around the house itself...even dogs wind up backtracking when lost (I've helped search and trap a few home runaways) so if lost he could have done that easily by accident...Is that how they grid iut the search...in one area squared or a circle. Wouldn't a circle be more proficient since location is definitely unsure....

If he was in the other direction which I seem to think happens a lot (from some cases I've read on here ) wouldn't it be prudent to check opposite ways as well because of time being really important in this weather and his age

If they already do this then OK great or if there's a reason they don't I'd like to know. These are more Sar questions I realize...

I just think as a mom I'd be everywhere.. lost...Completely running around anywhere around the house before the intense linked hand search.

If they did a heat helicopter he'd have to be under something to not be seem correct? Or in water? Did they do that? That's be the next place i would go probably immediately...

Sorry just random thoughts flying around my brain if this were mine or someone I know

I remember something from Heather Elvis's case, I think it was, CUE searchers were each equipped with a GPS tracker while assigned their designated grid areas. After they returned from searching, their GPS movements were analyzed on the computer and looked to see specifically if any coordinates were missed.

Wow they were really into the woods weren't they...
Funny, (not funny), I was just going to say, "wow, they were really close to the house, weren't they?" That's less than a quarter of a mile. I think a lot of how we all feel about children missing in the wilderness has to do with our personal experience in the woods. I personally looked at that distance and felt it was totally within reason that he may have headed toward the road. Again, hoping they check every inch of the roadside on the way to his parents' home, if what we think is true about where the parents live in relation to the point of where he went missing.

RE: Wildlife Cameras

Although Noah wasn't caught on any of the cameras. Wonder what types of wildlife has been caught on camera.. Noah; a 25 pound two year old child vanishing in the woods without trace, combined with the failure of the K9s to pick up his scent at his last known location, and the many searchers; both volunteer and professional, without success for over two days. Imo this indicates a wildlife predator attack.

I am very concerned about a wildlife/predator attack on Noah. I had posted about coyotes, but coyotes usually leave residue/evidence of their attacks. I've seen mountain lions on two occasions while hunting in GA. My primary concern is a cougar/mountain lion attack. The DNR quietly introduced them into the TN/NC/GA forests over 10 years ago. Their profile of stalking/hunting/capture their prey seems to fit. The scent of a cougar may also affect a K9's tracking performance, imo.

Funny how some think he is far far away, and some here think he is close. Me? I have no idea, it could be close, far, closer than far, farther than close, somewhere in the middle...

Oh I wanted to say I looked up attempted abductions in the area last nighy, as usual found a heap of them, they were all on young girls and teens, none on small kids or males that I saw (not that all predators necessarily have a specific gender and age preference).

Game warden...

I am honestly concerned about wildlife. We are teeming with coyotes here in CO. Have there been any reported sightings / prior attacks? Here I follow a mountain lion sighting map, fwiw. Some of them have trackers.

Eta: Jinx, Foxfire, we just made virtually identical posts.

I cannot help but wonder if this will permanently fracture the relationship between mother and daughter - if in fact it was the maternal grandmother looking after the children - allbeit perhaps at a subconscious level. I don't know, if I were being brutally honest, if I could ever forgive someone - anyone- for letting that happen. I would hope that I could, but somehow I doubt it.

Here's praying that today is the day he is found. I am in Australia and have barely slept a wink worrying about Noah since Thursday . Truly heartbreaking on so many levels....

I wonder if walking in the woods was a normal activity for Grandma, Noah and his sister. If it is, I wonder if they had a routine route that they walked. It was just a thought

Do we have any expert SAR dog handlers here? I just don't get how the dogs can't track him. If dogs can 'sniff' in a body of water this makes no sense to me. Not passing the 'sniff test' here. IMO

Yes sarx was here earlier in the thread.

There have been many sightings of cougars/panthers in West TN:
https://www.uu.edu/forms/cougars/sightings.cfm
I cant find the link right now, but at Chickasaw State Park (which is 16 miles from Pinson) a hunter tracking a blood trail from a deer was treed by a panther a few years back.

Lots of small children on these lists, margarita25, and a few adults. Some of the adults were fighting off the cougar after attacking their child.

I was hoping we wouldn't have to go there. It has been said for so many years that there are no cougars, panthers, etc. in TN or the Carolinas that I was surprised to see your link. Apparently, now even the TN Wildlife Resources Commission is admitting to confirmed sightings in TN. https://www.tn.gov/twra/article/cougars-in-tennessee I wonder if SAR from somewhere out west who are trained in looking for cougar attacks could come in and look around the immediate area where Noah went missing? I would think that if that's what happened, it would have happened really close to where he went missing. The chances of him wandering very far AND getting scooped up by a cougar seem kind of slim to me. Of course, I'm no expert and just moo.
